Joku-u Shrine Guide for Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Walkthrough and Tips

Guides

Hidden high above the Faron region, the Joku-u Shrine challenges players with a mind-bending puzzle that blends motion and precision. This guide reveals how to reach its remote location and solve every step of the Shrine’s clever mechanics for a clean, reward-filled finish.

Our guide will help you find the Joku-u Shrine shrine location, solve its puzzles, and walk you through the “Thunderhead Isles and Dragonhead Island” subquest to collect a chest and Light of Blessing.

When you’re done, our shrine locations page or interactive Hyrule map can direct you toward something else to do.

Joku-u Shrine location at Thunderhead Isles

Joku-u Shrine is located in the Thunderhead Isles, a cluster of floating islands shrouded in storm clouds above Faron. To reach it, travel to the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower and launch into the air, gliding southeast toward the cloud-covered area. Use the islands as stepping stones, relying on Zonai devices like fans or rockets to cross the large gaps. The shrine itself sits on an upper platform hidden within the thick fog, so watch your altitude to avoid falling below the storm layers.

The Joku-u Shrine is found within the Faron Grasslands Sky region, tucked away on the Thunderhead Isles. The exact coordinates are (1375, -3339, 0429).

As our “Find the Fifth Sage” quest guide and Ring Ruins walkthrough outlines, completing Joku-u Shrine is all about the journey. The Ring Ruins challenge is technically inaccessible until you have completed all four Regional Phenomena and completed “Crisis in Hyrule Castle” in full. If you want to get straight to this shrine, we recommend using Recall to find a piece of debris to ride into the sky in order to drop down to the thunderstorm-clouded sky island. Else, follow the bigger quest.

If you did the quest line, you can reach the Thunderhead Isles by way of the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower. Run to the southeastern area of the chain and find a ledge that’s primed for jumping. In the center of Dragonhead, there’s a building with a ledge that will allow you to jump into Joku-u Shrine.

Joku-u Shrine Shrine walkthrough

This shrine challenges players to use the Recall ability to manipulate moving platforms and reach higher areas. Begin by riding the first set of platforms upward, then use Recall to reverse their motion and create a path. Solve the timing puzzle to cross rotating structures, and use the bow to hit the distant switch that opens the final gate. Inside the last chamber, collect the chest and continue to the altar to complete the shrine.

You’ve already done a ton of work to get to Thunderhead Isles. Now…

Joku-usin Shrine walkthrough and rewards

Joku-usin Shrine Overview
Joku-usin Shrine, titled “Proving Grounds: Short Circuit,” is located on the Thunderhead Isles in the Faron Grasslands Sky region of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Reaching it requires navigating a thunderstorm, often after clearing it via the “Regional Phenomena” quest in Faron.

Access Method

Launch from Popla Foothills Skyview Tower southwest into the storm or start from Joju-u-u Shrine near Lakeside Stable, using Recall on sky blocks and gliding while wearing shock-resistant gear. On the island below the shrine, build a rail cart with wooden planks and a fan: form a T-shape, place it on the rails, activate the fan to propel forward, then use Ascend through the floor midway when under the shrine’s ceiling.

Combat Walkthrough

Inside, all gear is unequipped; grab wooden sticks from the left shelf. Proceed to grab the Shock Emitter near the opposite door, fuse it to a stick for electric attacks, and defeat ground-level Soldier Constructs-lure them onto the central metal plate for chain shocks. Use Ascend to reach elevated archers, shoot Shock Fruit fused arrows at their metal platforms to electrocute them, then clear remaining foes to open the gate.

Rewards

Open the chest for an Electro Elixir, then claim the Light of Blessing at the altar for use toward Heart Containers or Stamina Vessels.

How to clear Thunderhead Isles storm for access

Joku-usin Shrine and Joku-u Shrine on Dragonhead Island require clearing the Thunderhead Isles storm for safe access in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This storm obscures visibility and poses electrocution risks until resolved via the main questline.

Prerequisites

Complete all four Regional Phenomena quests (Fire, Water, Wind, Lightning Temples) and report to Purah at Lookout Landing to unlock “Regional Phenomena.” Finish the subsequent mini-dungeon in Hyrule Castle to trigger “Find the Fifth Sage,” leading to “Secret of the Ring Ruins” at the Ring Ruins near Kakariko Village.

Acquire Charged Armor

Follow quest markers to Dracozu Lake (follow the river resembling a dragon):

  • Charged Shirt: First ruins at (0980, -2691, 0007); break rocks with Bomb Flowers or hammer.

  • Charged Trousers: Second ruins at (0968, -2801, 0007).

  • Charged Headdress: Third ruins at (0686, -2743, 0014); clear vines and enemies inside.

Equip the full Charged Armor set for shock resistance.

Clear the Storm

Head to the final ruins altar (downriver past Lizalfos ambushes). Place a Zonai Charge on the altar to trigger a cutscene, permanently dispelling the Thunderhead Isles thunderstorm and revealing Dragonhead Island, Joku-usin Shrine, and Joku-u Shrine.
