Igon questline steps in Elden Ring DLC
Igon’s questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC begins when you find him lying near the Pillar Path Waypoint in Gravesite Plain. After speaking with him, you will need to defeat the Ancient Dragon-Man in the Dragon’s Pit to unlock access to the Jagged Peak region. Progressing through the Jagged Peak involves battling several dragons and navigating dangerous terrain. The quest culminates in a challenging fight against Bayle the Dread, Igon’s arch-nemesis. This questline intertwines with the DLC’s main story and offers significant lore and combat challenges.

Where to find Igon in Gravesite Plain
Igon can be found in the Gravesite Plain region of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, specifically just west of the Pillar Path Waypoint Site of Grace in the eastern part of Gravesite Plain. He is initially encountered resting and screaming in pain near this Site of Grace, where he expresses his hatred for the dragon Bayle the Dread. To reach him, head east from the Castle Front Site of Grace, cross the Ellac Greatbridge, and then follow the path south past gravestones to the Pillar Path Waypoint. Igon’s presence is marked by his cries of pain, making him relatively easy to locate in this area.

Igon can be found resting (and loudly screaming in pain) just west of the Pillar Path Waypoint Site of Grace in east Gravesite Plain. Talk to him, and you’ll learn about his hatred of Bayle the Dread. Exhaust Igon’s dialogue and continue to head south.
Shortly after encountering Igon, you’ll be invaded by the Ancient Dragon-Man spirit. Defeat the invader and continue south until you reach the Dragon’s Pit dungeon.
How to complete Dragon’s Pit dungeon
To complete the Dragon’s Pit dungeon in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, start by activating the Site of Grace inside the cave entrance located near the Pillar Path Waypoint. Proceed carefully through the dungeon, defeating the skeletal enemies who can resurrect unless given a final blow to their glowing ribcage. Collect valuable items such as Smithing Stones and the Shadow Realm Rune as you explore the cave’s narrow paths and ledges. Continue upward to confront and defeat the Lesser Magma Wyrm, then descend and drop down a cliff to reach the boss fog gate. Defeat the Ancient Dragon-Man boss to obtain the Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana. After the boss fight, open the large double doors behind the arena instead of returning to the entrance; this leads to the Dragon’s Pit Terminus Site of Grace and the path to Jagged Peak, allowing you to advance Igon’s questline and access new areas.
After entering the dungeon, you’ll discover a new site of grace, the Dragon’s Pit. This dungeon cave is filled with Skeletal Beastman who will ambush you and resurrect after being struck down. Dragon’s Pit is also home to a Magma Wyrm who will drop a Dragon Heart and Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone when defeated.
Escaping the Dragon’s Pit requires taking a leap of faith into a huge open pit in front of a candlelit altar. Jumping into the pit is safe, and will lead you to a dungeon boss fight against the physical form of Ancient Dragon-Man.

After defeating the Ancient Dragon-Man, you’ll be rewarded with the Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana weapon. You’ll be presented with a teleporter that will take you back to the entrance of Dragon’s Pit and a set of doors that you need to walk through to access the Foot of the Jagged Peak region and the Dragon’s Pit Terminus Site of Grace.
Defeat the Jagged Peak Drake
To defeat the Jagged Peak Drake in Igon’s questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, you must first reach the Foot of the Jagged Peak, where the drake awaits. This dragon deals both fire and lightning damage, so prepare accordingly. Engaging and defeating this Jagged Peak Drake is essential to progress the quest, as it drops valuable items like Dragon Heart and Dragonscale Flesh. After this battle, you will continue climbing the mountain to face more challenges, including fighting two more drakes simultaneously before meeting Igon again. Successfully overcoming these drakes is a crucial step before confronting the final boss, Bayle the Dread.
The first of many dragon fights occurs shortly after reaching the Foot of the Jagged Peak.
The Jagged Peak Drake boss fight is optional, but it will reward you with a Dragon Heart, a Dragonscale Flesh, and a large number of runes. Plus, it’s good practice for all the other dragon battles you’re about to take on.
Find the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion and speak to Dragon Communion Priestess
To find the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion, start by completing the Dragon’s Pit dungeon and exiting at the Dragon’s Pit Terminus Site of Grace. From there, head east past a sleeping Jagged Peak Drake, taking the southern path at the fork to reach the altar, which lies beside the enormous corpse of a dead dragon. At the altar, you will meet the Dragon Communion Priestess, who will introduce you to the Dragon Communion and offer you the choice to partake in consuming draconic essence. Accepting her blessing will set you on the path to hunt Bayle the Dread, a powerful dragon tied to both her and Igon’s questlines in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. The Priestess will provide you with Ancient Dragon’s Blessings and lore about the dragons sacrificed for the Communion.

