Zakusu Shrine in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Location and Walkthrough Guide

Guides

Hidden high in the Hebra Mountains, the Zakusu Shrine challenges even the most seasoned adventurers with blinding snow, steep terrain, and a trial that tests your precision and wit. This guide shows exactly where to find it and how to clear its icy puzzle for a well-earned Light of Blessing.

To access the Zakusu Shrine, you’ll need level two cold resistance, and you’ll need to complete the “The High Spring and the Light Rings” shrine quest.

When you’re done, our shrine locations page or interactive Hyrule map can direct you toward something else to do.

Zakusu Shrine location

Zakusu Shrine is located in the snowy mountains of the Hebra region, northeast of Mount Lanayru. You can find it near the top of Mount Lanayru, accessible through the Rospro Pass region. Because of the freezing temperatures, bring cold-resistant armor or food to survive the harsh weather. Climbing is required to reach the shrine’s elevated location, so stamina-boosting meals or elixirs are helpful for the ascent.

The Zakusu Shrine can be found within the Mount Lanayru region, but only appears after the “The High Spring and the Light Rings” shrine quest is completed. The exact coordinates for the Zakusu Shrine are (3527, -1481, 0168).

How to complete “The High Spring and the Light Rings” shrine quest

Speak to Nazbi near the Spring of Wisdom to receive the riddle about skimming snow from a high spring through light rings. Launch from Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower, land on the nearby sky island with a pond, and activate the Zonai pedestal to spawn the first green ring at the slope’s base. Grab the nearby sled shield, shield-surf down the steep incline through each descending ring-using tight turns and a brief paraglider to cushion ground im

1. Travel to the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower, which can be found on the eastern side of Hyrule.

2. Head to the east of the skyview tower to find the Spring of Wisdom.

3. Interact with Nazbi, who can be found at the entrance of the Spring of Wisdom, to start the “The High Spring and the Light Rings” shrine quest.

4. Return to the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower, and use it to launch into the air.

5. Glide over to the Sky Island to the southeast of the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower. On this Sky Island, you’ll find an altar similar to one found in front of shrines.

6. Interact with the altar to start a short cutscene showing you a light ring.

7. Look to your left to find a sled shield laying against the wall, and pick it up.

8. Equip the sled shield, and shield surf down the snowy slope through the light ring.

9. Deploy your paraglider before you hit the ground, and then continue to snowboard through each light ring. There are a total of seven light rings including the one on the Sky Island.

10. Once you’ve successfully passed through all seven light rings, the Zakusu Shrine will reveal itself.

Zakusu Shrine walkthrough

Zakusu Shrine challenges players with a series of precise wind and glider-based puzzles that test timing and control. Use the paraglider to ride air currents between platforms and adjust your descent carefully to reach each target. Activating fans and managing angles is key to maintaining height across the gaps. After completing the flight sequence, interact with the altar at the end to receive your Light of Blessing reward.

The Zakusu Shrine tests your knowledge on the Ascend ability as it pits you against numerous Constructs. Similar to other “Proving Grounds” challenges, you will not be able to use any of your gear, but instead will receive a couple sticks and an old wooden shield.

In the “Proving Grounds: Ascension” challenge, you’ll have to defeat five Soldier Constructs and one Captain Construct. An enemy can be found on each tier as you Ascend up the walkways except for the highest floor, where you’ll find the Captain Construct and one Soldier Construct.

As you defeat a Construct, be sure to use Fuse and combine their materials to your sticks to improve the attack damage on your weapons. Once you defeat every enemy inside, you can open the chest to receive a Soldier IV spear and finish the shrine to get a Light of Blessing.

Zakusu Shrine Proving Grounds Ascension walkthrough

Zakusu Shrine, titled “Proving Grounds: Ascension,” challenges players to defeat Constructs across multiple levels using only provided gear and the Ascend ability in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.โ€‹

Entry Setup

Upon entering, Link loses all equipped armor and weapons. Pick up the wooden stick, bow, old wooden shield, and arrows near the entrance, along with nearby Zonai devices like Flame Emitters from dispensers.โ€‹

Ground Level Tactics

Clear initial Soldier Constructs on the lower platform by fusing their dropped horns (e.g., Soldier Construct II Horn) with sticks for stronger weapons (around 12-13 damage). Use Recall on moving platforms to reach elevated walkways safely, and watch for enemies on bridges.โ€‹

Mid-Level Ascension

Ascend through overhanging platforms to fight more Soldiers and archers-aim for headshots with fused arrows or elemental fruits from bushes for fire/ice effects. Grab Zonai rockets to fuse onto shields for air boosts or weapons for throws.โ€‹

Captain Construct Fight

At the top, face the Captain Construct and a final Soldier. Back it toward the edge using a fused Spiky Bat or rocket-enhanced weapon, then exploit weak points like the eye. A hot air balloon with candles can provide safe access if needed.โ€‹

Exit and Rewards

Defeat all enemies to unlock the exit chest with a Soldier’s Spear (42 attack). Interact with the altar for a Light of Blessing; gear returns outside.โ€‹

How to defeat Captain Construct in Zakusu Shrine

Captain Construct Fight
The Captain Construct in Zakusu Shrine appears on the top level alongside one final Soldier Construct, wielding a powerful weapon and using ranged Zonai device attacks. Fuse materials like Soldier Construct horns or a Spiky Iron Ball from earlier drops onto sticks or the Spiky Bat for high-damage weapons (20+ attack), then target its glowing red eye for critical hits and staggers.โ€‹

Positioning Tactics
Back the Captain toward the edge of the platform to knock it off using charged swings or shield bashes, preventing it from closing distance. Use Recall on the nearby moving lift platform to reach safe high ground, firing fused arrows (with Fire Fruit from bushes for burn damage) at the eye while dodging its swings.โ€‹โ€‹

Advanced Strategies
Fuse a Zonai Rocket to your shield for aerial boosts to evade or a Flame Emitter for elemental damage; parry its telegraphed attacks when the eye glows red. If overwhelmed, drop to lower levels via ledges (it won’t die from falls) and re-engage with fused gear from prior kills. Once defeated, loot parts for stronger fuses and proceed to the exit.โ€‹โ€‹
