Struggling to haul all your hard-earned loot through the perilous world of Dragon’s Dogma 2? If your inventory is bursting at the seams and every step feels heavier, you’re not alone. Fortunately, there are clever ways to expand your carrying capacity-if you know where to look and what to eat. From glowing beetles to powerful rings, here’s how you can lighten your load and make room for even more treasures on your adventure.
Frustratingly, your character’s carrying capacity isn’t great, and you’re quickly going to fill up your inventory and become overburdened, which decreases your movement speed and makes your stamina drain faster. This is a problem since your gear – your weapons and armor – eat up a lot of that encumbrance before you even pick anything up.
Our Dragon’s Dogma 2 guide will explain how to increase your inventory size, and additionally break down how the max encumbrance system works.
How to increase your inventory size in Dragon’s Dogma 2
To increase your inventory size in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you’ll need to focus on boosting your character’s maximum carrying capacity, as the game limits how much you can carry based on weight rather than item count. The most effective method is to find and consume Golden Trove Beetles, which are scattered throughout the world and glow at night-each beetle permanently increases your maximum encumbrance by 0.15 kg for both you and your main pawn. Additionally, equipping special rings like the Ring of Accrual, Ring of Triumph, or Ring of Profusion can provide significant carry weight bonuses; some of these are available for purchase or as rewards for turning in Seeker’s Tokens. Your character’s physical build also plays a role: larger, heavier characters can naturally carry more, and choosing the Fighter vocation grants a higher base carrying capacity. Finally, unlocking and equipping the Thew augment from the Fighter vocation will further boost your limit, allowing you to haul even more loot on your adventures.
We’ll go into more detail below, but to get the highest carrying capacity in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you’ll need to:
- Make the largest character you can in the character creator.
- Choose the Fighter vocation.
- Eat a lot of bugs – namely, Golden Trove Beetles.
- Equip a Ring of Accrual (or two).
- Unlock the Thew augment from the Fighter vocation.
Let’s break down why each of these increases your max encumbrance and, therefore, your inventory size.
Make yourself jacked in the character creator
When creating your character in Dragon’s Dogma 2, your choices in the character creator directly impact your inventory size and carrying capacity. By making your Arisen taller, bulkier, and more muscular using the body size and muscle mass sliders, you’ll start the game with a higher encumbrance limit-up to around 33kg-allowing you to carry more loot, weapons, and gear from the outset. If you want to maximize your inventory space right from the beginning, don’t be shy about cranking those physical attributes to the max and making yourself absolutely jacked in the character creator. This approach gives you a practical advantage on your adventure, letting you hoard more treasures before needing to offload or manage your inventory.

Your character’s starting max encumbrance is actually determined during character creation. A character’s (the same math applies to both the Arisen and pawns) body weight determines carrying capacity. If you’re looking to max out your carrying capacity right away, make yourself the biggest character you can.
The character creator sliders that control things like height, muscles, and upper and lower body size are the biggest contributors here. Make your character tall (the slider maxes out at 215 cm) and generally big with the upper and lower body size sliders. Muscles don’t change your carrying capacity directly, but you can add a few kilograms to your body weight by maxing them out. There’s a little rounding involved in the math, so you’ve got some wiggle room for aesthetics if you want it.
Muscles don’t increase your max encumbrance on their own, but they do increase your body weight. According to our testing, race (whether you play as a human versus beastren), gender presentation, and age don’t seem to have any effect on your carrying capacity.
Body weight also determines how quickly your stamina recharges (higher body weight equals slower recharge), so it’s a bit of a tradeoff between carrying more and getting winded easier. Meanwhile, how close your inventory weight is to your max encumbrance affects how fast your stamina drains.
All told, you can get your starting max encumbrance up to about 33 kg. And then you can get a little more (or less) depending on your vocation.
Choose the Fighter vocation
Choosing the Fighter vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a strategic choice for players looking to maximize their inventory size early in the game. The Fighter offers the highest base carrying capacity among the starting vocations, giving a slight but valuable edge in how much you can carry compared to other classes like Rangers, Thieves, or Mages. This vocation excels in melee combat with sword and shield, providing both offensive power and defensive resilience. Additionally, the Fighter’s Rank 6 augment, Thew, further increases maximum encumbrance, allowing you to carry even more items as you progress. This combination of higher base capacity and augment benefits makes the Fighter an ideal choice for players who want to manage larger inventories while maintaining strong frontline combat capabilities.
Your vocation also contributes (a little) to your max encumbrance. Of the starting vocations, Fighters can carry the most, Archers and Thieves come second, and Mages can carry the least. This only adds (or subtracts) a few kilograms, but that can be a big difference.
This actually changes your max encumbrance when you change vocations at any point. If you head to a Vocation Guild, even many hours in, and change vocations from Mage to Fighter, your max encumbrance will increase. If you switch from Fighter to Thief, it will decrease.
You can only switch vocations at a Vocation Guild or some inns. If you want to increase your max encumbrance without changing vocations, you’ll have to try something else, like.
Eat Golden Trove Beetles
Eating Golden Trove Beetles is a key way to increase your carry capacity in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Each Golden Trove Beetle you consume permanently raises your maximum encumbrance by 0.15 kg, and this benefit also applies to your main pawn, effectively doubling its impact. There are 82 beetles scattered across the game world, often found glowing on tree trunks, especially visible at night. While the individual increase may seem small, collecting and eating many beetles adds up to a significant boost, allowing you to carry more loot, weapons, and crafting materials without slowing down. It’s best to consume them immediately rather than hoard them, as they take up inventory space themselves. You can also buy them from certain vendors, but hunting them in the wild is more cost-effective.
As you explore the world of Dragon’s Dogma 2, you might spot (or your pawns might spot) oversized, glowing beetles – you’ll usually see them on tree trunks. These Golden Trove Beetles are a consumable item.

