Wild gold PokéStops are glinting across Pokémon Go, and with a Coin Bag in hand, trainers can finally lure the elusive Gimmighoul and gather the coins needed to evolve it into the shimmering Gholdengo.
Gimmighoul works similarly to Meltan; you’ll need to connect your Pokémon Go to your Nintendo Switch, exchange some items, and then use the Coin Bag (which works like an Incense) to attract the Roaming Form Gimmighoul.
It can also involve gold/yellow PokeStops, which may also appear as part of events.
Here’s how to get Gimmighoul and Gimmighoul Coins in Pokémon Go using various methods.
What are gold/yellow PokéStops in Pokémon Go?
Gold or yellow PokéStops in Pokémon Go appear after a Golden Lure Module is used or during special events. These PokéStops shimmer with golden particles and can drop Gimmighoul Coins instead of standard items. Spinning them may also spawn a Roaming Form Gimmighoul nearby, giving players a chance to collect coins needed to evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo. They look similar to regular PokéStops but with a bright golden glow that makes them easy to spot on the map.
Gold and yellow PokéStops appear in Pokémon Go for one of three reasons:
- Through the use of a Golden Lure
- As part of special events, including the A Paldean Adventure/Ultra Unlock: Paldea events until Friday, Sept. 15, 2023
- As part of in-person events, such as Go Fest
Golden Lures turn the PokéStop gold/yellow. Spinning these stops gives you Gimmighoul Coins and you may find a Roaming Form Gimmighoul, if you’re lucky.

How to get Gimmighoul using the Coin Bag in Pokémon Go
To get Gimmighoul using the Coin Bag, connect your Pokémon Go account to Pokémon Scarlet or Violet through Pokémon HOME and send a postcard to those games. This gives you the Coin Bag as a reward in Pokémon Go. When you activate the Coin Bag, Gimmighoul appears around your avatar for a limited time, similar to other special lures. You can repeat this process daily to gather enough Gimmighoul Coins, which are later used to evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo.
The ability to catch Gimmighoul is a multi-step process, and requires connecting to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
How to connect Scarlet and Violet to Pokémon Go
Before you get your Coin Bag, you’ll need to connect your Pokémon Go account to your Scarlet and Violet game.
- Open the Poké Portal in Scarlet/Violet.
- Select “Mystery Gift” from the menu.
- Select “Connect to Pokémon Go” from that menu.
- Go to your settings in Pokémon Go and scroll all the way down, and tap “Nintendo Switch.”
- Select “Pair with a Pokémon Go account” in Scarlet/Violet.
- It should prompt you to connect with your Pokémon Go account, stating your account name. Choose to connect.

How to get a Coin Bag in Pokémon Go
- Make sure your accounts are connected as shown above.
- Open Mystery Gift through the Poké Portal in Scarlet/Violet and select “Connect to Pokémon Go” twice. (It’s an option on two menus.)
- Open your Postcard Book in Pokémon Go (below your trainer level your main profile page).
- Select a postcard and click the three-line menu. Select “Send to Nintendo Switch.”
- Wait for your Switch to receive the postcard as a Mystery Gift.
- After the postcard is sent, use the Coin Bag from your Pokémon Go inventory.
- Catch as many Gimmighoul as you can for 30 minutes.
How to get Gimmighoul in Pokémon Go without Scarlet and Violet
Players can catch Roaming Form Gimmighoul in Pokémon Go without connecting to Pokémon Scarlet or Violet. To do this, they need to spin golden PokéStops, which occasionally appear on the map and may drop Gimmighoul Coins. After collecting enough coins, using a Coin Bag will attract Gimmighoul to appear around the player for a limited time, allowing it to be caught directly in Pokémon Go without any link to the mainline games.
So far, the only way to get a Gimmighoul (without Scarlet/Violet) is to head to a PokéStop that was turned gold using aGolden Lure Module.
Lucky players will be able to find Gimmighoul at golden PokéStops, but note that it cannot be just a regular randomly created golden PokéStop; it needs the Golden Lure Module.
In future, it’s also possible that there will be a Special Research Task set that may reward a Gimmighoul or two, similarly to how they did it with Meltan.
How to evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo with Gimmighoul Coins
Catch 999 Gimmighoul Coins by spinning gold PokéStops with the golden aura or claiming them from roaming Gimmighoul encounters. Open your Item Bag and select the Coins to trigger the evolution animation, transforming Gimmighoul into Gholdengo instantly. Coins vanish after use, so collect them steadily from these special stops that appear randomly on the map. This method requires no extra items like Sinnoh Stones.
Gimmighoul does not use candy to evolve. You’ll need to find and collect999 Gimmighoul Coins, just like in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Catching a Gimmighoul can make it drop some coins, but you’ll primarily need to grab them from golden PokéStops.
Once you have the coins, you can just select to evolve the Gimmighoul into Gholdengo from the Pokémon’s summary screen. Finding 999 Coins will take you a while, so be patient.

