Dragon s Dogma 2 The Arisen s Shadow Quest Walkthrough Guide and Bermudo Bug Fix

Guides

Shadowed at every turn in the bustling city of Vernworth, you’re not just a hero but a target in Dragon’s Dogma 2’s gripping quest, “The Arisen’s Shadow.” As a mysterious figure relentlessly trails your steps, you must decide: confront and capture the pursuer or accept a bribe and let him slip away-each choice shaping your path forward in this immersive fantasy world.

How to start ’The Arisen’s Shadow’ quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2

To start “The Arisen’s Shadow” quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you need to be in the city of Vernworth after completing several of Captain Brant’s requests, typically including the three Monster Culling tasks. The quest will then automatically be added to your quest list. Once active, you must explore Vernworth until you notice a spy named Bermudo, dressed in brown with a hood, following you. This usually happens in the Merchant Quarter or nearby alleys. Your objective is to catch Bermudo using the Grab command, which triggers the next phase of the quest involving interrogation and decisions about his fate.

As you start sticking your nose into the affairs of the palace in Vernworth – by completing a couple of Captain Brant’s various quests – you’ll pick up a tail when you’re in town. We got it after completing “Monster Culling.”

After speaking to Brant and leaving the tavern, you’ll get the “The Arisen’s Shadow” quest with the objective to “contend with your pursuer.” Your pawns will probably comment on it, saying something like “I sense eyes upon us.”

Contend with your pursuer

To contend with your pursuer in “The Arisen’s Shadow” quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you need to find the hooded figure named Bermudo who is stalking you around Vernworth, particularly in the Merchant Quarter. Once you spot him, chase him until he reaches a dead-end, then use the Grab command (R2) to tackle and capture him. After capturing Bermudo, you can choose to either turn him in to Captain Brant for interrogation or let him go for a reward. Turning him in grants you a Battahl border pass and gold, while releasing him rewards you with more gold but no pass. This confrontation is key to progressing the quest and unlocking further story elements.

Your pursuer is a man named Bermudo. He’s wearing an all brown outfit and wearing a hood. Your first task is just spotting him. This isn’t actually that easy, especially in the busy city of Vernworth.

Your best bet is along one of the long side alleys or even just the main square. Walk in a straight line as far as you can, and then turn around quickly. Start sprinting back the way you came, and watch for someone running away from you.

Sprinting will let you catch up Bermudo pretty easily. You might even get him cornered, but he won’t interact with you and will only run away. To “contend” with him, you have grab him once you’re close.

Should you kill or release Bermudo in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

In Dragon’s Dogma 2’s quest “The Arisen’s Shadow,” when you catch Bermudo, you face a choice: accept his bribe and let him go for 5,000 gold, or refuse and fight him. Accepting the bribe ends the quest immediately with a higher gold reward, but Bermudo escapes and may continue spying. Refusing leads to a brief fight interrupted by Captain Brant, who then takes Bermudo into custody. After waiting a few days and reporting back to Brant, you receive a smaller gold reward and gain intel on Bermudo’s role as a Battahl agent, which can unlock further story elements. While both choices allow the story to progress, refusing the bribe is considered the “canon” choice for players wanting to do the right thing and uncover more plot details, though it requires careful handling to avoid accidentally killing Bermudo and breaking the quest.

Once you’ve grappled him, just hold him for a few seconds, and then you’ll start a conversation. You’ve got a choice to make at that point – either release him or kill him.

You can try to question him, but he’s pretty tight-lipped. Before you let him go, you can extort a bit of money from him, but you can’t get anything except gold. Asking for something different will make him attack you.

What secrets does confronting Bermudo reveal about the shadowy figure in Vernworth

Confronting Bermudo in Vernworth reveals that he is a spy working for Battahl, sent to track the Arisen’s movements. If you refuse his bribe and capture him, Captain Brant intervenes before a fatal fight ensues and later investigates Bermudo’s activities, confirming his role as an agent. This leads to receiving a pass granting entry into Battahl and furthers the storyline involving espionage and political intrigue. Accepting Bermudo’s bribe ends the quest quickly with gold but skips deeper story developments about his true allegiance and the ongoing investigation.

What does letting Bermudo go reveal about his true allegiance in Vernworth

Letting Bermudo go by accepting his gold offer reveals that he is indeed a spy from Battahl, but this choice ends the quest immediately with a reward of 5,000 gold and no further confrontation. Although the story progresses normally afterward, you miss the deeper investigation into his espionage activities. If you refuse his bribe and fight him, Captain Brant intervenes, apprehends Bermudo, and later confirms his role as a Battahl agent, leading to additional story developments including receiving a pass to enter Battahl. Letting him go essentially lets you avoid the conflict but confirms his true allegiance as a Battahl spy through the narrative context.
