Genshin Impact Through the Looking Glass Quest Walkthrough and Hidden Mirror Locations

Guides

Deep beneath the ruins of Fontaine, a hidden world quest awaits-but only those who dare to seek out all six mysterious mirrors will unlock the surreal secrets of “Through the Looking Glass” in Genshin Impact.

In this Genshin Impact guide, we’ll walk you through “Through the Looking Glass,” and show you where to find all hidden mirror locations and complete the corresponding looking glass puzzles.

How to start ’Through the Looking Glass’

To start the “Through the Looking Glass” hidden quest in Genshin Impact, you must first complete two prerequisite world quests: “In the Wake of Narcissus” and “Book of Esoteric Revelations.” Only after finishing both will you be able to access the quest, which does not appear in your quest journal even when eligible. Once these requirements are met, your next step is to locate and interact with all six Looking Glass mirrors scattered throughout Fontaine’s Morte region. Each mirror contains a unique puzzle or combat challenge-solving all six will trigger the quest’s progression and lead you to its final stages.

To unlock “Through the Looking Glass,” you need to do the following:

  • Complete the world quest series “In the Wake of Narcissus”
  • Complete the ’Book of Esoteric Revelations’ world quest

Beware that “Through the Looking Glass” is a hidden world quest, so it doesn’t appear in your Journal even if you meet the requirements. Follow the steps below to complete the quest.

All ’Through the Looking Glass’ mirror locations in Genshin Impact

The “Through the Looking Glass” quest in Genshin Impact challenges players to find six hidden Looking Glass mirrors scattered throughout Fontaine’s Morte region. Each mirror serves as a portal to a unique puzzle or combat encounter, and all must be completed to finish the quest. The locations are as follows:

  • Orthant of Souls: The first mirror is inside the Orthant of Souls cave. Teleport to the East Slopes of Mont Automnequi underwater waypoint, move toward the large machine, and head east to find the mirror on the wall.

  • Fort Charybdis Ruins (Wilderness Cavern): The second mirror is near a Vertical Lifting Column in the Fort Charybdis Ruins. Defeat a Rockfond Rifthound after entering.

  • Orthant of Wishes: From the previous location, use the lift to descend to the cave’s basement and find the third mirror in the northern corner, where you’ll face Thundercraven Rifthound Whelps.

  • Orthant of Memory: Teleport to the Morte Region Statue of the Seven, take the western stairs, swim above the Energy Flow mechanism, and turn right to reach the fourth mirror. Combat with Rifthound Whelps awaits inside.

  • Orthant of Persona: The fifth mirror is near the entrance to the Orthant of Persona, accessible from the southern Morte region underwater waypoint. Interact with the mirror and defeat another Thundercraven Rifthound.

  • Tower of Ipsissimus: The final mirror is on the bottom floor of the sunken Tower of Ipsissimus. Swim to the tower, find the hidden mirror behind a wall, and solve the last puzzle to release the fish.

Each mirror location involves guiding a glowing fish through a sunflower painting or defeating enemies to unlock chests and progress the quest. Completing all six mirrors will transport you to the world inside the “Book of Esoteric Revelations,” where the quest concludes.

There are six hidden mirror locations in “Through the Looking Glass,” and all of them are found in Fontaine’s Morte region. Here’s an overview of all mirror locations:

Whenever you find a looking glass, interact with it to enter the other side. Here, you will find yourself in a room with a painting of sunflowers and a small glowing fish. In each looking glass location, there’s something you must do to make the fish swim through the painting. Once that is done, the looking glass location is ’completed’.

The overview below will show you all “Through the Looking Glass” hidden mirror locations in more detail, and explain each painting puzzle.

’Through the Looking Glass’ Mirror Location 1

The first hidden mirror for the “Through the Looking Glass” quest is found inside the Orthant of Souls cave in Fontaine’s Morte region. Start by teleporting to the East Slopes of Mont Automnequi underwater waypoint, then head toward the large machine in the center and continue east. There, you’ll spot the first Looking Glass on the wall. Interact with this mirror to be transported to a mysterious area where you must use a Pyro character to light two torches. Completing this puzzle will cause a red wisp (fish) to enter the sunflower painting, marking your progress for this stage of the quest.

Starting from the nearby Teleport Waypoint, swim down inside the ruins and follow the path until you reach the orthant puzzle. You can see the looking glass location on your left.

After going through the looking glass, light up the torches below the flower painting, using Pyro attacks, and turn off the other four torches using Hydro attacks. This will make the fish swim through the painting.

’Through the Looking Glass’ Mirror Location 2

The second hidden mirror for the “Through the Looking Glass” quest is located deep within the Fort Charybdis Ruins in the Morte Region of Fontaine. To find it, head to the Teleport Waypoint near the northern ruins and enter the large open room. The mirror is situated in front of a Vertical Lifting Column and Eliphas Beam mechanic. Upon interacting with the looking glass, you’ll be transported to a mysterious area where you must defeat a Rockfond Rifthound. Once the enemy is vanquished, a sealed Remarkable Chest will appear-open it to release the golden fish, which will swim through the sunflower painting, marking your progress in the quest.

Go to the nearby Teleport Waypoint and enter the ruins to the north. In the large open room, you can find the looking glass location on your right. Go through the looking glass and be prepared to fight some rifthounds on the other side. Once they’re defeated, the glowing fish will enter the painting.

