Below, we explain where to find water chestnuts in Fields of Mistria, along with what else you can use them for.
Where to find water chestnuts in Fields of Mistria
Water Chestnuts in Fields of Mistria can be found primarily in The Narrows, a region west of the main town of Mistria. They grow as small green sprouts in the river, especially along the riverbanks south of the museum and near Errol’s Cabin. Players should head out of Mistria’s west exit into The Narrows, then proceed west and look for a wooden bridge near the water where these plants appear. Each Water Chestnut plant yields multiple chestnuts, and they respawn approximately every four in-game days. Collecting Water Chestnuts is essential for fulfilling quests from villagers like Juniper and Josephine, who require them for recipes such as Water Chestnut Fritters and Trail Mix. Additionally, Water Chestnuts can occasionally be purchased from the Balor merchant wagon, though this is less reliable than harvesting them in The Narrows.
You can find water chestnuts in set spawn locations in The Narrows, the map to the west of Mistria. There’s quite a few growing in the water directly south of the museum. They appear as small sprouts along the edge of the river, but once you interact with said sprouts, a bunch of water chestnuts will pop out, ripe for the taking. In our game, there were five spots along the river where the water chestnuts spawn and respawn.

Water chestnuts take about four in-game days to respawn, so we recommend holding on to a few of them before selling off or using the rest, just in case you need them during this respawn period.
You can also buy them sometimes from Balor’s merchant wagon for 25 Tesserae each, though his shop seems to rotate on a random basis, so this method of grabbing chestnuts isn’t really reliable.
What are water chestnuts used for?
Water chestnuts in Fields of Mistria serve multiple purposes. They can be collected to fulfill villager requests, such as Juniper’s quest where providing water chestnuts unlocks a recipe for water chestnut fritters. These fritters restore a significant amount of health when consumed. Additionally, water chestnuts are used in cooking recipes like trail mix, which restores both health and stamina and can be sold for profit. Beyond cooking, they can be eaten raw for a small health and stamina boost or transformed into superior animal feed once you have access to the mill. They also have value as gifts to strengthen relationships with certain characters in the game.
Outside of the initial quest where they’re requested, you can eat the water chestnuts for three HP and stamina each, but this isn’t really a great use for it. Once you unlock the mill, you can use water chestnuts to make better animal feed for your ranching needs. You can cook the chestnuts into water chestnut fritters, which restore 56 HP and stamina, as well as trailmix, which restores 12 HP and stamina. (There are other recipes, too.)
Where exactly in The Narrows can I find the most Water Chestnuts
The best place to find the most Water Chestnuts in Fields of Mistria is along the southern river in The Narrows, just west of the main town near Errol’s house. Here, the Water Chestnuts appear as green leaves or small shoots growing at the river’s edge. There are five distinct patches along the riverbanks-two on one side and three on the other-where these plants spawn regularly. Each plant yields three Water Chestnuts when harvested by approaching the riverbank or jumping into the water. These spots are the most reliable for collecting Water Chestnuts, which respawn approximately every four in-game days.
Which specific spots along the river in The Narrows have the most Water Chestnuts
The specific spots along the river in The Narrows with the most Water Chestnuts are on the far south side of The Narrows, just west of Mistria’s main town near Errol’s Cabin. Here, multiple bundles of Water Chestnuts spawn visibly along the riverbank, often appearing as clusters of three to five plants per harvest. These plants grow at the edge of the river, with some patches on one side and others on the opposite bank, making this area the richest and most reliable location for gathering Water Chestnuts in Fields of Mistria. The Water Chestnuts respawn regularly, allowing for repeated harvesting after a few in-game days.
