Looking to reel in a Catfish in Fields of Mistria? These elusive medium-sized fish lurk year-round in the tranquil ponds scattered across Mistria, with one of the best spots just north of town near the Manor House. Patience is key, as Catfish can be rare and tricky to catch, but the reward is worth it: crafting the coveted Breaded Catfish recipe and gaining favor with NPCs like Hemlock and Reina. Ready your fishing rod and head to the lily-pad dotted ponds-your next big catch awaits beneath the surface.

Where to find catfish in Fields of Mistria

Catfish in Fields of Mistria can be found year-round in the ponds scattered across the map. A particularly reliable spot is the pond located on the north side of town, just left of the entrance to the Manor House, where catfish tend to appear quickly. They are medium-sized fish, often identified by medium-sized shadows beneath the water’s surface, and can also be found in other ponds, especially those marked by lily pads. Fishing for catfish can be challenging due to their rarity and the need to distinguish their shadows from other fish, but persistence pays off. Once caught, catfish can be used in cooking recipes like Breaded Catfish or gifted to NPCs such as Hemlock to obtain special recipes.

You can find catfish in any ponds year-round. If you’re having a hard time discerning what is and isn’t a pond, look for lily pads floating in the water, which is a pretty good indicator. There are lots of ponds in the southern part of the Eastern Road map (the area east of town).

Catfish specifically come from medium-sized shadows in the water, which admittedly can be hard to tell apart from the large shadows, unless there’s a large one nearby to directly compare it to. Just keep at it, casting your line at these medium-sized shadows until you nab a catfish. If you’re not seeing any medium-sized shadows, you can leave the map and come back to refresh the fish spawns.

Being honest, fishing in the ponds can be pretty tough, since even with the maxed out fishing rod (the silver fishing rod, as of writing this), there will often be times where the fish will swim around too far for your rod to cast to. You’ll just need to be patient when this happens.

What are catfish used for?

Catfish in Fields of Mistria are primarily used for cooking and trading. Early in the game, players receive a quest to catch a catfish in exchange for a recipe to prepare breaded catfish, a dish that restores 64 HP and stamina. This dish is also favored by the character Reina, helping to improve your relationship with her. Additionally, catfish can be sold for a profit, making them valuable both for sustenance and economic gain within the game.

Outside of the initial quest where they’re requested, you can use catfish to cook breaded catfish. When cooked with flour and oil, it’ll make an item that heals 64 HP and stamina, which isn’t too bad. Reina loves breaded catfish, so you can use this item to raise your relationship with her. Otherwise, you can sell the fish for 80 Tesserae each.
