Hoarah Loux, Warrior, stands as one of Elden Ring’s most brutal gatekeepers, a relentless force of raw power and fury guarding the path to the Erdtree. Facing him means mastering precise dodges against devastating area attacks, exploiting his vulnerability to bleed and slash damage, and summoning your allies to survive his punishing onslaught. Ready your weapons and steel your nerves-this is the ultimate test before the final battle.
To help you in this herculean task, we’ve prepared this Elden Ring guide on how to beat Hourah Loux, including details on weaknesses, how to prepare, and how to dodge Hourah Loux’s moves.
Hoarah Loux, Warrior location in Elden Ring
Hoarah Loux, Warrior is encountered in Elden Ring’s final area, Leyndell, Ashen Capital. The boss fight takes place in an arena located beyond the Queen’s Bedchamber, deeper within the capital. Players must progress through Leyndell to reach this challenging encounter, which is a key step before facing the game’s final bosses.
To face Hoarah Loux, you need to progress up to Leyndell, Ashen Capital, which is Elden Ring’s final area. The arena where you fight this boss is located further into the capital, after the Queen’s Bedchamber. Once that’s done, the Hoarah Loux fight begins.
Hoarah Loux weaknesses and how to prepare
Hoarah Loux, Warrior, does not have glaring weaknesses but is more vulnerable to slash-type and lightning damage, making weapons with these attributes particularly effective against him. He is also susceptible to Scarlet Rot, so using incantations like Rotten Breath or Scarlet Aeonia can gradually wear him down. Preparing for the fight involves being at least level 140, upgrading your weapons and armor, and progressing questlines like Nepheli Loux’s to summon helpful NPC allies. During the battle, mastering dodge timing is crucial to avoid his fast, aggressive attacks and devastating area-of-effect moves, such as shockwaves and grabs. Summoning tanky Spirit Ashes can help distract him, especially in the more aggressive second phase, allowing you to deal damage safely from a distance.
Hoarah Loux is among the strongest bosses in the game. Considering that you can only face him close to the end of Elden Ring, you should be at least level 140 to fight him. Any lower than that, and you’ll see half of your health bar depleted if you get hit by even one of his attacks.
While Hoarah Loux doesn’t have any major weaknesses for you to exploit, slash-type weapons are the best ones against him, since he has lower resistance against that type of damage. Lightning works pretty well too.
Besides upgrading your beast armor and weapons, you can also complete a couple of sidequests to guarantee that you can summon a NPC to help you in this fight. By completing the Nepheli Loux and Shabiri questlines, their signs will appear in front of the entrance to the arena. Consider going through these side quests so you can summon both characters to find alongside you.
Other options are using Spirit Ashes or multiplayer to beat the boss.
How to beat Hoarah Loux in Elden Ring
To beat Hoarah Loux in Elden Ring, focus on exploiting his lower resistance to slash-type weapons and lightning damage. The fight has two phases: first, you battle Godfrey, the First Elden Lord, then Hoarah Loux emerges after Godfrey’s health drops to half. Summon the Mimic Tear Ashes to distract him while you attack from behind, prioritizing bleed damage with Ashes of War like Bloody Slash. In the second phase, Hoarah Loux becomes more aggressive with devastating area attacks and grapples, so master your dodge timing-especially for his leg stomp and grab moves. Keep your distance after his jumps to avoid shockwaves, and use spirit summons to maintain pressure while staying mobile to avoid his combos. Persistence and precise dodging are key to overcoming this punishing gatekeeper of the Erdtree.
Just like other major encounters, such as against Maliketh, the fight against Hoarah Loux has two phases. In the first one, the boss will go by his older name, Godfrey, First Elden Lord. After a short cutscene, he comes back in his second phase but now as Hoarah Loux. Below, you find explanations about each phase and the best strategies to deal with them.
Godfrey, First Elden Lord, first boss fight phase
The first part of this fight is pretty similar to the previous encounter you had with Godfrey, even though you were fighting a spectral version of the first Elden Lord. The most basic move that he will constantly use is to swipe his massive axe at you in sequence. Dodging these attacks is a matter of learning their timing and rolling to the opposite side.
The best window to hit Godfrey is when he tries to hit you with heavy blows which forces him not to move for a moment after finishing the animation. Always try to attack him after Godfrey has acted first. Trying to hit him before seeing his moves is dangerous.

In case you’re too far from him, he can perform a simple dash toward you, or he can jump at you, or jump and throw his axe at you. The best way to respond to any of these scenarios is to roll far from him. In all of them, Godfrey follows up his gap-closer move with an attack which might be tricky to dodge when you’re still learning the fight.

During this phase, you also need to deal with his stomp attack which forms a frontal cone of spikes coming from the ground. Rolling sideways is a good way to avoid this attack, but if you learn the time, try jumping which you can follow up with a heavy attack. Pay attention to his leg and prepare to jump.

As the fight goes on, Godfrey starts using a variation of this stomp attack. In this second version, he still raises his foot but he hits the ground with the small part of his axe, sending a shockwave around him and lifting spikes from the ground in the whole area. Get as far as you can to avoid getting hit.

He also has a large area-of-effect attack. He begins by performing a vertical frontal attack with his axe and hitting the ground.

However, right after this, you can see Godfrey using his leg to force the axe into the ground, emitting a shockwave.

