How to get Nickit in Pokémon Go

Nickit can be obtained in Pokémon Go primarily during the Deep Depths event, which began on March 19, 2025. Players can catch Nickit in the wild as an uncommon encounter, hatch it from 7 km eggs, or receive it as a reward from event-specific Field Research tasks, such as defeating Team Go Rocket Grunts. Purchasing the Premium Timed Research ticket for the event also guarantees encounters with Nickit. To evolve Nickit into Thievul, you need to collect 50 Nickit Candy, which can be accelerated by using Pinap Berries, having Nickit as your buddy, or hatching more eggs. Currently, Nickit does not have a shiny variant available in Pokémon Go.

Making its first appearance in 2025’s “Deep Depths” event, on its debut, Nickit can be found:

  • In the wild (uncommon encounter)
  • By hatching 7 km eggs
  • In “Deep Depths” event Field Research (the “defeat two Team Go Rocket Grunts” task)
  • In the “Deep Depths” Premium Timed Research Ticket (one for completing “Defeat a Team Go Rocket Grunt”, and another for completing every step)

The easiest option for your first encounter is to purchase the Premium Timed Research ticket for $2 (or the regional equivalent) and defeat a Team Go Rocket Grunt. You’ll get a second for completing every task in the ticket, but if you want a repeatable source after that, then the event Field Research “defeat two Team Go Rocket Grunts” is what you should be looking out for when you spin PokéStop.

Otherwise, keep your eyes peeled on the Nearby feature in the bottom-right corner of the map screen for when a wild spawn appears near you.

Finally, Nickit can also appear in 7 km eggs, but even with the half distance bonus during the event period, this is the most unreliable and time-intensive option of them all – so opt for everything else mentioned above instead.

How to get Thievul in Pokémon Go

To get Thievul in Pokémon Go, you first need to catch Nickit, which can be found in the wild during events such as the Deep Depths event. To evolve Nickit into Thievul, you must collect 50 Nickit Candy. Using Pinap Berries when catching Nickit can help double the Candy earned, and having Nickit as your buddy Pokémon will also earn Candy as you walk. Once you have 50 Candy, simply evolve Nickit into Thievul through the Pokémon menu. Thievul does not currently spawn in the wild and cannot be hatched from eggs, so evolving from Nickit is the primary method to obtain it.

To get Thievul in Pokémon Go, you must evolve Nickit with 50 Candy.

Even if Nickit can be found in a handful of ways on its debut, you’ll still want to make use of Pinap Berries – as well as an active dark-type Mega Evolution – to squeeze more candy out of every encounter.

If you’re particularly keen to find them in the wild, once you have a Nickit in your Pokédex, you can track it and set alerts for when they appear.

If you’re struggling, you can passively get candy by having one as your buddy Pokémon for every 1km you travel, but if you’re in a rush to get Thievul, then using Rare Candy is always an option – though we’d always advocate saving these for legendary or mythic Pokémon where Candy is really hard to come by.

Can Nickit be shiny in in Pokémon Go?

As of March 2025, Nickit cannot be found in its shiny form in Pokémon GO. Niantic typically does not release a Pokémon’s shiny variant simultaneously with its regular debut, so shiny Nickit is expected to be introduced in future events at an unspecified date. Players can currently catch Nickit through wild encounters, 7 km egg hatches, and event research rewards, but will have to wait for a later update to encounter a shiny version in the game.

At the time of writing, Nickit cannot be shiny in Pokémon Go. It’s very rare we have a shiny version on a Pokémon’s debut, and it’s likely we’ll be waiting a while – possibly years – for it to appear in Pokémon Go.

How can I find shiny Nickit and Thievul in Pokémon Go now

Currently, in Pokémon GO, shiny Nickit and shiny Thievul are not available. Niantic typically does not release shiny variants of new Pokémon immediately upon their debut, so shiny Nickit and its evolution Thievul have yet to be introduced in the game.

To find Nickit now, you can encounter it in the wild, hatch it from 7 km eggs, or complete event-based research tasks during the Deep Depths event. Nickit is a rare spawn and appears more frequently in foggy weather, where using Incense and Lure Modules at PokéStops can help increase spawn rates. After catching Nickit and collecting 50 Candy, you can evolve it into Thievul.

For shiny hunters, it means you must wait for a future update or event when Niantic decides to release shiny Nickit and Thievul. Meanwhile, you can track Nickit spawns and use strategies like having Nickit as your buddy to earn Candy and prepare for when shiny forms become available.

Why is shiny Nickit currently unavailable in Pokémon Go

Shiny Nickit is currently unavailable in Pokémon GO because Niantic typically does not release a Pokémon’s shiny variant simultaneously with its initial debut. Nickit was introduced during the Deep Depths event in March 2025, but its shiny form has been withheld and will be released at a later, unannounced date. This approach follows Niantic’s usual practice of staggering shiny releases to maintain player interest over time.
