Death is only the beginning in Elden Ring: Nightreign-especially if you seek to command it. Unlocking the Revenant, the game’s elusive necromancer class, is a quest shrouded in secrets and spectral challenges. Before you can wield her ghostly powers and summon the fallen as your allies, you’ll need to outsmart the labyrinthine Roundtable Hold, secure a mysterious relic, and survive a one-on-one duel against a phantom who refuses to rest. Are you ready to turn the tide of battle with the dead at your command?
While you can pick other characters to fulfill a supportive role, like Guardian or Raider, Revenant is the only one who feels specifically designed to help their party during an expedition. Despite the fact that her whole deal is all about death and reanimation, Revenant brings an airy and mystical vibe. Revenant is one of the more complex classes in Elden Ring Nightreign. It’s worth adding her to your play roster as soon as you can, since your parties can’t entirely consist of damage-dealers.
Below, here’s how to unlock the Revenant class in Elden Ring Nightreign.
When you can unlock the Revenant in Elden Ring Nightreign
To unlock the Revenant in Elden Ring Nightreign, you first need to unlock the Duchess by defeating the Night Lord Gladius in the Tricephalos Expedition and giving the Old Pocketwatch dropped by him to the Priestess in Roundtable Hold. After unlocking the Duchess, visit the Small Jar Bazaar in Roundtable Hold to purchase the Besmirched Frame relic for 1,500 Murk. With the Besmirched Frame in your inventory, go to the eastern wing of Roundtable Hold and interact with the Revenant phantom near a portrait. Choosing to “Touch Phantom” will teleport you to a special arena where you must defeat the Revenant’s spectral form, the Night Idol, in a boss fight. Upon victory, the Revenant becomes a playable character.
You can unlock the Revenant after you’ve already unlocked the other unlockable character, the Duchess. Once you’ve unlocked Duchess, you’ll be able to get the Besmirched Frame relic, beginning the steps that’ll add the Revenant to your lineup of playable Nightfarers.

How to unlock the Revenant in Elden Ring Nightreign
To unlock the Revenant in Elden Ring: Nightreign, you first need to unlock the Duchess by obtaining the Old Pocketwatch, which is acquired after completing or attempting the Tricephalos Expedition and then giving it to the Priestess. Once the Duchess is unlocked, visit the Small Jar Bazaar in Roundtable Hold to purchase the Besmirched Frame for 1,500 Murk, a currency earned during Expeditions. With the Besmirched Frame in your inventory, head to the eastern wing of Roundtable Hold and interact with the Revenant phantom near a character statue. Choosing to “Touch Phantom” teleports you to a special arena where you must defeat the Revenant’s spectral form, known as the Night Idol, in a challenging boss fight. Upon victory, the Revenant becomes a playable character.
Before you can unlock the Revenant, you’ll first need to unlock the Duchess. Once you’ve done so, you’ll be able to purchase the Besmirched Frame for 1,500 Murk from the Small Jar Bazaar in the west wing of the Roundtable Hold. (You can also fast travel to the Bazaar through the map menu.)
After purchasing the Besmirched Frame, the phantom of a young woman will appear in the east wing of Roundtable Hold. Interacting with this phantom transports you back to the tutorial area, where you must fight the Night Idol boss fight (it’s Revenant alongside her three spectral summons) with the current character you have selected. Defeating this challenging fight unlocks the Revenant permanently for your future expeditions.
How to beat the Night Idol
Defeating the Night Idol is no easy task, because it’s a four-against-one fight. The best strategy is to fight each phantom one by one, keeping distance between you and the Night Idol so that her long-range spell (Triple Rings of Light) doesn’t kill you.
Pull the smallest spirit, Helen the Page, first and dispatch her. Then move on to Frederick the Pumpkin Head, while maintaining a safe distance from Night Idol. Finally, take down Sebastian the Giant Skeleton. From there, go all in on Night Idol, either attacking her from range with arrows, magic, or throwing pots; or keeping the pressure on her up close.
