The Looking Glass Dragon Karakuri can do more than fix armor or sharpen weapons-it can reshape you entirely. Whether you want to fine-tune your hunter’s features or craft a completely new identity, here’s how to use it to change your appearance in Wild Hearts.
Our Wild Hearts Looking Glass guide will explain when and how to unlock the Looking Glass Dragon Karakuri and how it works.
How to unlock the Looking Glass Dragon Karakuri in Wild Hearts
Obtain Kemono Orbs by defeating creatures in Wild Hearts, then access the Karakuri upgrade tree in the menu. Progress through nodes on the left side, roughly 18-20 tiers deep, until the Looking Glass Dragon Karakuri becomes available, often after the Deathstalker hunt at Fuyufusagi Fort. Place it using a Dragon Pit, approach, and hold the interact button-L2 on PlayStation, LT on Xbox, or E on PC-to access the character appearance editor.
As you slay monsters in Wild Hearts, you’ll continuously collect Kemono Orbs, and you’ll use those to upgrade your Karakuri in your menu. You’ll need to (generally) work your way down from the top, but a few nodes unlock as you encounter new Kemono to kill.

Roughly 20 nodes down on the left side, you’ll find the Looking Glass Dragon Karakuri. It’s going to take you a while to get down that far – we unlocked it around the same time we defeated the Deathstalker in Fuyufusagi Fort.
How to use the Looking Glass to change your appearance in Wild Hearts
Unlock the Looking Glass Dragon Karakuri in the upgrade tree using Kemono Orbs earned from Kemono hunts, typically after progressing through about 20 nodes or defeating the Deathstalker. Place it in Minato Village, then approach and select “Look Through” by holding the interact button-L2 on PlayStation, LT on Xbox, or E on PC. Choose “Change appearance” to access the full character creator and adjust features like face, hair, body, and name at no cost.
The Looking Glass Dragon Karakuri costs 50 earth to build. That’s a pretty tall order for most (all?) Dragon Pits. Instead, it’s much easier to just build it in the hub city of Minato. (You can build it literally anywhere in Minato, so build it someplace it’s convenient or easy to get to – like your Home.)

When you approach the Looking Glass Dragon Karakuri, you’ll get a prompt to Look Through. Doing that will give you the option to change your name or appearance, both for free. Changing your appearance is the same as when you set it up originally, so you can change anything about your hunter that you’d like.
How to unlock Looking Glass Karakuri fastest way
The fastest way to unlock the Looking Glass Karakuri in Wild Hearts is by grinding Kemono Orbs through early hunts to progress the Karakuri upgrade tree after reaching Minato.
Reach Minato First
Complete the initial main story hunts against Ragetail, Sapscourge, and Wildtusk in sequence.โ
This unlocks Minato, where you access the full Karakuri upgrade tree via the menu (same as the map).
Grind the Tree
Use collected Kemono Orbs to unlock nodes downward from the top, aiming for the Looking Glass about 18-20 nodes deep on the left side.
Story progression auto-unlocks some nodes (marked with ?), speeding access; focus orbs on paths like Enhanced Flying Vine or Roller.โ
Quick Alternative
If you’re already in Chapter 2 (Ancient Technology), defeat the Deathstalker Kemono to instantly unlock the path to Looking Glass.โ
Once unlocked, craft it in Minato using 50 Earth (from Dragon Pits).โ
What Kemono Orbs are best to prioritize in the Karakuri tree
Kemono Orbs power all Karakuri tree upgrades, so prioritize hunts that yield high rewards quickly without frequent deaths, as each cart reduces orbs by a third.โ
Best Early Farms
Hunt Mighty King Wildtusk repeatedly-its recondite quest (unlocked after first clear) enrages it but lowers health for faster kills around 1 minute each, netting 1020 orbs per run plus gold from seeds.โ
Earthbreaker offers an easy 780 orbs early post-story unlock, ideal for low-effort grinding despite longer times.โ
Prioritize Tree Paths
Focus orbs on combat utilities first: Enhanced Flying Vine, Roller, and Crates for mobility/damage; max healing water capacity next.โโ
Save for Looking Glass (left branch, ~18-20 nodes) after essentials; story progress auto-unlocks some paths.โ