South of the Jagged Peak Drake boss arena is another site of grace, the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion, and its attendant, the Dragon Communion Priestess. Speak to the priestess and she’ll offer you a choice: “Devour draconic essence” or “Do not partake.” Choose to devour the draconic essence and the priestess will reward you with a new consumable item, the Ancient Dragon’s Blessing.
The Ancient Dragon’s Blessing consumes a small amount of FP to increase all forms of damage negation. The Ancient Dragon’s Blessing is a single-use item, but the Dragon Communion Priestess will give you a replacement upon demand. Don’t be shy about using the blessing, or refilling it.
If you’re visiting the Dragon Communion Priestess at nighttime, you can give her Thiollier’s Concoction to put her to sleep, which is the only way to eventually unlock her spirit ash summon.
Defeat the Jagged Peak Drake duo and find Igon
To progress in Igon’s questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, you must defeat the duo of Jagged Peak Drakes found on the mountain path. These two dragons are engaged in a fierce battle, and you can either fight them simultaneously or let one weaken the other before finishing them off. Defeating both drakes is essential to advance the quest and unlock Igon’s Furled Finger, which allows you to summon him later. After this, you will find Igon further up the Jagged Peak, where you will eventually face the formidable dragon Bayle the Dread together.

After speaking with the Dragon Communion Priestess, head back north to the Jagged Peak Drake arena, then northeast, up the mountain, and across a bridge to reach the Foot of the Jagged Peak site. Continue further up the mountain until you reach a pair of drakes battling each other.
Simply wait on the outskirts of the battle until one of the drakes dies and the other is sufficiently injured by the deceased drake. Defeat the remaining drake to receive a Dragon Heart, a Dragonscale Flesh, and a large number of runes.
After the battle, you’ll see Igon again just to the east of the drake duo boss arena. Speak to him and he’ll give you Igon’s Furled Finger, an item that will let you summon Igon during the battle against Bayle the Dread. You don’t need to equip Igon’s Furled Finger; simply having it in your inventory will make the Drake Warrior Igon summon sign appear in the Bayle fight.
Defeat Ancient Dragon Senessax
To defeat Ancient Dragon Senessax in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, you will find this optional boss fight halfway up the Jagged Peak, past the area where you face the Jagged Peak Drake. Senessax lies in a pool of water and will awaken once you step into it. The fight is challenging due to Senessax’s powerful lightning attacks, which are buffed and difficult to dodge. Key strategies include dodging lightning by rolling forward through attacks and backward through pulses, avoiding locking onto the dragon to maintain better visibility, and focusing attacks on its feet while using Torrent to jump over area-of-effect lightning slams. After defeating Senessax, you receive valuable upgrade materials useful for enhancing your weapons, especially the Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana for the upcoming Bayle the Dread fight.
After speaking with Igon, continue heading east and even further up the Jagged Peak mountain, utilizing spirit springs and avoiding an environmental danger: giant rolling boulders.
Eventually, you’ll encounter Ancient Dragon Senessax on your ride up Jagged Peak mountain. This fire-breathing and lightning-channeling ancient dragon will feel familiar if you’ve previously faced Lichdragon Fortissax and Ancient Dragon Lansseax. Stay on Torrent for as long as you can in the battle against Ancient Dragon Senessax, utilizing the steed’s quick movement to get behind the dragon and to double jump over its ground-based lightning attacks.
Defeating Ancient Dragon Senessax will reward you with an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone and a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.
Face Bayle the Dread
Bayle the Dread is a formidable optional boss in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, located at the summit of Jagged Peak. As the ancient forefather of the drakes and a sworn enemy of the ancient dragons, Bayle is the target of Igon’s long-standing vengeance. The battle is challenging, featuring Bayle’s powerful fire-based attacks and massive health pool. Players can summon Igon, who fights alongside them without increasing Bayle’s health, making the fight more manageable. To defeat Bayle, it is recommended to use anti-dragon weapons like the Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana and to employ strategies that exploit his weaknesses to frost and rot. Successfully overcoming Bayle rewards players with the Heart of Bayle, a unique Dragon Heart item tied to Igon’s questline.

