Guides

Steel yourself, Trainers-Pokémon Go’s “Steeled Resolve” event is here, unleashing the debut of Rookidee and its mighty evolution Corviknight, while PvP-focused bonuses, exclusive research, and Steel-type spawns promise to test your mettle like never before. Will you rise to the challenge and claim your place among the steeliest of Trainers?

Below, we list all the event information for Pokémon Go’s “Steeled Resolve” event, including the two types of Timed Research, boosted spawns, egg hatches, and more.

Pokémon Go ’Steeled Resolve’ event Timed Research and reward

The ’Steeled Resolve’ event in Pokémon Go features both free and paid Timed Research, each offering unique tasks and rewards tailored to different playstyles. The free Timed Research is split into three steps and, after the first step, branches into two paths: Train with Blanche or Train with Cliff. Players choosing Blanche will earn rewards like Marill and Steelix, both strong picks for PvP, while those who select Cliff can encounter shadow Machop and Marowak, appealing to those focused on PvE or shadow Pokémon. Tasks include catching Pokémon, spinning PokéStops, using super-effective charged attacks, and battling in the GO Battle League, with rewards such as Ultra Balls, TMs, Stardust, Silver Pinap Berries, and exclusive Pokémon encounters.

Additionally, a paid Timed Research is available for $5, featuring a single step with tasks like powering up Pokémon, winning raids, and battling in the GO Battle League. Completing these grants encounters with Pokémon such as Rookidee, Diggersby, Inkay, Pancham, Clodsire, Jumpluff, Azumarill, and Galarian Weezing, plus a 2× Hatch Stardust bonus for ticket holders. All Timed Research tasks and rewards must be claimed before the event ends on January 26, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time.

There are two Timed Researches with the same name, though one is free and one is paid. We’ve separated them below.

’Steeled Resolve’ free Timed Research

After the first step of the free research, there’ll be a branched choice: Should you pick Blanche or Cliff?

If you’re basing this on PvE meta, you should pick Cliff. While the rewards are mostly the same, the encounter rewards are different. Cliff’s rewards include a shadow Machop, which you can then power up and evolve into a shadow Machamp – which is one of the best fighting-type Pokémon in the game.

If you’re basing this on PvP meta, you should pick Blanche. Blanche’s rewards give you a Marill (that you can evolve into an Azumarill) and a Steelix – both Pokémon that fair well in Great and Ultra Leagues. To be fair, Marowak and Machamp both also see use in PvP, but they lag behind Steelix and Azumarill, according to the numbers at PvPoke.

Step 1 of 3

  • Catch 15 Pokémon (5 Ultra Balls)
  • Spin 5 PokéStops or gyms (Bunnelby encounter)
  • Explore 2 km (Paldean Wooper encounter)

Rewards: 1,000 Stardust, 1,000 XP

Step 2 of 3

  • Use 5 super effective charged attacks (500 Stardust)
  • Power up Pokémon 5 times (2 Fast TMs)
  • battle in the Go Battle League 5 times (2 Charged TMs)

Rewards: Marill (Blanche) or shadow Machop (Cliff) encounter, 2,000 XP

Step 3 of 3

  • Catch 25 Pokémon (10 Ultra Balls)
  • Power up Pokémon 10 times (1 Silver Pinap Berry)
  • Win a trainer battle in the Go Battle League (Steelix [Blanche] or Marowak [Cliff] encounter)

Rewards: 1 Magnetic Lure Module, 3,000 XP, 2,000 Stardust

’Steeled Resolve’ paid Timed Research

This research only has one step and it costs $5 to unlock. Should you buy the “Steeled Resolve” paid research? Maybe, but only if you play PvP. The rewards are all PvP-centric Pokémon, so you won’t have much use of them (outside of collecting) if you don’t participate in that game mode. You will also get doubled Stardust from hatching Pokémon as a bonus. As a reminder, you should also only buy this ticket if you’re able to complete it by the time the event ends on Jan. 26.

Step 1 of 1

  • Power up Pokémon 5 times (Rookidee encounter)
  • Power up Pokémon 10 times (Diggersby encounter)
  • Win a raid (Inkay encounter)
  • Win 2 raids (Pancham encounter)
  • Win 3 raids (Clodsire encounter)
  • Battle in the Go Battle League (Jumpluff encounter)
  • Battle in the Go Battle League 2 times (Azumarill encounter)
  • Battle in the Go Battle League 3 times (Galarian Weezing encounter)

Rewards: 1 Elite Charged TM, 20,000 Stardust, 5,000 XP

How will Rookidee’s debut change my Pokémon collection during Steeled Resolve

Rookidee’s debut during the Steeled Resolve event offers a unique opportunity to expand your Pokémon collection with a new evolutionary line from Galar. Here’s how it will impact your collection:

  • New Pokédex Entries: You can add Rookidee, Corvisquire, and Corviknight to your Pokédex for the first time, as all three are making their Pokémon Go debut during this event.

  • Limited Availability: Rookidee is not available in standard wild encounters. Instead, you must hatch it from 2 km Eggs, encounter it via Magnetic Lure Modules at PokéStops, win it as a reward in the GO Battle League, or complete premium Timed Research tasks. This makes it a rarer and more exclusive addition compared to typical event spawns.

  • Evolution Opportunities: With 25 Rookidee Candy, you can evolve Rookidee into Corvisquire, and with another 100 Candy, into Corviknight. Corviknight, a Steel/Flying-type, is expected to be a strong contender in PvP, especially in Great and Ultra Leagues.

  • No Shiny Yet: Shiny versions of Rookidee and its evolutions are not available during this event, so your collection will be limited to standard forms for now.

  • Event-Exclusive Move: If you evolve Corvisquire into Corviknight during the event, your Corviknight will learn the exclusive Charged Attack Iron Head, making it a valuable asset for both collectors and competitive players.

In summary, Rookidee’s debut will not only fill new Pokédex slots but also offer a powerful PvP option if you can gather enough Candy and evolve it during the event window.

How will Rookidee’s debut impact my team building during Steeled Resolve

Rookidee’s debut during the Steeled Resolve event can impact your team building in several important ways:

  • New PvP Options: Corviknight, Rookidee’s final evolution, is a Steel/Flying-type Pokémon that brings fresh potential to both Great and Ultra League teams. Its unique typing offers valuable resistances, and its movepool-featuring fast moves like Steel Wing and Air Slash, and charged moves such as Drill Peck and Brave Bird-gives it flexibility in battle.

  • Event-Exclusive Move: If you evolve Corvisquire into Corviknight during the event, your Corviknight will learn the exclusive Charged Attack Iron Head, which can be a strong addition for PvP scenarios.

  • Team Synergy: Corviknight’s dual typing and access to Steel-type moves allow it to cover weaknesses common to many popular PvP Pokémon, making it a strategic addition to teams that need answers to Fairy, Grass, and certain Dragon-types.

  • Collection and Evolution: With Rookidee only available through event-specific methods (such as hatching from 2 km Eggs, Magnetic Lure encounters, and GO Battle League rewards), adding it and its evolutions to your team during the event will require focused effort, but doing so can give you an edge in both PvP and PvE battles.

In summary, Rookidee’s debut and the availability of Corviknight with Iron Head provide new strategic options, especially for players looking to refresh their PvP lineups with a Steel/Flying-type that can counter a variety of threats during and after the Steeled Resolve event.