’Through the Looking Glass’ Mirror Location 3

The third hidden mirror for the “Through the Looking Glass” quest is found in the caves beneath the Fort Charybdis Ruins. To reach it, start from the previous mirror location and take the lift down into the Orthant of Wishes. Head toward the large Energy Flow mechanism in the cave, then descend further using the eastern or northern lift to reach the basement. In the northern corner of this lower area, you’ll spot the third Looking Glass. Interact with the mirror to be transported into a challenge arena where you must defeat three Thundercraven Rifthound Whelps. Once the enemies are defeated, the fish spirit will be released and move into the corresponding sunflower painting, marking your progress in the quest.

Go to the caves beneath the Fort Charybdis Ruins, then take the path to the north. You’ll see the looking glass location on your left. Enter through the looking glass and defeat the large rifthound, which will spawn a ’”emarkable chest.” Open the chest to release the fish, and it will swim through the painting.

’Through the Looking Glass’ Mirror Location 4

Mirror Location 4 is found inside the Orthant of Memory in the Morte Region. To reach it, teleport to the Morte Region Statue of the Seven, then take the western stairs toward the Orthant of Memory. Swim above the Energy Flow mechanism, turn right, and continue swimming toward the non-water wall to discover the Looking Glass. Upon interacting with this mirror, you will be transported to a challenge area where you must defeat several Rifthound Whelps. Successfully clearing the enemies will reward you with an Exquisite Chest and allow the guiding fish to move into the sunflower painting, progressing the quest.

This mirror location is very close to the previous one. First, take the elevator behind the previous looking glass location, then walk down the stairs until you see the room in the picture below.

Take the elevator in front of you (see arrow). This will take you to the looking glass. Defeat the rifthounds in the room behind it to save the little fish.

’Through the Looking Glass’ Mirror Location 5

For Mirror Location 5 in the “Through the Looking Glass” quest, head to the southern Morte region underwater Teleport Waypoint and make your way toward the entrance of the Orthant of Persona. Once inside, look for the Looking Glass in front of the Energy Flow mechanic. Interact with the mirror to be transported into the Book of Revealing world, where you must defeat a Thundercraven Rifthound. Successfully defeating the enemy will reward you with an Exquisite chest and allow the glowing fish to enter the sunflower painting, progressing the quest further.

Go to the nearby Teleport Waypoint and enter the ruins to your right, the “Orthant of Persona” building. Follow the path until you see the looking glass location on your left. Defeat the large rifthound to spawn a chest and open it to free the fish.

’Through the Looking Glass’ Mirror Location 6

The sixth and final Looking Glass is found at the sunken Tower of Ipsissimus in the Morte region of Fontaine. To reach it, fast-travel to the Waypoint above the tower, then dive down to the Bottom Floor entrance. Once inside, head toward the lower part of the area near the central machine. The Looking Glass is hidden behind a wall that only appears when you get close, so carefully explore the surroundings. After interacting with the mirror, navigate through invisible barriers and open the Exquisite Chest to release the fish and complete the puzzle. Freeing the last Red Wisp here will activate the Sunflower Painting and transport you to the Book of Revelation world, marking the completion of all six mirrors required for the quest.

Swim to the sunken Tower of Ipsissimus and enter the lower floor, then swim to the middle of the room and choose “enter.” This will take you further inside the building, where you’ll find the mirror location in the next room, hidden from view behind a wall.

The path to the treasure chest is obstructed by invisible walls, but if you swim low and stick to the right, you’ll be able to reach it. Open the chest to release the fish.

What secrets do the hidden mirror locations reveal in Genshin Impact’s new quest

The hidden mirror (“Looking Glass”) locations in Genshin Impact’s new quest “Through the Looking Glass” reveal surreal, alternate spaces and unlock unique challenges and rewards. Each mirror teleports players to a mysterious location where they must complete specific tasks-such as defeating Rifthounds, solving torch puzzles, or guiding glowing fish-to earn chests and progress the quest.

Interacting with all six mirrors triggers the full “Through the Looking Glass” world quest, which is otherwise hidden and will not appear in your journal until activated. The mirrors are scattered across the new Fontaine area, primarily within the “In the Wake of Narcissus” quest chain, and each interaction adds to the sense of discovery and mystery, revealing hidden story elements and rewarding curious explorers with valuable loot.

What hidden lore or story secrets do the mirrors reveal in the new quest

The hidden mirrors in Genshin Impact’s “Through the Looking Glass” quest do not directly reveal extensive new lore or story secrets in explicit text or dialogue. Instead, they act as gateways to surreal, alternate spaces where players must complete specific puzzles or combat challenges, each linked to guiding a glowing fish to a sunflower-like structure. These interactions are more about atmosphere and environmental storytelling, immersing players in mysterious, dreamlike scenarios that hint at the deeper, mystical aspects of Fontaine’s world.

The mirrors themselves are an exploration mechanic unique to Fontaine, and their main narrative function is to expand the sense of discovery and intrigue within the region. While players do not uncover traditional lore entries or direct plot revelations through the mirrors, the quest and its puzzles subtly reinforce themes of illusion, memory, and the blurred line between reality and reflection-central motifs in Fontaine’s storylines. The true “secret” is the journey through these mirrored worlds, rather than explicit new story beats.
