Every weapon in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is more than just a tool for battle-it’s a hidden collectible, a key to mastering unique abilities, and sometimes, a reward for your curiosity. From purple-glowing treasure chests tucked away in story chapters to secret vendor shelves and mini-game triumphs, our chapter-by-chapter guide reveals where to find every weapon for every character-so you never miss out on the arsenal that could turn the tide of your adventure.
While some are locked behind some side content, you’ll find a majority of them as you crawl through caverns and abandoned reactors, so you’ll specifically want to keep your eye out for purple glowing chests. We get into that more below.
In our Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth guide, we explain which weapons are the best to use and tell you how to level up weapons, plus cover all weapon locations listed by chapter.
What is the best weapon in FF7 Rebirth?
The best weapon in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth depends on the character you’re playing, as each has a unique “ultimate” weapon that stands out for its abilities and stats. For Cloud, the Slipstream Saber is considered his best weapon, offering the powerful Counterstance ability, which lets him retaliate against attacks while increasing stagger and reducing damage taken-though it’s only available late in the game. Tifa’s top weapon is the Jarngriepr, prized for its True Strike ability that excels at boosting stagger damage in close combat. Red XIII’s Brinsingamen is highly valued for both its offensive stats and its Reaper Touch ability, which becomes deadlier as his HP drops. Yuffie’s Crystalline Cross is preferred for its Banishment skill, which scales damage with ATB usage and adapts to different elemental types. Ultimately, while all weapons can be viable when fully upgraded, these late-game weapons are widely regarded as the best for maximizing each character’s potential in both offense and utility.
There isn’t really a definitive answer to this, since weapons have different stats and specialties. It mainly relies on how you like to play. For the most part, later weapons will be better than the earlier ones, especially since later weapons allow you to equip more materia.
For example, the second-to-last weapon for Cloud, the Igneous Saber, has significantly higher physical attack than the rest of his weapons, but has a lower magic attack stat in return. Though this is my weapon of preference for Cloud (since I don’t run much magic on him), somebody who wants to fling spells around may opt for Cloud’s third weapon, the Rune Blade, which has a really high magic attack.
That is all to say that all of these weapons have further customization added to them in “weapon skills,” so it’s really up to you. If you feel yourself dying a ton, you may want a weapon that beefs up HP. If you’re a master of counters and parries, you may want a weapon that has a skill that beefs up damage for Cloud’s punisher mode.
How to level up weapons in FF7 Rebirth
In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, weapons level up by accumulating SP (Skill Points), which you earn primarily by leveling up your character or by collecting character manuscripts found throughout the game. As your SP increases, so does your weapon level, unlocking new stat boosts, skills, and additional materia slots for each weapon. To upgrade a weapon, access the Upgrade Weapons screen from the main menu, where you can allocate SP to unlock passive bonuses and equipable weapon skills. Weapon proficiency is increased separately by using a weapon’s unique ability in combat; once maxed, you can use that ability with any weapon of the same type. For convenience, you can also enable auto-upgrade settings to let the game automatically assign weapon skills based on your preferred playstyle.
The idea of “leveling up your weapons” is kind of misleading, given that the weapons and their levels have their own “upgrade weapons” menu screen. Unlike Final Fantasy 7 Remake, there’s no way to separately level up individual weapons using a skill tree. Rather, each character has a “weapon level” that’s just separate from their regular levels. All the SP you gain from leveling goes towards one huge skill tree, so there’s nothing you really have to worry about here.
Just keep battling and your weapon level will go up.

As you increase your weapon level, you’ll unlock new “weapon skills,” which may increase stats, increase stagger from individual skills, or add other useful perks. You can equip these both in the “weapons and materia” and “upgrade weapons” screen. Different weapons have different weapon skills, so you’ll want to try out a bunch of different combinations to see what suits your playstyle.
Where to find all weapons in FF7 Rebirth by chapter
Weapons in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are primarily found inside distinctive purple-glowing treasure chests scattered along the main story path, with many appearing in locations you visit as part of the narrative. Some weapons are also awarded for completing specific side quests, mini-games, or Odd Jobs, while others can be purchased from weapon vendors in major settlements if you miss them during your initial playthrough-though buying them tends to be expensive. Each character has seven unique weapons, and none are permanently missable, as all can be obtained later via vendors or Chapter Select after reaching Chapter 13. To help players collect every weapon efficiently, guides present weapon locations in the order they become available by chapter, detailing where to look during each stage of the story-ensuring you never miss an upgrade as you progress.
You can find nearly every weapon in the game in a glowing purple chest, but each character other than Cloud has a weapon that you’ll need to get through another means, whether it’s a side quest, minigame, or combination of both.

Some purple chests can be pretty easy to miss, but have no fear. Once you clear that part of the game, you can go back and buy the missed weapon from a shopkeeper in any of the major areas (like Gongaga Village or Kalm) for gil. (Note that we say shopkeeper, not vending machine.) This only applies to weapons that aren’t locked behind minigames and side quests. You will have to still complete the side quest or beat the minigame high score if you want those weapons – there’s no way around it.
Each character except Cait Sith will also get their last weapon inside the final dungeon of the game, the Temple of the Ancients, so if you’re still missing a weapon before the point of no return, this is why.
Below we list all the weapons in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, along with where to find them, their abilities, and what chapter you get them in. The table is also sortable, so you can find the weapon you want quickly.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth features 49 unique weapons spread across its seven playable characters, with each character able to wield seven distinct weapons throughout the adventure. Weapons are primarily found in purple-glowing treasure chests along the main story path, but some can also be earned by completing side quests, mini-games, or purchased from weapon vendors in major settlements. While none of the weapons are permanently missable-thanks to chapter select and vendor availability-finding them as you progress through each chapter is the most cost-effective way to build your arsenal. Each weapon comes with its own special ability, which can be mastered and then used with other weapons, allowing for deep customization and strategic flexibility as you upgrade and equip your party.

Which chapter reveals the most powerful weapons in FF7 Rebirth
The most powerful weapons in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are primarily revealed in Chapter 9 and the late-game Temple of the Ancients, which is accessed near the end of the story. For example, Red XIII’s Golden Collar, a top-tier weapon with high attack and magic stats, is found in the Gongaga Reactor in Chapter 9, while his ultimate weapon, the Brinsingamen, is located in the Temple of Ancients during the late game. Similarly, Cloud’s best weapon, the Slipstream Saber, and Tifa’s Jarngriepr are unlocked near the game’s conclusion in the Temple of the Ancients area. This late-game chapter reveals many of the ultimate weapons with powerful abilities, making it the key chapter for obtaining the strongest gear.
Which chapter introduces the ultimate weapons for Red XIII and others
The ultimate weapons for Red XIII and other characters in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are introduced in the late game, typically after major story milestones. For Red XIII, his ultimate weapon, the Limited Moon, becomes available when you revisit Cosmo Canyon after completing the Raid on Midgar mission, which is late in the story. Similarly, other characters’ ultimate weapons are generally unlocked in the final chapters or through late-game side quests, often after significant plot events such as the Raid on Midgar or after returning to key locations like Cosmo Canyon and Rocket Town.
