Enshrouded Inventory Guide Increase Backpack Size and Slot Capacity

Guides

Struggling with a bursting backpack in Enshrouded? Unlocking bigger inventory space is your key to survival in this mist-shrouded world. Rescue the Hunter NPC, craft the essential Drying Rack, and create Backpack Extensions like the Small Backpack to dramatically expand your carry capacity-turning your chaotic hoard into a well-organized arsenal for adventure.

How to increase your inventory in Enshrouded

To increase your inventory in Enshrouded, you need to rescue the Hunter NPC from her Ancient Vault, which unlocks the ability to craft backpack expansions. After bringing the Hunter to your base, you can craft a Drying Rack and use it to produce Dried Fur by combining Salt and Animal Fur. With Dried Fur, Torn Cloth, and String, you can craft the Small Backpack, which adds an extra row of inventory slots, increasing your carry capacity by eight stacks. Further progression with the Hunter’s quests allows crafting larger backpacks, such as the Medium Backpack, which provides even more inventory space. This system is essential for managing the many materials and items you collect during your adventures in Enshrouded.

To expand the number of slots in your backpack in Enshrouded, you’ll need to craft a backpack extension, specifically a small backpack. Before you can do that, though, you’ll need to have access to the Hunter. We’ve detailed all the steps for the whole process below.

Where to find the Hunter in Enshrouded

You can find the Hunter in Enshrouded by heading to her Ancient Vault, located northeast of your initial base or directly west from the Springlands Ancient Spire fast travel point. To reach her, it’s best to clear the Springlands Ancient Spire first, which unlocks a waypoint for easier access. Once at the vault, you’ll face hostile bear-men and need to navigate electric orbs and use your grappling hook to reach the Hunter’s pod. After awakening her, you can summon the Hunter to your base, provided it has walls, a door, and a roof. The Hunter is essential for crafting fur-related items, special arrows, and backpack extensions that increase your inventory capacity.

Before you can craft a backpack expansion in Enshrouded, you’ll need to find and awaken the Hunter as part of the “Hunter Becomes The Hunted” quest.

You’ll find her in the aptly named Ancient Vault – Hunter a good way northeast of the Cinder Vault and east of the Ancient Spire – Springlands Fast Travel tower

Gather salt at the salt mine

To gather salt in Enshrouded, head to the Egerton Salt Mine located northwest of the Springlands Ancient Spire. The easiest way to reach it is by fast traveling to the Ancient Spire and gliding down toward the mine, landing on mountains along the way if needed. Inside the mine, which is covered in Shroud and inhabited by hostile creatures, look for salt crystals embedded in the walls. Use a pickaxe to mine these grayish cube-like salt deposits. Be cautious of the Shroud timer and enemies, and consider bringing Shroud flasks or upgrading your skills to extend your time there. Collect at least 10 salt to use for crafting dried fur, an essential ingredient for backpack expansions and other gear upgrades. Setting up a nearby Flame Altar can help with quick respawns and safer farming.

To make the backpack expansion, you’ll need dried fur, torn cloth, and string. Dried fur is going to take more work than the other two.

With the Hunter placed, you’ll get a new quest called “Salt Mine Location” that, brace yourself, shows you the location of a salt mine. Specifically, the Egerton Salt Mines west-northwest of the Ancient Spire – Springlands Fast Travel tower.

When you reach the mines, you’re looking for the large, gray-white, cube-shaped deposits on the rock walls.

Craft the small backpack

To craft the Small Backpack in Enshrouded and increase your inventory space, you first need to rescue the Hunter NPC and unlock her crafting recipes. After building a Drying Rack using Wood Logs and String, you can produce Dried Fur by placing Salt and Animal Fur on the rack. With materials including Torn Cloth, Dried Fur, and String, craft the Small Backpack through the Hunter’s crafting menu. Equipping this backpack adds an extra row of inventory slots, significantly expanding your carrying capacity and allowing you to manage more items during your adventures.

Speak to the Hunter and craft a drying rack (10 wood logs and 6 string). Drop 1 animal fur and 3 salt into it, and you’ll get 1 dried fur

Once you’ve made a few dried fur, you can make the small backpack (3 torn cloth, 4 dried fur, and 5 string) that increases your inventory by 8 slots when you equip it in the Character menu.

Equip the small backpack

To equip the small backpack in Enshrouded and increase your inventory space, you first need to rescue the Hunter NPC, who unlocks the crafting recipes for backpack upgrades. After placing the Hunter in a shelter at your base, complete her side quest to gather Salt from the Egerton Salt Mines. Use the Salt along with Animal Fur in a Drying Rack to produce Dried Fur, a key material for crafting the Small Backpack. The Small Backpack requires 3 Torn Cloth, 5 String, and 4 Dried Fur to craft. Once made, equip it in the Backpack Extension slot in your character menu to add an extra row of inventory slots, increasing your carry capacity by eight stacks. This upgrade is essential for managing the growing amount of loot and materials you collect during your adventures.

Once you craft the small backpack, you have to equip it before you can use the extra inventory slots. Head to the Character menu. The third slot down on the left is for your backpack extension. Open it and select your new small backpack.

What secret strategies can I use to maximize my Enshrouded inventory

To maximize your inventory in Enshrouded, use these secret strategies:

  • Equip found armor pieces even if you don’t use them. Armor slots provide extra storage, allowing you to carry more items without cluttering your backpack.

  • Rescue the Hunter NPC early to unlock the crafting of backpack expansions. Craft the Drying Rack and then the Small Backpack using Dried Fur, Torn Cloth, and String to add an extra row of inventory space.

  • Utilize the Bag Expansion slot by equipping crafted backpacks to dramatically increase your carry capacity.

  • Leverage chest mechanics by building large magic chests for organized storage and take advantage of chests that reset outside your Flame Altar radius to farm resources repeatedly.

  • Use fast travel via upgraded Flame Altars to quickly return to base, drop off loot, and resume exploring without inventory overload.

  • Manage your inventory efficiently by scrapping outdated gear for runes and upgrading your equipment to reduce the need to carry redundant items.

These tactics combined will help you carry more, organize better, and keep your adventures in Enshrouded flowing smoothly.

How can equipping armor pieces increase my inventory capacity in Enshrouded

Equipping armor pieces in Enshrouded increases your inventory capacity by utilizing the armor slots as additional storage space. Even if you don’t actively use the armor for protection, simply equipping found armor pieces allows you to carry extra gear without occupying your main backpack slots. This trick effectively expands your total carry capacity, helping you avoid discarding valuable items when your backpack is full.
