Find the Flamebreaker Armor Set in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Guide

Guides

The searing heat of Death Mountain can burn through your health in seconds, but the Flamebreaker Armor turns that inferno into a manageable trek. Here’s how to find each piece of this fireproof gear and make the most of its powerful flame guard perk.

Flamebreaker Armor location

The Flamebreaker Armor can be purchased in Goron City, found in the Eldin region north of Hyrule. The city lies near the base of Death Mountain, where high temperatures make heat protection necessary. The Flamebreaker Armor set is sold at the Goron City Armor Shop, with the chest piece available first and the rest of the set appearing after progressing through regional quests. Wearing the full set grants the Flame Guard perk, allowing Link to explore volcanic areas without taking fire damage.

The most straightforward way to find all three pieces of the Flamebreaker Armor set – the Flamebreaker Helm, Flamebreaker Armor (chest piece), and the Flamebreaker Boots – in Goron City.

Goron City is in the northeast part of Hyrule, close to Death Mountain. The armor store has the coordinates (-1640, 2410, 0384). The full set of Flamebreaker Armor is available here. However, it is quite expensive. To wit:

  • The Flamebreaker Helm costs 1,400 rupees.
  • The Flamebreaker Armor costs 700 rupees.
  • The Flamebreaker Boots cost 1,200 rupees.

Each piece grants the flame guard perk and comes with a base stat of 3 defense.

How else can you get the Flamebreaker Armor?

You can also get individual pieces of the Flamebreaker Armor from shops in Goron City. The Flamebreaker Armor chest piece is sold at the Armor Shop there, while the Flamebreaker Boots and Helmet can be bought separately as you progress and earn more rupees. Players may also find discounted armor in Goron City after completing certain quests or by trading materials with merchants. Each piece gives fire resistance, and wearing the full set grants the Flame Guard effect that protects you from extreme heat.

Although it’s available with the rest of the set in Goron City, there are actually multiple ways to get the Flamebreaker Armor chest piece. This is worthwhile, because as well as being the cheapest option, combined with other heat resistant effects, for example from food, it will still enable you to explore some of the hottest areas of the map. For example, you can complete the Fire Temple with only the chest piece.

The chest piece can also be found at YunoboCo HQ, just north of Goron City at the coordinates (1604, 2827, 0424). The price is also 700 rupees.

Flamebreaker Armor upgrade costs, set bonus, and effect

Flamebreaker Armor upgrades at Great Fairy fountains raise defense from a base of 3 to 20 at four stars per piece, requiring escalating materials like 3 Moblin Horns and 10 rupees for one star, 5 Moblin Fangs, 5 Fireproof Lizards, and 50 rupees for two stars, then 5 Blue Moblin Horns, 15 Flint, and 200 rupees for three stars, and finally 5 Black Moblin Horns, 30 Flint, 5 Smotherwing Butterflies, and 500 rupees for four stars. Full set upgrades across all three pieces demand 2280 rupees, 9 Moblin Horns, 15 Moblin Fangs, 15 Fireproof Lizards, 15 Blue Moblin Horns, 135 Flint, 15 Black Moblin Horns, and 24 Smotherwing Butterflies. The set bonus activates at two stars for Fireproof, granting full protection against fire damage and heat.

As mentioned above, you get a stack of flame guard per piece of armor you wear, which prevents you from succumbing to scorching fiery heat (but not the regular sunny heat that you experience in the Gerudo Desert). Upgrading all the pieces to two-star or higher and equipping the full set makes you fully fireproof, which is great when fighting fiery enemies.

You’ll be able to upgrade the pieces of the Flamebreaker Armor at a Great Fairy Fountain, in exchange for the following materials:

  • 1-star (5 defense): 3 Moblin horns, 10 rupees
  • 2-star (8 defense): 5 Moblin fangs, 5 fireproof lizards, 50 rupees
  • 3-star (12 defense): 5 Blue Moblin horns, 3 smotherwing butterflies, 15 flint, 200 rupees
  • 4-star (20 defense): 5 Black Moblin horns, 5 smotherwing butterflies, 30 flint, 500 rupees

To upgrade the set fully, you’ll need 9 Moblin horns, 15 Moblin fangs, 15 Blue Moblin horns, 15 Black Moblin horns, 15 fireproof lizards, 24 smotherwing butterflies, 135 flint, and 2,280 rupees.

Where is Goron City located on the Tears of the Kingdom map

Goron City is in the Eldin region, on the western slope of Death Mountain, north-northeast of Central Hyrule and roughly north of the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower on the map.

Exact map position

  • If you look at the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower, Goron City appears a short distance directly north of it as a cluster of buildings with a bridge-like structure through the middle.

How to locate it while exploring

  • From Lookout Landing, head northeast toward Death Mountain, pass Woodland Stable, then follow the road and signs leading up into Eldin until you reach Goron City on the mountain path.

  • Once you activate Marakuguc Shrine near town, its icon becomes the easiest fast-travel reference for Goron City’s location on your map.

How to fast travel to Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower

You cannot fast travel directly to the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower until you have both unlocked fast travel in general and activated that specific tower.

  • Reach Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower at least once and activate it by interacting with its terminal so it becomes a warp point.

How to fast travel there

  • Open your map with the – button, move the cursor over the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower icon (in the Eldin region, east/northeast of Hyrule Castle), and select it with A.

  • Choose “Travel” on the prompt; Link will then warp directly to the top of the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower, letting you paraglide toward nearby locations like Death Mountain or Goron City.
