Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion DMW Summons Locations and Complete Guide

Guides

Every summon in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion carries its own story, but finding each DMW summon isn’t straightforward. This guide pinpoints every location so you can expand Zack’s power set and turn the tide of battle with style.

Where to find DMW summons

DMW summons in Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion appear through specific missions and story events. Boss summons like Ifrit (Mission 8-1-1), Odin (Mission 8-1-6), Bahamut (Mission 8-1-4), Bahamut Fury (Mission 8-5-6), and Phoenix (Nibelheim water tower) require defeating them in combat. Mascot summons such as Chocobo (Mission 8-4-1), Cait Sith (Mission 8-4-3), Moogle (Mission 8-4-4), Cactuar (Mission 10-1-3 after M3-1-3), Tonberry (Mission 10-2-3 after M6-1-5), and Magic Pot (Mission 10-2-3 with Fira, Jump, Assault Rush, Gravity) unlock via side quests. Complete prerequisite missions from Yuffie or Tonberry lines to access these stages.

Ifrit location

You’ll unlock this one right away from M8-1-1. You will need to re-fight Ifrit to get the materia.

Bahamut location

You get the Bahamut materia from beating M8-1-4, after taking on Bahamut again.

Bahamut Fury location

You won’t get Bahamut Fury until you clear most of Yuffie’s missions, as this is the final reward for her little quest line. You’ll need to re-battle it in M8-5-6, but beware as it’s much stronger than it was when you first took it down.

Odin location

You can grab Odin materia from beating M8-1-6.

Phoenix location

Phoenix isn’t obtained via a mission. You’ll need to find it in Nibelhiem. As soon as you arrive, talk to the little boy in the main part of town. He’ll talk about the seven wonders of Nibelhiem, noting that the water in the town has gone all red. After talking to him, climb up the water tower in the middle of town to grab the Phoenix materia.

Important note: If you do not collect this before talking to Sephiroth in the basement of Shinra Manor, you will not be able to go back and grab it.

Where to find DMW chocobo mode companions

Where to find DMW chocobo mode companions

DMW chocobo mode companions appear as you progress through side quests and story moments, with several being tied to specific missions or locations you visit along the map. To maximize chances, regularly complete optional missions and revisit hubs like sector areas where you’ll trigger DMW summons during Chocobo Mode.

Shortly after starting the game, you’ll have a mission in Wutai, where you’ll run into a familiar face: Yuffie. After this, you’ll unlock a set of missions (M8-4 and M8-5) that will give you about half of these companions to unlock.

Chocobo location

The Chocobo is the first reward you’ll get for beating M8-4-1.

Cactuar location

You’ll unlock Cactuar after beating M10-1-3, but in order to unlock this chunk of missions you’ll have to find a bonus enemy in an earlier mission.

In M3-1-3, there’s a Cactuar enemy before you fight the Genesis clone. It’s visible from afar, so you don’t have to worry about seeking it out in a random encounter.

Tonberry location

Tonberry unlocks after you beat M10-2-3, but again, you’ll need to find and defeat a Tonberry in an earlier mission to unlock the M10-2 set.

The Tonberry can be seen hanging out in M6-1-5. Just like Cactuar, it’s visible from afar rather than a random encounter.

Cait Sith location

Cait Sith is another companion unlocked via Yuffie’s “From a Hot Treasure Hunter” missions, this time unlocked by completing M8-4-3.

Moogle location

You’ll get Moogle once you beat M8-4-4, another Yuffie treasure hunting mission.

Magic Pot location

In order to get Magic Pot, you need to encounter it randomly in mission 10-2-3. Magic Pot will appear as an enemy with tons of HP, but you just need to use the materia is demands to appease it. Once you do, it’ll skitter off and you’ll get Magic Pot added to the DMW.

Magic Pot will ask you to perform Fira, Gravity, Assault Rush, and Jump.

How to get mascot summons like Cactuar and Tonberry

Mascot summons like Cactuar and Tonberry are unlocked through specific mission chains, not from the main story alone.

Cactuar

  • First encounter:

    • In Mission M3-1-3 “Eliminate the Copies”, look around the area before the Genesis clone boss and find a lone Cactuar wandering on the map (it is a visible enemy, not a random encounter).

    • Defeat this Cactuar to unlock the M10-1 mission line.

  • Unlocking the summon:

    • Complete the M10-1 missions; the Cactuar DMW mascot summon is rewarded at the end of this line (M10-1-3).

Tonberry

  • First encounter:

    • In Mission M6-1-5 “Buried in the Caverns”, explore to the side of the main route and you’ll see a lone Tonberry standing in the area (again, a fixed on-map enemy, not random).

    • Defeat this Tonberry to unlock the M10-2 missions.

  • Unlocking the summon:

    • Clear the M10-2 series; the final mission M10-2-3 “Master Tonberry” rewards the Tonberry mascot DMW summon when you defeat the Master Tonberry boss.

If you tell me what chapter you’re on, I can suggest when you can first reasonably get each of them without overleveling or heavy grinding.

How to unlock and get Chocobo mascot summon

The Chocobo mascot summon is unlocked through Yuffie’s “Suspicious Mail” mission chain, specifically Mission M8-4-1. You don’t have to find a hidden enemy; you just need to clear that mission.

Step-by-step

  • Play the story until around Chapter 4, when you start receiving strange/suspicious emails from an unknown sender (Yuffie).

  • This unlocks the mission line in the 8-4 group (often titled along the lines of “Suspicious Mail” or “From a Hot Treasure Hunter”).

  • Select and complete Mission M8-4-1; your reward for clearing it is the Chocobo mascot DMW summon.

If you tell me what chapter you’re on, I can tell you exactly when the email and the 8-4-1 mission should appear in your Mission list.
