Hero Armor Set Location and Bonus in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Guides

Link’s classic green tunic is back, but tracking down the full Hero Armor set in Tears of the Kingdom is trickier than it looks. Here’s how to find each piece, boost its defense, and turn a nostalgic outfit into a powerhouse for your late-game adventures.

Like many armor sets in Tears of the Kingdom, the Hero Armor has a base attack of 3 defense per piece, which upgrades to a maximum of 20 (total 60 defense) and provides the incredibly handy Attack Up set bonus.

You can technically get the Hero Armor in Tears of the Kingdom via amiibo, but if you don’t have any figurines, you can also find it by scouring the Depths. Our Tears of the Kingdom Hero Armor guide will help you find all three pieces of the Hero armor set: the Cap of the Hero, Tunic of the Hero, and Trousers of the Hero.

The location of each of these pieces of armor can be found in Old Maps, found in chests across the Sky Islands above Hyrule. These are helpful if you’re playing the game without a guide, but no means essential if you just want to beeline it over to the armor. Here, we will provide the directions you need to get there without stopping to pick up the treasure map.

Cap of the Hero location

The Cap of the Hero can be found inside the Ancient Tree Stump Cave, located in Hyrule Field’s southwest area. Enter through the hollow trunk and use brightbloom seeds to light your way as you move deeper into the cave. You’ll encounter a few enemies and breakable walls hiding chests, so bring bombs or strong weapons. The cap is stored in a chest at the end of the cave, resting on a small platform above a pool of water.

The Cap of the Hero can be found in the Tuft Canyon Mine in the East Necluda Depths under Tuft Mountain and just east of Yambi Lake.

The nearest chasm is Meda Mountain Chasm, which you can access from Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower and the closest lightroot is Mimufis Lightroot.

Dropping down to the nearby Yikot Lightroot will require fire resistance, as there’s lava around the area.

If you’re struggling to locate it, the chest is opposite the large Zonai deposit, at (2518, -3602, -0626). Your fancy new hat comes with a base stat of 3 defense.

Tunic of the Hero location

The Tunic of the Hero is found inside the Ancient Tree Stump, located west of Hyrule Field and near the Outskirt Stable. Glide down into the hollow stump and search for a chest half-submerged in water at the bottom. Open it to obtain the Tunic of the Hero, which provides a solid defense bonus and serves as one part of the complete Hero Armor set.

The Tunic of the Hero can be found under the Dueling Peaks (north), in the Dueling Cayons Mine at (1285, -1811, -0784). However, the river that runs through the gorge is mirrored below as an impenetrable mountain. The nearest Chasm is the East Hill Chasm northeast of Kakariko Village. The closest lightroot is Sohse Lightroot.

Once you open the chest, you’ll get the Tunic of the Hero, which (probably) looks familiar and comes with 3 defense.

Trousers of the Hero location

The Trousers of the Hero are hidden inside the Ancient Tree Stump Cave in the Hyrule Field region. Enter through the large hollow tree southwest of Quarry Ruins, then glide down to the lower area with a pool of water. Use a Splash Fruit or a Water construct to clear the sludge covering the chest. Open it to obtain the Trousers of the Hero, a key piece of the classic green armor set.

Finally, we look for our trousers, which are hidden in the Corvash Canyon Mine (-3354, 2312, 0812). There are two ways to reach this – while the routes are largely straight-shot, neither are particularly close, as you’ll have to run a ton in the Depths to get to the mine. Unfortunately, the Hebra region has no proper chasm entrance, so make sure you activate lightroots so you can make an easy return for finding other loot in the area later on.

The nearest chasm is the Hyrule Ridge Chasm, west of Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower. Alternatively, there’s the Drenan Highlands Chasm, just west of the Typhlo Ruins Skyview Tower. The closest lightroot is Worihas Lightroot.

Congratulations on your dapper new (old) threads!

Hero Armor upgrade cost and set bonus

Upgrading the Hero Armor set increases its defense significantly, with each piece requiring specific materials such as Stars Fragments, and rare monster parts. The total cost in rupees and resources rises with each level, so farming materials in advance is wise. When all three pieces are worn together, the set grants a special bonus that enhances the Master Sword’s energy recharge rate, giving players a stronger advantage in combat situations.

With all three pieces of the Hero Armor equipped, you’ll now have the full set of base level (Level 0) Hero armor. Each has 3 defense (for a total of 9), but can be upgraded to 20 defense a piece (for a total of 60 defense). They cannot, however, be dyed (though that should not come as a surprise).

The upgrades list for this armor is relatively simple, as each stage requires the same items, just in differing quantities. The Hero Armor comes with the Attack Up set bonus, which is exactly what it sounds like.

  • To get to Level 1 and raise your defense by 2, you need 1 ruby and 1 Star Fragment per piece.
  • To get to Level 2 and raise your defense by another 3, you need 4 rubies and 1 Star Fragment per piece.
  • To get to Level 3 and raise your defense by a further 4, you need 6 rubies and 1 Star Fragment per piece.
  • To get to Level 4 (max) and raise your defense by 8, to the maximum 20 defense, you need 10 rubies and 1 Star Fragment per piece.
