Unlocking the new Facewear slot in Final Fantasy XIV lets you finally wear stylish glasses without sacrificing your headgear-whether you’re on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox. From converting your old Fashion Accessories at any Calamity Salvager to purchasing chic spectacles at the Gold Saucer, here’s how to add that perfect pair of glasses to your Warrior of Light’s look and elevate your glamour game in the Dawntrail expansion.
Below, we explain where to get facewear in FFXIVand how to equip facewear correctly.
How to unlock facewear in FFXIV
To unlock the Facewear slot in Final Fantasy XIV, you need to obtain at least one piece of Facewear, such as glasses or spectacles. If you owned any Fashion Accessory headgear before Patch 7.0, you can convert those items into Facewear by visiting a Calamity Salvager in Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, or Ul’dah and using the Spectacles Exchange option. Alternatively, you can purchase Facewear items at the Gold Saucer by exchanging Manderville Gold Saucer Points with the Prize Claim NPC. Once you have Facewear, the slot unlocks automatically, allowing you to equip and customize glasses and other facial accessories without sacrificing your headgear slot.
Facewear works like fashion accessories in that you obtain one-time use items to unlock them permanently.
If you already had some the fashion accessories that were glasses before the 7.0 update, you can convert them into these new accessories by doing the following:
- Go talk to a Calamity Salvager. Select the option “Spectacles Exchange.” This will convert any of your eligible fashion accessories into facewear automatically.
- Check which you got through the character > facewear menu.
You can find Calamity Salvagers in any of the three main towns: Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (11.4, 14.4), Old Gridania (10, 8.4), and Ul’dah – Steps of Thal (12.6, 13.1).

You can also get glasses via the Gold Saucer from the prize claim attendant (under the “Prize Exchange III” menu). The following glasses are for sale:
- Thick-rimmed Glasses (30,000 MGP)
- Contemporary Pince-nez (40,000 MGP)
- Rimless Glasses (70,000 MGP)
- Minstrel’s Spectacles (90,000 MGP)
- Oval Spectacles (100,000 MGP)
You can also get a few more glasses via the Brugaire Consortium NPCs, a.k.a the NPCs you can re-buy race-specific armor from. They’re Bango Zango in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (9.9, 11.4), Maisenta in New Gridania (11.5, 11.2), and Roarich Ul’dah, Steps of Nald (10.6, 9.5). They sell the following:
- Simple Spectacles (3,000 gil)
- Monocles (3,000 gil)
There are also Rose-colored Spectacles you can get from Trisassant in Old Sharlayan in exchange for three Rokkon Potsherds (the currency you get for doing Mount Rokkon).
There are some other glasses, too, like a set locked behind old PvP rewards (False Shaded Spectacles) and a set obtained via subaquative voyages (False Classic Spectacles). More glasses and facewear will likely come as rewards for future content, too.
How to equip facewear in FFXIV
To equip facewear in FFXIV, first ensure you have unlocked the Facewear slot by obtaining any facewear item, such as glasses or spectacles. Once unlocked, open the Character menu and locate the Facewear slot below the Feet slot, or access the Facewear menu directly. From there, select the facewear you want to equip, choose your preferred color, and click “Equip.” This allows you to wear glasses or other facewear on top of your regular headgear without restrictions, and the items will be visible in cutscenes and battles.
To set your facewear, simply open up your facewear menu through the character menu, select the color of the glasses you want to wear, and select “equip.” That’s all there is to it.
If you’re having a hard time doing this, make sure you’re not clicking the “style” of facewear and that you’re selecting from the “color” section below it.

Once you’re finished, you can update your gear set and the facewear you selected will save with it, allowing you to wear different glasses with different outfits. Nice!
Correction (June 28):A previous version of this guide stated that you trade in glasses equipment for facewear, but you can only trade in glasses fashion accessories for facewear. We’ve updated this guide to reflect this.