After the Ancient Dragon Senessax battle, continue to head up Jagged Peak, riding three more spirit springs to reach the summit. You’ll find one more site of grace, Jagged Peak Summit, which is located just outside of the Bayle the Dread boss arena.
If you want to summon Drake Warrior Igon, you’ll have to do so from within the arena itself, after you’ve passed through the mist wall. The Drake Warrior Igon gold summon sign is immediately to the left when entering Bayle’s arena.
You’ll likely need all the help you can get when facing Bayle the Dread, a boss battle that will test your skill and your patience with Elden Ring’s camera. Since Bayle uses plenty of fire-based attacks, equip your best fire protection. You should also use your Ancient Dragon’s Blessing to reduce your damage intake, and use any frost- or scarlet rot-inflicting weapons you have to whittle down Bayle’s health. If you’re struggling, our guide on how to beat Bayle the Dread can help.
Defeating Bayle will reward you with the Heart of Bayle item, a new type of Dragon Heart.
Igon’s quest rewards
Igon’s questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree culminates in a challenging battle against his nemesis, Bayle the Dread. Upon defeating Bayle with Igon’s aid, players receive the Heart of Bayle, a unique Dragon Heart, and must return to Igon’s last location near the Foot of the Jagged Peak Site of Grace. There, interacting with Igon’s body grants players his full armor set, including Igon’s Helm, Armor, Gauntlets, and Loincloth, as well as his Greatbow and Bell-Bearings. These Bell-Bearings can be given to the Twin Maiden Husks to unlock Igon’s Harpoons, a powerful Greatarrow effective against dragons. Additionally, the Heart of Bayle can be exchanged at the Dragon Communion Altar for potent incantations like Bayle’s Flame Lightning or Bayle’s Tyranny, further enhancing the rewards from this questline.

Once Bayle the Dread has been defeated, and Igon has received his justice, return to the Foot of the Jagged Peak site of grace to find Igon’s corpse where you last spoke to him. He’ll have dropped the following items:
- Igon’s Greatbow
- Igon’s Helm
- Igon’s Armor
- Igon’s Gauntlets
- Igon’s Loincloth
- Igon’s Bell Bearing
Return to the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion site of grace. The Dragon Communion Priestess will have moved on, but she’ll have left some items behind.
- If you gave her Thiollier’s Concoction, the Ancient Dragon Florissax Spirit Ash will be your reward, letting you summon her as a spirit in battle.
- If you didn’t give her Thiollier’s Concoction, you’ll get the Flowerstone Gavel hammer weapon and the Priestess Heart consumable item. Using the Priestess Heart will let you assume dragon form and boosts your Dragon Cult incantations.

Finally, you can cash in the Heart of Bayle at the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion to unlock one of two incantations:
- Bayle’s Flame Lightning, which “channels the form of the dread dragon in right arm to smash foes with an exposed talon bone coursing with flame lightning”
- Bayle’s Tyranny, which “channels the form of the dread dragon to emit a mighty roar accompanied by a heatwave burst, causing violent eruptions of fire in the area”
What are the key choices that influence the ending of the Igon questline in Elden Ring
The key choices that influence the ending of Igon’s questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree revolve around your actions during the final confrontation with Bayle the Dread and how you handle the rewards afterward. Specifically:
-
Assisting Igon in defeating Bayle by using Igon’s Furled Finger to summon him during the boss fight is crucial to completing the questline successfully.
-
After defeating Bayle, you can obtain the Legendary Heart of Bayle, which can be taken to the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion. What you do with this heart influences the rewards you receive and the final outcome of Igon’s story.
-
Returning to Igon’s last known location after Bayle’s defeat allows you to collect Igon’s Greatbow, Armor Set, and Bell Bearing, which are part of the quest’s closure and reflect your choices in aiding him.
While the questline itself primarily culminates in defeating Bayle and claiming these rewards, the broader Elden Ring endings are affected by multiple questlines and choices beyond Igon’s quest. However, Igon’s questline completion is essential for unlocking his assistance and the associated rewards, which enrich the game’s narrative and gameplay experience.
How do my choices during the Igon questline affect the final boss fight outcomes
Your choices during the Igon questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree mainly affect the dynamics of the final boss fight against Bayle the Dread. The critical choice is whether you summon Igon to assist you in the battle. Igon’s summon sign appears only inside the boss arena after Bayle lands, and summoning him provides valuable aid during this challenging fight. Not summoning Igon means you face Bayle alone, making the encounter more difficult.
Beyond this, the questline does not branch into multiple endings or drastically alter the final boss fight’s outcome. Igon’s fate is fixed-he dies after the battle with Bayle regardless of your actions. However, helping Igon defeat Bayle grants you access to his unique rewards, including his Greatbow, Armor Set, and Bell Bearing, which you can collect after the fight.
In summary, the key impact of your choices is whether you use Igon as a summon to ease the final boss fight or face Bayle solo, affecting the difficulty but not the overall story outcome of the questline.