A massive fissure appears in the area. Godfrey then pulls his axe from the ground, causing an explosion covering a vertical slice of the arena. To avoid getting hit by such a deadly ability, once you are safe from the initial move, get far from him to escape the shockwave and the explosion.
As you might expect, Godfrey mixes these moves. However, once you learn how to identify them and exploit the right moments to hit him, you’ll make it through. Then it’s time to finally face Hoarah Loux.
Hoarah Loux, Warrior, second boss fight phase
In his new form, Hoarah Loux née Godfrey has a shorter list of attacks, making your life easier when it comes to memorizing them. However, they hit way harder than those during the first phase. Choosing the wrong moment to drink a flask or attack him is enough to get hit by two of his abilities and thus die.
During this phase, there are two lesser dangerous attacks that Hoarah Loux uses. In both scenarios, you don’t want to let him get near you – if they connect, you’re locked in the attack’s animation and will take a lot of damage. In the first, he runs toward you with raised arms.

The second, meanwhile, is a sequence of swipes with his claws.

The stomp move is back but is now followed up by a sweep attack. Because of that, jumping right in front of Hourah Loux to avoid the initial shockwave is not the best idea. Roll toward him and try to get behind him.

The fissure move from phase one is also back. However, this time, instead of using his axe, Hoarah hits the ground with the two hands in sequence, causing two shockwaves. After a few seconds, he pulls his hands creating an explosion in a circle around him.

Hoarah has two new moves in this second phase that you should be careful with. The first is a scream attack that can destabilize you and is followed by a powerful sequence of attacks.
The other move is a massive AoE attack that he starts using once low on health. You know he is about to use this ability because he raises one of his feet – similar to how he does before the stomp attacks – but has both arms raised.

This pose precedes two shockwaves that cover a large part of the arena and also lift spikes from the ground around his body. Once you see he is going to use this ability, run and try to roll the moment he hits the ground sending the shockwave.
With that done, we’re on the home straight. You can now enter the Erdtree and face Elden Ring’s final encounter, which is made of two boss fights in sequence. First, you face Radagon of the Golden Order. Once that fight is over, you’ll fight the Elden Beast.
What secret strategies can help me finally defeat Hoarah Loux in Elden Ring
To finally defeat Hoarah Loux in Elden Ring, consider these secret strategies:
-
Master Dodging and Positioning: Hoarah Loux’s attacks are aggressive and often AoE-based. Focus on dodging his moves, especially his leg stomps and grabs, by rolling toward his sides or behind him to avoid follow-ups and create openings for light attacks. Running backward after his first attack in the second phase can bait misses and provide free hits.
-
Use Bleed and Slash Damage: Hoarah Loux has lower resistance to slash-type weapons and is susceptible to bleed buildup. Equipping the Bloody Slash Ash of War and using weapons that cause bleed can whittle down his health effectively.
-
Summon Allies: Completing Nepheli Loux’s questline allows you to summon her for the fight, which helps divert Hoarah’s attention and makes the battle more manageable. Spirit Ash summons are also recommended to tank hits while you deal damage from behind.
-
Apply Scarlet Rot: If you have enough Arcane and Faith stats, use the Rotten Breath Incantation or Scarlet Aeonia to inflict Scarlet Rot, causing gradual damage over time.
-
Stay Mobile in Phase Two: Hoarah Loux becomes more aggressive and uses grabs and tiger strikes. Keep moving constantly to avoid being caught and learn the timing of his delayed grab attacks, sometimes opting to run away rather than risk a grab.
-
Consider Ranged Sorcery: Using powerful sorceries like Rock Sling or Comet Azur with the Hidden Cerulean Tear (to reduce FP consumption) can allow you to damage Hoarah Loux from a distance while your summons keep him occupied. Maintain distance from your summon to avoid AoE damage hitting both of you.
-
Manage Stamina and Equipment Load: Avoid fat rolling by optimizing your endurance and using talismans like Great-Jar’s Arsenal to equip heavier armor without sacrificing mobility, ensuring you can dodge effectively.
Combining these tactics-dodging smartly, exploiting bleed and slash damage, summoning help, and using status effects-will significantly increase your chances of overcoming Hoarah Loux’s punishing fight.
How can I time my dodges to avoid Hoarah Loux’s hardest moves
To time your dodges effectively against Hoarah Loux’s hardest moves, focus on recognizing his attack cues and matching your dodge direction and timing accordingly:
-
Lunge Grabs:
-
When he lunges with arms crossed like an “X,” roll backwards just as he is about to touch you.
-
For the lunge where he pushes off the ground and hovers momentarily, roll forward at the last moment before contact.
-
-
Standing Uppercut Grab:
When he puts both arms down and swings them up, simply roll to the side to avoid the swing. -
Single-Arm Grab:
This slower, one-handed grab can be avoided by strafing under his armpit or rolling to his left (your right). It’s also highly punishable if you learn to bait it. -
Running Grab with Arms Crossed:
Roll backwards just as he reaches you to avoid the claw-like attack and position yourself for a counterattack.
Additional tips:
-
Avoid locking on to improve your movement freedom and make dodging easier.
-
Jump dodging is effective against his ground slams and shockwave attacks; time your jump so you are airborne as the attack lands.
-
Remember, invincibility frames only last during the roll animation, so dodge just as the attack is about to hit, not too early or late.
-
Practice releasing the dodge button at the right moment rather than holding it to avoid delay in your roll.
Mastering these timing nuances and directional dodges against each of Hoarah Loux’s grab variants will help you evade his hardest attacks and create openings for counterattacks.