How to get Golden Lure Modules in Pokémon Go
Golden Lure Modules can be obtained in a few specific ways. They are sometimes offered as rewards during special Pokémon Go events or research tasks, and players can also buy them from the in-game shop for PokéCoins. Another method is connecting your Pokémon Go account with Pokémon Scarlet or Violet on the Nintendo Switch to receive one as a bonus. Once used on a PokéStop, a Golden Lure attracts Gimmighoul and causes PokéStops to turn gold, letting you collect Gimmighoul Coins.
You get Golden Lure Modules for sending multiple Postcards to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. When you send your first postcard, you’ll get the Coin Bag, but for subsequent sends, you’ll get a Golden Lure Module.
You need to send a Postcard for five days to get a Golden Lure in Pokémon Go. You do not need to do this for five days in a row – just five days in total.
Note you can only have one Golden Lure Module in your inventory at a time, otherwise you’ll earn Gimmighoul Coins instead.
At the time of writing, there is no way to get Golden Lure Modules without Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Other tips for Gimmighoul and the Coin Bag in Pokémon Go
Check Coin Bags daily from roaming Gimmighoul encounters, as they offer the best shot at three coins for Gholdengo evolution. Spin gold PokéStops during events for bonus chances at rewards. Trade extra Gimmighoul with friends to build your collection faster. Pair shiny hunting with regular spins to maximize coin hauls without extra effort. Keep your bag inventory clear to grab more from spins.
- You cannot use the Coin Bag while you have other Incense items activated (including the Meltan Mystery Box).
- The Coin Bag can only be used once per day.
- Wandering Form Gimmighoul is only available in Pokémon Go. Once Pokémon Home support begins for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you’ll be able to transfer this version from Go to Scarlet and Violet.
- The Chest Form Gimmighoul is not available in Pokémon Go (yet).
- On the feature’s debut, the in-game shop gifted all players nine free Gimmighoul Coins for a limited time.
How to get Golden PokéStops in Pokémon GO
Golden PokéStops in Pokémon Go appear when a Golden Lure Module is activated on a regular PokéStop, turning it gold for 30 minutes and offering enhanced rewards like Gimmighoul Coins and occasional Roaming Form Gimmighoul spawns.
Obtaining Golden Lure Modules
Link your Pokémon Go account to Pokémon Scarlet or Violet on Nintendo Switch via Settings > Connected Devices.
Send postcards from your Postcard Book in Pokémon Go to the Switch game-after the first postcard (which gives a Coin Bag), send four more on different days (not necessarily consecutive) to earn one Golden Lure Module.
You can only hold one at a time; extras convert to Gimmighoul Coins.
Activating Golden PokéStops
Approach any PokéStop and apply the Golden Lure Module from your inventory (like a standard Lure).
Anyone nearby can benefit by spinning it for extra items, coins (typically 10-20+), and potential Gimmighoul encounters.
They also spawn during limited-time events like Pokémon Go Fest or anniversary celebrations, without needing a lure.
Tips for Efficiency
Place lures on high-traffic PokéStops for community sharing. Make a Gimmighoul your buddy to boost coin gains from spins. Events often increase golden PokéStop availability.
How to get Roaming Form Gimmighoul at Golden PokéStops
Roaming Form Gimmighoul can occasionally spawn at Golden PokéStops in Pokémon Go, but encounters are rare and luck-based rather than guaranteed.
Spawning Mechanics
Golden PokéStops, activated via Golden Lure Modules, primarily reward Gimmighoul Coins (10-20+ per spin) and extra items when spun.
Extremely fortunate players may trigger a Roaming Form Gimmighoul encounter directly from the spin, though this is uncommon outside events.
Event-specific Golden PokéStops (e.g., Go Fest, anniversaries) sometimes offer higher spawn chances but may limit to coins only during certain periods.
Maximizing Chances
Spin high-traffic Golden PokéStops frequently, especially those freshly activated, to increase odds over time.
Set a Roaming Form Gimmighoul (from Coin Bags) as your buddy beforehand-it boosts coin drops but not spawn rates directly.
Hunt during Gimmighoul-focused events, when golden stops proliferate and spawns improve.