Revenant class details in Elden Ring Nightreign
The Revenant class in Elden Ring Nightreign is a unique summoner Nightfarer who specializes in necromancy, raising enemy ghosts and summoning fallen family members to fight alongside
The Revenant is a support character who focuses on providing utility to her team by summoning spirits to help overwhelm enemies. Here’s a brief overview of her perks:
- Her passive ability, Necromancy, allows her to raise slain enemies to fight with you as allies periodically. This happens automatically and requires no input from the player.
- Her Summon Spirit character skill allows her to summon one of three spirits dedicated to her specifically to help in combat. There is a fast, dextrous spirit, an average strength-based spirit, and a slow spellcaster, all with their pros and cons in combat.
- Finally, her ultimate art, Immortal March, enables her to release a burst of energy, making her and her allies temporarily immortal. You can also use this to revive downed teammates instantly.
What secret steps lead to unlocking the Revenant in Elden Ring Nightreign
Secret Steps to Unlock the Revenant in Elden Ring Nightreign
Unlocking the Revenant requires a series of hidden steps:
-
First, you must unlock the Duchess class. To do this, complete a run and obtain the Old Pocketwatch relic-usually after defeating Gladius, Beast of Night, or as a random expedition reward. Bring this relic to the hooded figure (the Priestess) at the Roundtable Hold to unlock the Duchess.
-
Once the Duchess is unlocked, head to the Small Jar Bazaar in the west wing of the Roundtable Hold. Purchase the Besmirched Frame relic from the merchant for 1,500 Murk.
-
After acquiring the Besmirched Frame, seek out the Revenant’s spirit near the entrance to the east wing of the Roundtable Hold. Interact with her phantom-this will teleport you to a special arena.
-
In the arena, you must defeat the Revenant and her three spirit allies in a challenging boss battle. The recommended strategy is to eliminate her summoned spirits (the sword fighter, giant skeleton, and pumpkin head) before focusing on the Revenant herself, who uses dangerous ranged attacks.
-
Once victorious, the Revenant becomes a playable class, available at the character selection altar.
These steps are intentionally hidden to reward exploration and persistence, making the Revenant one of the most secretive unlocks in Nightreign.
What hidden tricks can help me defeat the Revenant’s ghostly allies more easily
Hidden Tricks for Defeating the Revenant’s Ghostly Allies
-
Isolate and Bait Aggressive Spirits: The Page (rapier-wielding spirit) is the most aggressive and will dash toward you. Lure it away from the group to fight it one-on-one, reducing the risk of being overwhelmed.
-
Manage the Pumpkin Head: The Pumpkin Head advances slowly. Keep it in your view while dealing with the Page to avoid being ambushed. After defeating the Page, focus on the Pumpkin Head next.
-
Handle the Giant Skeleton Wisely: The giant skeleton stays at the back and only attacks if you approach. Leave it alone until the other spirits are defeated, but be aware: once it’s the last spirit standing, it will enrage and start charging beam attacks. Decide whether to deal with it early (while dodging other threats) or save it for last and be ready to dodge its beams.
-
Use Ranged Attacks and the Ironeye Class: Using a ranged class like Ironeye, who has unlimited ammo, allows you to safely pick off spirits from afar, especially the stationary skeleton. This reduces risk and keeps you out of range of most attacks.
-
Exploit Summon Distraction: Summoning your own spirits or using distractions can help split up the enemy phantoms, making them easier to handle one at a time.
-
Watch for Revenant’s Positioning: The Revenant herself often hangs back or circles the arena. Keep her in sight to avoid surprise attacks, especially her Rings of Light incantation, which can deal heavy damage both at range and up close.
-
Prioritize Survival: Take your time, use the arena’s space to separate enemies, and avoid getting surrounded. Practice dodging and use your strongest skills or spells to quickly eliminate each spirit.
By using these tricks, you can systematically dismantle the Revenant’s ghostly allies and make the boss fight much more manageable.