If you choose one in your inventory and eat it, your max encumbrance will increase by 0.15 kg. That’s not much, but you’ll find dozens of the beetles as you progress, and that adds up.
Equip a Ring of Accrual (or two)
Equipping a Ring of Accrual is one of the most effective ways to immediately boost your inventory size in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Each Ring of Accrual increases your maximum encumbrance by 5kg, and since you can wear one on each hand, equipping two rings grants a total of 10kg of additional carrying capacity. These rings can be found throughout the world, purchased from certain vendors, or obtained as quest rewards, so it’s worth regularly checking merchants and your equipment menu for new options. By outfitting yourself with one or two Rings of Accrual, you’ll be able to carry more loot, gear, and supplies without becoming over-encumbered, making exploration and adventuring much more manageable.

You’ll get a bigger boost to your max encumbrance from a piece of equipment called a Ring of Accrual. Equipping one of these rings will increase your max encumbrance by a flat 5 kg. And you can equip one on both your right and left hands to get a 10 kg bump.
Rings of Accrual can be bought from some vendors – the traveling merchant in Melve has one, as does the armorer in Vernworth – for 6,500 gold. A much cheaper way to get one early is to complete the “Ornate Box” quest. That one only costs you 800 gold and some of your time.
Unlock and enable the Thew augment
To unlock the Thew augment in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you must first reach Rank 6 in the Fighter vocation. Once you attain this rank, visit a Vocation Guild and spend 1,800 Discipline Points (Dcp) to acquire and equip Thew. After equipping Thew, your character’s maximum carry weight increases by a flat 10 kg, allowing you to carry more items and reduce the risk of becoming over-encumbered as you explore and loot. Notably, once unlocked, Thew can be equipped even if you switch to a different vocation, making it a versatile option for boosting inventory capacity throughout your adventure.
Augments are vocation skills you’ll unlock as you gain ranks in each vocation. Unlike weapon skills, augments can be used with other vocations.

The rank 6 Fighter augment, Thew, increases your max encumbrance. Once you unlock it in the Fighter vocation, you can apply it to your character regardless of which vocation you’re playing as.
What secret tricks can I use to carry more in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Secret Tricks to Carry More in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Golden Trove Beetles
-
Scour forests and rocky areas for glowing Golden Trove Beetles. Consuming each beetle permanently increases your and your main pawn’s carry capacity by 0.15 kg. These beetles are easy to spot at night and can add up significantly over time, so make a habit of collecting and using them whenever you find one.
Equip Special Rings
-
Equip the Ring of Accrual (+5 kg) and Ring of Profusion (+10 kg) to boost your maximum encumbrance. The Ring of Accrual is available early from Runne’s Apothecary in Melve or as a quest reward, while the Ring of Profusion can be found in chests, purchased, or earned by turning in Seeker’s Tokens.
Unlock the Thew Augment
-
Level up the Fighter vocation to unlock the Thew augment, which increases your max carry weight by 10 kg. Once unlocked, you can equip this augment even if you switch to another vocation.
Distribute Weight Among Pawns
-
Use your main pawn and support pawns as pack mules by transferring heavy items to them. This is a quick way to lighten your own load without leaving valuables behind.
Store Items Frequently
-
Regularly deposit excess items and crafting materials at inns or your home storage to keep your inventory manageable and prevent spoilage of perishable goods.
Level Up for Natural Increases
-
Your carry capacity increases slightly at certain level milestones, so simply progressing through the game will gradually let you haul more loot.
Character Creation Tip
-
Heavier and larger characters naturally have a higher carry weight, so consider this when creating your Arisen if you want a long-term advantage.
Pawn Specializations
-
Teach your main pawn the Hawker Specialization, or hire a guest pawn with this skill. Hawker pawns can sell excess items on the go, helping you manage weight during long treks.
By combining these strategies-especially hunting for Golden Trove Beetles and equipping the right rings-you’ll be able to explore further and loot more without constantly worrying about being over-encumbered.
How effective are the Ring of Accrual and Ring of Profusion for carry limits
The Ring of Accrual and Ring of Profusion are both highly effective for increasing your carry limits in Dragon’s Dogma 2. The Ring of Accrual increases your maximum encumbrance by 5 kg, while the Ring of Profusion boosts it by 10 kg. Since you can equip up to two rings at once, wearing both simultaneously provides a combined increase of 15 kg to your carry weight, which is a significant advantage for managing loot and supplies on long journeys. These rings have no vocation restrictions, so any character or pawn can benefit from them. Overall, they are practical and valuable accessories for any adventurer looking to maximize inventory space.
