Pokémon TCG Pocket Pack Points Guide Expansions Booster Packs Rare Cards

Guides

Pack points vanish with each Pokémon TCG Pocket expansion-leaving collectors scrambling to spend them fast.

How to get pack points in Pokémon TCG Pocket

Pack Points are earned by opening booster packs; each non-promotional pack grants five Pack Points, which you can spend to guarantee cards from that specific set via the Pack Point Exchange. Pack Points are tied to the expansion they come from, so they don’t transfer across different sets, and you can hold a maximum of 2,500 Pack Points. Plan your openings and spend points before an expansion retires to avoid losing unspent points.

To earn pack points in Pokémon TCG Pocket, you simply need to open booster packs. You’ll earn five pack points for every booster pack you open.

That said, pack points do not apply to all booster packs in TCG Packet. Pack points are only applicable for the expansion you earned them from. For instance, if you open any of the three booster packs in the Genetic Apex expansion, you’ll be be able exchange them for Genetic Apex cards, but won’t be able to use them to buy cards from the Mythical Island expansion. Conversely, you can’t exchange pack points earned from opening the Mythical Island expansion’s booster packs for cards from the Genetic Apex expansion.

Pack points expire “if the availability for a given booster pack ends,” according to an in-game menu prior to December 2024’s Mythical Island update. Though as of this writing, there’s no indication of that happening any time soon – that text no longer appears in the game.

Pack point exchange rates in Pokémon TCG Pocket

Pack point exchange rates in Pokémon TCG Pocket vary by expansion and card rarity. Common cards cost 30 points, uncommon 70, rare 100, double rare 250, and illustration rare 500. These rates apply only within the current expansion’s point pool, so points from past sets cannot fund pulls in new ones. Check the in-game shop for exact values during each event.

The pack point cost for a card is determined by the card’s rarity, indicated in the lower-left corner of each card. The cost breakdown is as follows:

  • 35 pack points: One-diamond rarity
  • 70 pack points: Two-diamond rarity
  • 150 pack points: Three-diamond rarity
  • 400 pack points: One-star rarity
  • 500 pack points: Four-diamond rarity
  • 1,250 pack points: Two-star rarity
  • 1,500 pack points: Three-star rarity
  • 2,500 pack points: One-crown rarity

Can I spend pack points on cards from different expansions

No, you cannot spend pack points on cards from different expansions in Pokémon TCG Pocket. Pack points earned from opening booster packs of a specific expansion, like Genetic Apex (A1 code), can only be exchanged for cards within that same expansion.

Official Rules

Each expansion maintains its own isolated pack point system. For instance, points from Mythical Island packs cannot be used on Genetic Apex cards or any other set, as confirmed directly by Pokémon support documentation.

Player Feedback

Community discussions highlight frustration with this limitation, as unused points from completed older expansions accumulate without cross-set utility. Developers have not announced changes to enable universal spending across expansions.

How do pack points expire when an expansion leaves the store

Pack points in Pokémon TCG Pocket do not expire when an expansion leaves the shop. They remain available indefinitely for exchange within their specific expansion, even after booster packs are no longer purchasable.

Policy Change

Early in-game text suggested points would become unavailable if pack availability ended, sparking player concerns. Developers updated the description to clarify points are expansion-specific but persistent, with no expiration timer.

Current Behavior

Expansions like Genetic Apex stay accessible in the exchange menu post-rotation, allowing point spending on cards from that set. Official support confirms no loss of points or exchange access over time.
