Fallout TV series trailer Walton Goggins as Ghoul character details and highlights

Guides

In the latest Fallout trailer, Walton Goggins steps into the irradiated wasteland as a mesmerizing Ghoul, offering fans their most captivating glimpse yet of this enigmatic character. Prepare to dive deeper into the post-apocalyptic world where every scar tells a story-and Goggins’ Ghoul might just be the most intriguing survivor we’ve seen.

The new Fallout trailer reveals that Goggins’ Ghoul was seemingly a happy family man before the nukes dropped, and a slick salesman that sold space in the vaults in which survivors took refuge. The Ghoul may also be an uneasy ally of sorts to Lucy, Ella Purnell’s happy-go-lucky Vault Dweller character who’s getting a harsh dose of reality on her journey across the wastelands of Los Angeles.

Lucy also gets some face time with Maximus (Aaron Moten), a young soldier in the Brotherhood of Steel, in the new Fallout trailer. Like Lucy, Maximus appears to have no shortage of optimism, but his is channeled toward the brotherhood’s mission to bring law and order to the wasteland. Thursday’s trailer also offers the first glimpse of characters Moldaver (Sarita Choudhury) and Ma June (Dale Dickey).

In a preview of the new Fallout trailer shown to press on Wednesday, Goggins said in video remarks that his Ghoul is akin to the poet Virgil in Dante’s Inferno. Goggins said his bounty hunter character serves as a “guide through this irradiated hellscape,” and is pragmatic, ruthless, and wields a wicked sense of humor. Before the war, when his character was named Cooper Howard, he was “a vastly different person” and serves as the “bridge between the worlds” of Fallout’s pre- and post-nuclear holocaust.

Fallout executive producer/director Jonathan Nolan said in a press conference on Wednesday that the tone of the TV series was the hardest thing to get right about the adaptation – right behind making the Brotherhood of Steel’s Power Armor suits look good in live-action. He said that the TV series, like the Fallout games, explores the end of the world with a sense of humor. “There’s a thread of optimism woven into the show,” Nolan said. Co-showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet agreed, calling Fallout a “fun post-apocalyptic story” that will explore the various factions of the retro sci-fi world.

What secrets does Walton Goggins’ Ghoul reveal in the latest Fallout trailer

Walton Goggins’ Ghoul in the latest Fallout trailer reveals a layered and haunting backstory: once Cooper Howard, a charismatic Vault-Tec spokesperson and possibly an actor who promoted the vaults as safe havens before the nuclear apocalypse, he is now a noseless, irradiated bounty hunter navigating the post-apocalyptic wasteland. The trailer contrasts his pre-war life-depicted as a devoted family man and slick salesman-with his grim existence centuries later as a ruthless but complex survivor, highlighting his loneliness and violent encounters in the ruins of Los Angeles. This dual timeline approach deepens the mystery of his transformation and hints at a profound connection to the Vault-Tec corporation and the broader Fallout universe, making him a pivotal figure whose humanity endures despite his ghastly appearance. The character’s unique CGI-enhanced look and Goggins’ portrayal emphasize the tragic irony of a man who once sold safety but was denied it himself when the bombs fell.

What is Walton Goggins’ Ghoul hiding about his past life before the bombs

Walton Goggins’ Ghoul, formerly Cooper Howard, is hiding a deeply painful past tied to betrayal and loss before the bombs fell. He was once a charismatic figure who sold spots in a Vault-Tec vault, likely believing he and his family would be safe from the nuclear apocalypse. However, Vault-Tec either lied or deceived him, resulting in a tragic separation from his daughter-either she was the only one to get into a vault or the vault itself was part of a twisted experiment that led to devastating consequences. This loss fuels his bitter, sometimes ruthless demeanor and his desire to see the world “burn,” as well as his drug use to numb the pain. Additionally, his past includes a life as a pre-war movie star and family man, which contrasts starkly with his current mutated, semi-undead bounty hunter existence. Much of his history remains shrouded in mystery, but his quest for answers about his family and the betrayal by Vault-Tec drives his journey in the wasteland.
