Fast Travel Guide for Dragon s Dogma 2 All Methods and Portcrystals

Guides

Tired of trekking endlessly across the sprawling lands of Vermund and Battahl in Dragon’s Dogma 2? Discover how to slash your travel time with the game’s unique fast travel system-whether by activating Portcrystals and using rare Ferrystones for instant teleportation or hopping on an oxcart for a scenic, if occasionally perilous, ride between towns. Master these methods to explore more efficiently and keep your adventures moving at a brisk pace.

Our Dragon’s Dogma 2 guide will show you how to fast travel via two distinct methods, and explain the benefits (and limitations) of both.

Fast travel locations in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Fast travel locations in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are centered around Portcrystals and Oxcart stations. There are only a few fixed Portcrystals available early in the game, such as those in Vernworth (just outside the Merchant Quarter) and Harve Village (by the coast west of Vernworth). These Portcrystals act as teleportation points but require the use of rare consumable items called Ferrystones to fast travel. Additionally, players can obtain portable Portcrystals to create their own fast travel points anywhere on the map. Oxcarts provide another method of fast travel between towns and settlements along fixed routes, operating only during daytime and requiring a small fee. After completing the main story, fast travel relies solely on Portcrystals, as Oxcarts become unavailable.

There are two ways to fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2: oxcarts and portcrystals. You can only fast travel between specific locations as well. The map above shows the fast travel locations available to you in Vermund, the first region you’ll explore.

How to fast travel between cities with oxcarts

To fast travel between cities with oxcarts in Dragon’s Dogma 2, head to an oxcart station marked by an ox head icon near major settlements. Oxcarts run on fixed routes between specific towns and only operate during the daytime, leaving at scheduled intervals. When you arrive at a station, if no oxcart is present, interact with the nearby bell to wait for one to arrive. Once the oxcart is there, talk to the driver to pay a small fee-usually between 100 and 300 gold-and then sit in the back of the cart to start your journey. You can choose to “doze off” to skip the travel animation, but be prepared for possible enemy attacks during the trip that you must fend off before continuing. While oxcarts are a cheap and convenient way to travel, they do not allow you to select your destination freely and are slower in in-game time compared to walking, but they save effort when revisiting known locations.

The most straightforward way to fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is to hop on an oxcart. The main benefit of fast traveling with an oxcart is that it’s cheap – 100 or 200 gold per ride.

Oxcarts are limited, though, in that they’ll only leave their stands in the morning – you’ll have to sit and wait at the stand if you get there at any other time of day. They’re also slow. You can doze off while sitting in one, but time still passes in the background. That’s really only a problem when you’ve got a time-sensitive quest, though.

The bigger problem with oxcarts is that there are only two of them in the starting region of Vermund, and they only travel to three towns – Melve, the capital of Vernworth, and the Checkpoint Rest Stop by Battahl. It’s still a good way to get across the kingdom relatively quickly, though.

Your oxcart also might (and, in our experience, will) get attacked by monsters. That’ll disrupt your ride, but you can hop right back on once the baddies are dealt with – assuming you don’t accidentally destroy the oxcart in the fray. If you do happen to destroy the oxcart, you’ll just have to finish your trip on foot.

How to fast travel to portcrystals with ferrystones

To fast travel to Portcrystals in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you first need to activate a Portcrystal by interacting with it in a settlement or location. Once activated, the Portcrystal becomes a fast travel destination marked on your map. To teleport to it, you must use a Ferrystone, a consumable item that is somewhat rare and can be found in treasure chests, earned as quest rewards, or purchased from certain vendors. Using a Ferrystone consumes it and instantly transports you to the selected Portcrystal, allowing fast travel from almost any outdoor location. Additionally, players can place up to ten portable Portcrystals themselves to create custom fast travel points.

The other method of fast travel is actually fast: teleporting with portcrystals. Teleportation is obviously faster than oxen, but it, too, is severely limited.

To use a portcrystal, you first have to find one and activate it. There are two in Vermund – one in Vernworth and one in Harve Village (as noted in the map at the top of this post). Once a portcrystal is activated, it becomes a fast travel destination – and that’s it. You can’t interact with them beyond activating them.

To travel to a portcrystal, you’ll need to use a ferrystone. These are pretty rare items that you’ll find in out-of-the-way treasure chests or receive as quest rewards. You can also buy them from some vendors for 10,000 gold.

You might also come across a portcrystal as an item – you’ll get one as a reward during the “A Trial of Archery” quest in Sacred Arbor, for example. These are reusable items that you can place and pick up as you need. They act as portable portcrystals, meaning you still need a ferrystone to reach them. For quests that require a ton of backtracking, like the series of nigh-inscrutable sphinx riddles, these portcrystals are some of the most valuable time-saving tools at your disposal.

You can have 10 of these non-fixed portcrystals active at a time, but they are also extremely rare. (Sensing a trend yet?) In our travels, we’ve found four portcrystal items from three quests, plus two additionally from exploration. For details on how to get more portcrystals, consult our guide on where to find portcrystals, in which we also tell you the best locations to place them in.

Want to learn how to create your own fast travel points in Dragon’s Dogma 2

To create your own fast travel points in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you need to obtain portable Portcrystals-small, blue-glowing crystals that you can place anywhere on the map to serve as custom fast travel locations. You can carry up to 10 of these portable Portcrystals, which can be picked up and moved at your discretion, allowing you to strategically position them near important NPCs or less accessible settlements without fixed Portcrystals. To fast travel to these points, you’ll use Ferrystones, which are consumed upon use and can be purchased or found throughout the world. Activating and placing your own Portcrystals lets you tailor your fast travel network to suit your exploration needs across the vast open world.

How do I obtain and place portable Portcrystals in Dragon’s Dogma 2

To obtain and place portable Portcrystals in Dragon’s Dogma 2, follow these steps:

  1. How to Obtain Portable Portcrystals:

    • Complete Captain Brant’s main questline, including the “Feast of Deception,” to get your first portable Portcrystal.

    • Finish the side quest “Gift of the Bow” given by Glyndwr near Roderick’s Smithy in Vernworth. Completing the subsequent “Trial of Archery” quest also rewards a portable Portcrystal.

    • Collect a portable Portcrystal from the Forested Griffin’s Nest in the south of the Misty Marshes.

    • Solve the Sphinx’s “Riddle of Madness” quest, which grants a portable Portcrystal upon completion.

    • Purchase a portable Portcrystal from the Dragonforged vendor during the “Flickering Shadows” quest for 20 Wyrmslife Crystals (WLC).

    • Optionally, you can buy one portable Portcrystal for real money ($2.99) if desired.

  2. How to Place Portable Portcrystals:

    • Once you have a portable Portcrystal in your inventory, select it and use it to place it at any open location on the map.

    • You can have up to 10 portable Portcrystals placed simultaneously.

    • These crystals can be picked up and moved to new locations as needed, allowing you to customize your fast travel network.

    • To fast travel to a placed Portcrystal, use a Ferrystone, which consumes the item upon use and requires being in an open space to activate properly.

This system lets you strategically set your own fast travel points across the vast world, making exploration and return trips much more efficient.
