Mega Lopunny in Pokémon GO weaknesses raid counters moveset evolution CP

Guides

Mega Lopunny strikes fast and hits hard, but the right counters can turn this fierce fighter into an easy win. Here’s how to exploit its weaknesses and build the best moveset to keep it down for the count.

This page explains Mega Lopunny weaknesses, counters, and – when caught and evolved yourself – the best Mega Lopunny moveset.

Mega Lopunny weakness

Mega Lopunny is a Normal- and Fighting-type Pokémon, which makes it weak to Fighting, Flying, Psychic, and Fairy moves. Trainers can take advantage of these weaknesses by using strong attackers like Mewtwo with Psychic moves, Togekiss with Fairy attacks, or Rayquaza and Moltres with Flying-type moves. Avoid using Dark-, Rock-, or Bug-type Pokémon, as many of Mega Lopunny’s charge moves hit them hard, reducing their battle durability.

Mega Lopunny is a normal- and fighting-type, meaning it is weak to fighting-, flying-, psychic- and fairy-types.

This gives us plenty to room to play with – and is especially useful for newer players with fewer strong Pokémon at their disposal.

Mega Lopunny counters

Mega Lopunny is weak to Fighting, Flying, Psychic, and Fairy-type moves, making Pokémon like Mewtwo, Machamp, Conkeldurr, and Togekiss strong choices against it. Shadow Pokémon with these attack types can deal high damage, while bulky options such as Metagross and Gardevoir can withstand its counterattacks. Focus on using fast-charging moves and tapping into type advantages to take it down quickly, especially during its powerful Normal- and Fighting-type strikes.

Taking into account the above, we recommend the following Mega Lopunny counters:

  • Mewtwo with Confusion and Psystrike
  • Alakazam with Psycho Cut and Psychic (Mega Evolution available)
  • Latios or Latias with Zen Headbutt and Psychic (Mega Evolution available)
  • Terrakion with Double Kick and Sacred Sword

As noted above, if you have a Mega Evolution available, they come highly recommended – but remember you can only have one active per battle.

In short, psychic- and fighting-types are best with their higher damage output in the meta. Of course, these are just our top recommendations; moves which align with any of the above weaknesses can put you at an advantage.

Additionally, know that weather boosts can strengthen moves further. In the case of the weaknesses you’d want to exploit, cloudy weather will boost fighting- and fairy-type moves, while windy will help improve your flying- and psychic-type damage output.

Obviously, you can’t control the weather, but if you think the battle will be a close call, based on your outdoor conditions it might be worth prioritizing some types over others to help give you the edge.

Best moveset for Mega Lopunny

Mega Lopunny excels in Pokémon Go raids and gyms with Pound as the Fast Move paired with Hyper Beam as the Charged Move, maximizing Normal-type damage output at the top DPS and TDO rankings. Adding Focus Blast as a second Charged Move bolsters Fighting-type coverage against key targets. This setup outperforms alternatives like Double Kick or Low Kick combinations in most scenarios.

For raiding and gyms, opt for Pound and Hyper Beam, both of which lean on its normal-typing. If you can afford a second Charge move, then we recommend the fighting-type Focus Blast.

Outside of special events, Mega Evolutions cannot be used in Go Battle League/PvP – so there’s no need to factor this into your decision making.

Is Shiny Mega Lopunny available?

Shiny Mega Lopunny does not exist in Pokémon Go. Mega Evolutions for Lopunny remain unavailable, with no raids, research, or events featuring this form as of now. Players can only access regular Mega Lopunny through Mega Energy obtained via Mega Raids against other Normal-types or specific encounters. Check the latest game updates for potential future additions.

Though you cannot catch a Mega Evolution version after a raid battle – it’ll always be a regular Lopunny, which you can then evolve when you have enough Mega Energy – know that Lopunny can be shiny at the end of these encounters.

How to get Mega Lopunny energy in raids

Mega Lopunny energy is obtained primarily through defeating Mega Lopunny in Mega Raids, where rewards scale with raid completion speed-faster clears yield more energy (up to 100+ per raid). First-time Mega Evolution requires 200 energy, dropping to 40 for subsequent ones after unlocking it.

Other Methods

Walking a buddy Lopunny (post-initial Mega unlock) grants 5 energy per candy earned, ideal for farming extras. Occasional research tasks (e.g., “Power Up Pokémon 10 Times”) have rewarded 20 energy in the past, though availability rotates. Mega Raids remain the most reliable source during active rotations.

Tips

Team up with 3-5 players using top counters like Mega Rayquaza or Mewtwo for quick wins and max energy. Check gym eggs for tan-and-brown Mega Raid icons; past events include January 2025 and September 2025 rotations.

Best counters and teams for Mega Lopunny raids

Mega Lopunny raids in Pokémon Go require teams exploiting its Normal/Fighting weaknesses to Fighting, Flying, Psychic, and Fairy moves. Optimal teams prioritize high-DPS options like Megas and Shadows for 2-5 player clears, maximizing Mega Energy rewards.

Top Counters

These Pokémon deliver the highest damage output (TTW under 400s with ideal conditions). Rank by performance from recent guides:

Rank Pokémon Fast Move Charged Move Faints TTW (s)
Mega Rayquaza Air Slash Dragon Ascent
Shadow Mewtwo Psycho Cut Psystrike
Mega Lucario Force Palm Aura Sphere
Mega Alakazam Confusion Psychic
Mega Gardevoir Confusion Psychic
Mewtwo Psycho Cut Psystrike
Mega Latios Zen Headbutt Psychic
Rayquaza Air Slash Dragon Ascent

Psychic leads for speed, Flying for burst; power to level 40+ for duos.

Team Sizes

  • 2 players: Maxed top counters (e.g., two Mega Rayquaza).

  • 3 players: Standard high-level group with Party Power.

  • 4-5 players: Reliable for mid-level teams or slower clears. Faster wins yield more energy.
