Guides

Ready to dominate Black Ops 6 multiplayer? The XM4 assault rifle, unlocked from the start, is your versatile powerhouse for mid-to-long range combat. With the right loadout-combining attachments like the Suppressor for stealth, Reinforced or Long Barrel for range, and Rapid Fire for fire rate-you can transform the XM4 into a lethal, precise, and fast-firing weapon that adapts to any playstyle. Discover the ultimate XM4 class build to maximize accuracy, control recoil, and maintain high mobility, ensuring you stay ahead on every battlefield in Black Ops 6.

It’s essentially an M4 Carbine from Call of Duty games of old: a low recoil, fully automatic gun that is capable of fighting at basically any range as it deals solid damage. The build you want to use will play to the strengths of the gun which is that while it doesn’t excel in any particular area, it can compete with practically any other weapon in the game in the right hands.

Here’s the best XM4 loadout in Black Ops 6, how to unlock the gun in the first place, and the best class to use alongside it.

How to unlock the XM4 in Black Ops 6

Unlocking the XM4 in Black Ops 6 is straightforward: the weapon automatically becomes available once you reach Level 4 in multiplayer. This level also unlocks the custom loadout feature, allowing you to tailor the XM4 to your playstyle. Until then, you can use the XM4 in the default Enforcer loadout to familiarize yourself with the weapon. To reach Level 4 faster, focus on objective-based game modes like Hardpoint, Domination, and Kill Confirmed, complete daily and weekly challenges, and take advantage of Double XP events. This approach will quickly get you access to one of the most versatile assault rifles in the game.

Unlocking the XM4 is incredibly simple, because all you need to do is reach level four. This is the level you’ll unlock custom loadouts at and the XM4 is already there waiting for you as the first assault rifle.

In the meantime, you can use the Enforcer default loadout as the XM4 is also the primary weapon found there.

Best XM4 loadout in Black Ops 6

The best XM4 loadout in Black Ops 6 maximizes the rifle’s power, accuracy, and mobility to dominate medium to long-range engagements while maintaining excellent handling in close quarters. Key attachments include the Compensator muzzle for vertical recoil control, Long Barrel to extend damage range, Vertical Foregrip for horizontal recoil reduction, Quickdraw Grip to boost ADS speed, and Light Stock to enhance movement and hipfire speed. This setup transforms the XM4 into a versatile and fast-firing assault rifle capable of quick target acquisition and sustained firepower. Pairing it with perks like Gung-Ho for sprint-shooting, Double Time for increased mobility, and Assassin for faster scorestreaks further elevates its battlefield effectiveness. For close-range combat, a meta variant with Rapid Fire, Flip Mag, Commando Grip, Light Stock, and Suppressor offers high fire rate and stealth while maintaining mobility. This comprehensive build makes the XM4 one of the top-tier weapons in Black Ops 6 multiplayer.

Here is the best XM4 loadout in Black Ops 6:

  • Optic: Dobrych MF Reflex
  • Muzzle: Compensator
  • Barrel: Long Barrel
  • Underbarrel: Ranger Foregrip
  • Rear Grip: Commando Grip
  • Magazine: Extended Mag I (Gunfighter)
  • Stock: Combat Stock (Gunfighter)
  • Fire Mods: Recoil Springs (Gunfighter)

First things first, note that we can equip eight attachments here due to the Gunfighter wildcard which unlocks at level 33; more on that towards the end of this guide. If you don’t have that yet, just pick the first five attachments listed here.

The iron sight on the XM4 isn’t the greatest. Since you want to be able to compete at range, you want something with a little more zoom, but you also don’t want too much because you still need to be able to deal with enemies up close. The Dobrych MF Reflex sight is perfect for that, but we’d also recommend testing out a few to find the one best suited to you.

The rest of the build is all about accentuating the XM4’s existing strengths, so we’ve gone for the Compensator to improve the already fairly reasonable vertical recoil. Combined with the Long Barrel which improves the damage range significantly, these two attachments are essential for those longer range gunfights.

Then we have the Ranger Foregrip which buffs the horizontal recoil, but also improves your movement speed while sprinting. You could gear the weapon more towards long range engagements here, but as Black Ops 6 multiplayer is quite fast paced, the mobility buff is helpful. The Commando Grip also lends itself to this, with improved aim down sight and sprint to fire speeds.

With the additional three attachments, we’ve gone for the first Extended Mag as it increases the magazine size from 30 to 45 with no downsides, the Combat Stock to buff your flinch resistance and aim walking movement speed, and the Recoil Springs to manage the recoil even more.

