Pokémon Go ’Slumbering Sands’ event Timed Research and rewards

During the Pokémon Go “Slumbering Sands” event, running from June 7 to June 12, 2024, players can participate in themed Timed Research that offers a variety of rewards. There are two main types of Timed Research: one free research track and a paid Timed Research ticket available for $2 USD (or local equivalent). Completing these tasks rewards players with encounters with special Pokémon like Komala and Slakoth wearing visors, along with XP, Stardust, Poké Balls, Berries, and avatar items such as the Komala Backpack. Additionally, there is a Pokémon Sleep-themed Timed Research that requires a Pokémon GO Plus+ device to track sleep, rewarding encounters with Nightcap Snorlax and Stardust. All Timed Research must be completed before the event ends on June 12 at 8 PM local time.

There are actually two Timed Research sets available. The one named after the event is a pretty standard research set, but you have to pay $1.99 for it. The second one is based around using the Pokémon Go Plus hardware to track your sleep. If you don’t have the Go Plus , you won’t be able to complete this research.

Is the “Slumbering Sands” paid research ticket worth it? While the value is worth it, we’d only recommend spending money on this if you really want the Komala backpack cosmetic.

The boosted spawns make it easier for players to catch these Pokémon and complete event challenges and research tasks, enhancing the overall gameplay experience during the event period.

How can I maximize my shiny Pokémon chances during Slumbering Sands

To maximize your chances of catching shiny Pokémon during the Slumbering Sands event in Pokémon Go, focus primarily on completing Field Research tasks rather than relying solely on wild spawns. Shiny rates for Komala and costume Slakoth are significantly boosted in Field Research encounters-about 1 in 64-compared to the standard 1 in 512 rate in the wild. Key research tasks include “Make three great throws” for a guaranteed Komala encounter and “Take snapshots of three different wild Pokémon” for a guaranteed costume Slakoth encounter, both of which are easy to obtain from PokéStops. Additionally, if you have a Pokémon Go Plus+ device, connecting it during the event grants access to exclusive Timed Research with extra encounters, though these may not have boosted shiny rates. Prioritize grinding these research tasks and use the 2× catch XP bonus to efficiently increase your encounters and chances of finding shiny variants.

What specific research tasks boost shiny rates for Komala and Slakoth

The specific Field Research tasks that boost shiny rates for Komala and Slakoth (wearing a visor) during the Slumbering Sands event are:

  • Make 3 Great Throws – rewards a guaranteed Komala encounter with an increased shiny rate.

  • Take snapshots of 3 different wild Pokémon – rewards a guaranteed visor Slakoth encounter with an increased shiny rate.

  • Spin 10 PokéStops or Gyms – can reward either Komala or visor Slakoth, both with boosted shiny chances.

These tasks are easy to find from PokéStops and offer about a 1 in 64 shiny rate, significantly higher than the 1 in 512 rate in the wild.
