All Fen’Harel Altars in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Fen’Harel Altars in Dragon Age: The Veilguard are scattered across six key regions, including the Crossroads, Rivain Coast, Dock Town, Treviso, Hossberg Wetlands, and Arlathan Forest, totaling 15 altars. Each altar is marked by a large wolf statue that, once activated, points toward a spectral wolf guiding players to a hidden crystal wolf figurine. Collecting these figurines rewards players with valuable skill points for their character. The altars often require solving simple environmental puzzles or navigating challenging terrain, such as activating ziplines or aligning statues to form bridges. Notable locations include multiple altars in the Crossroads region, where the first altar is encountered during the quest “Into the Crossroads,” and others found near ruined structures or natural landmarks. This system encourages exploration and puzzle-solving throughout the game world, enhancing character progression through these collectible skill points.
As you walk around areas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, a wolf sign might appear below your minimap, indicating that a Fen’harel statue is close by. Interacting with a Fen’Harel Altar in Dragon Age: The Veilguard starts a miniature treasure hunt.
The Fen’harel statue rotates, pointing to the direction where you are going to find the real prize: a wolf statuette that rewards you one skill point – helpful no matter what class or specialization you’re playing. Although the Fen’Harel Altar points toward the direction where you will find the statue, the ultimate location is not indicated on your map. You must take the direction as a reference and scrutinize every possible corner to get your extra skill point.
After you activate the altar, if you get near the location it’s pointing to, you will be able to hear a wolf howling. There is always a spectral wolf at the solutions, which functions as a visual cue of where to go.
There are 15 Fen’Harel Altars in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, strewn across six regions:
- Five statues in the Crossroads
- Two statues in the Rivain Coast
- Two statues in Dock Town
- One statue in Treviso
- Two statues in the Hossberg Wetlands

What secrets do the Fen’Harel Altars reveal about Dragon Age’s lore
The Fen’Harel Altars in Dragon Age reveal deep and complex lore surrounding Fen’Harel, also known as the Dread Wolf, a trickster god who plays a pivotal role in elven mythology and the fate of the Fade. These altars symbolize Fen’Harel’s ambivalent nature-feared as a bringer of nightmares and revered as a protector who once betrayed both the benevolent elven gods (the Creators) and their enemies, the Forgotten Ones, by trapping them in their realms to end their eternal war. This act, known as “the Betrayal,” left Fen’Harel as a solitary figure controlling the Fade, patrolling it and feasting on souls, which explains the Dalish elves’ wary reverence and offerings to him. The altars also hint at Fen’Harel’s connection to Solas, who is revealed to be Fen’Harel incarnate, deepening the narrative of rebellion, trickery, and the struggle for control over the Fade and elven destiny.
What deeper lore about Fen’Harel’s role in the elven gods does the game hint at
The game hints at Fen’Harel’s complex role as a rebellious figure who betrayed both the elven gods known as the Evanuris (the Creators) and their rivals, the Forgotten Ones. Fen’Harel, initially an equal among these powerful beings, grew disillusioned with their madness and lust for power, especially after the murder of his closest friend, the goddess Mythal. To end their destructive conflict, he tricked both factions by promising a secret weapon, then locked them away in the Fade, effectively sealing them off from the world in an event known as “the Betrayal.” This act also involved creating the Veil, a barrier separating the physical world from the Fade, which stripped elves of their immortality and magical connection. Fen’Harel’s motivations appear to be a mix of self-interest and a desire to prevent further devastation, leaving him as the sole god-like presence controlling the Fade while the elves were left to fend for themselves. This layered narrative portrays Fen’Harel as both a protector and a trickster whose actions shaped the fate of the elven gods and their people.