Best XM4 class in Black Ops 6

The best XM4 class in Black Ops 6 combines a finely tuned loadout and perks to maximize the weapon’s power, accuracy, and mobility. Key attachments include the Compensator for vertical recoil control, Long Barrel to extend damage range, Vertical Foregrip for horizontal recoil control, Quickdraw Grip to boost ADS speed, and Light Stock for enhanced movement and hipfire speed. Complementing the XM4, the 9MM PM serves as a reliable secondary weapon. Tactical gear like Concussion grenades and Semtex for lethal options enhance combat effectiveness, while the Spring Mine field upgrade helps control key areas. The perk setup of Dexterity, Assassin, and Double Time unlocks the Enforcer specialty, which boosts movement speed and health regeneration, making the player more agile and survivable. Using the Tactical Expert or Gunfighter wildcard allows for additional tactical grenades or extra attachments, further optimizing the XM4’s performance in various combat scenarios.

Here is the best class to use alongside the XM4 in Black Ops 6:

  • Pistol: Grekhova
  • Melee: Knife
  • Tactical: Concussion
  • Lethal: Frag
  • Field Upgrade: Trophy System
  • Perk 1: Ghost
  • Perk 2: Forward Intel
  • Perk 3: Vigilance
  • Specialty: Recon
  • Wildcard Gunfighter

For a jack-of-all-trades gun, you want a jack-of-all-trades class, so nothing here is particularly specialized, but it is a solid all-rounder. Go for the Grekhova pistol as it’s the only fully automatic sidearm in the game and can come in very handy when you need to switch quickly. The Concussion and Frag grenade choices are pretty standard, and the Trophy System helps defend either your location or the objective from incoming throwables.

The perk system in Black Ops 6 uses specialties, which essentially means if you have three of the same color, you get a bonus perk. In this case, we’re going for three blue perks: Ghost, Forward Intel, and Vigilance.

That activates the Recon specialty, which grants X-ray vision for a few moments after you respawn so you can see enemies outlined, you receive a HUD (heads-up display) flash when an enemy is just outside of your view, and you don’t leave death skulls when you kill enemies.

Ghost means you’re invisible to enemy radar pings and UAVs while moving or interacting, Forward Intel increases your minimap area and shows the direction enemies are traveling for revealed foes, and Vigilance shows a HUD icon whenever you appear on an enemy minimap, and it makes you immune to Counter UAVs, Scrambler, and Sleeper Agent.

Finally, as mentioned above, we have the Gunfighter wildcard. This permits three extra attachments on your primary weapon, allowing us to use eight in total. However, it isn’t unlocked until level 33, so you’ll need to do some grinding first.

How can I optimize my XM4 loadout for maximum long-range dominance in Black Ops 6

To optimize your XM4 loadout for maximum long-range dominance in Black Ops 6, focus on attachments that enhance damage range, recoil control, and bullet velocity while maintaining accuracy and stealth:

  • Optic: Merlin Reflex or Willis 3x for clear target acquisition at distance.

  • Muzzle: Suppressor to stay off the radar and reduce muzzle flash.

  • Barrel: Long Barrel or Gain-Twist Barrel to maximize effective damage range and bullet velocity, extending your reach up to around 64 meters without downsides.

  • Underbarrel: Vertical Foregrip or Ranger Foregrip to reduce horizontal recoil and improve stability.

  • Magazine: Extended Mag 1 or 2 to increase ammo capacity for sustained engagements.

  • Rear Grip: Commando Grip or Quickdraw Grip to improve aiming stability and ADS speed.

  • Stock: Buffer Weight Stock or Light Stock to enhance aiming stability and mobility.

  • Fire Mod: Recoil Springs for superior recoil control or 5.56 NATO Overpressured for increased stopping power.

Pair this setup with perks like Gung-Ho (sprint while shooting), Double Time (increased sprint duration), and Assassin (score bonuses) for mobility and survivability. Equip tactical and lethal gear such as Flashbang and Semtex to control engagements effectively. This build turns the XM4 into a laser-precise, long-range powerhouse capable of competing with specialized marksman rifles, making it highly versatile for mid-to-long-range combat in Black Ops 6 multiplayer.

What attachments best enhance the XM4’s long-range accuracy and control

The best attachments to enhance the XM4’s long-range accuracy and control in Black Ops 6 include:

  • Muzzle: Compensator or Agency Suppressor for vertical recoil control and stealth respectively.

  • Barrel: Long Barrel or Reinforced Barrel to significantly increase damage range and bullet velocity, extending effective engagement distance up to around 90 meters.

  • Underbarrel: Vertical Foregrip or Ranger Foregrip to reduce horizontal recoil and improve overall stability.

  • Rear Grip: Quickdraw Grip or Commando Grip to boost ADS speed and aiming stability.

  • Stock: Light Stock or Buffer Weight Stock to enhance mobility and recoil control.

  • Magazine: Extended Mag (preferably Extended Mag III) for sustained fire without frequent reloads.

  • Fire Mod: Recoil Springs or 5.56 NATO Overpressured to further reduce recoil and increase stopping power.

This combination minimizes recoil both vertically and horizontally, maximizes damage range, and improves ADS speed, making the XM4 highly accurate and controllable at long distances.
