Soaring off a cliff with a hang glider is one of the most thrilling ways to cross the island in Sons of the Forest. But before you can glide across oceans and mountain peaks, you’ll need to track down where these rare wings are hidden-and getting to them is half the challenge.
Hang glider locations in Sons of the Forest
Hang gliders appear at multiple spots across Sons of the Forest’s map, mainly on high cliffs and mountain ridges. One sits on a snowy cliff edge near two red tents in the southwest mountains overlooking the forest below. Others occupy the snowy mountain biome, such as an abandoned camp past a cave, a western peak cliff, a central cannibal camp, and the northern tip. Additional frames perch near a fang-shaped river ridge, a northwestern ocean overlook west of the shotgun site, a northern black tent camp inside treeline, an eastern cliff south of the large snowy mountain river, and a ridge above the golf course cannibal camp.
There are numerous hang glider locations in Sons of the Forest. We currently know of four locations, but there’s more that we haven’t found yet. Check out the image gallery below to see the hang glider locations.

Our map doesn’t have the locations of every hang glider in Sons of the Forest, but it’ll be updated once we find them all. If you’re looking for other hang gliders, we recommend that you search in areas with high elevation like cliffsides and the mountain.
How to use the hang glider in Sons of the Forest
Pick up the hang glider from its location and carry it to a high cliff or mountain edge. Jump off while holding it, and it deploys after a brief fall. Push forward to dive and speed up, pull back to climb and slow down, or strafe left and right to steer; a green circle shows your straight path for maximum airtime. Aim for open ground to land safely, avoiding trees that cause early drops.

The hang glider returns to Sons of the Forest and allows you to easily travel from landmark to landmark, as long as you have a a high point to jump off of.
Once you find a hang glider and equip it, you’ll need an elevated area to jump off of. Your jumping off point must be high enough for you to be in the air for a couple seconds.
In the air, your vertical controls will be inverted; press “W” to descend, which will increase your speed, and press “S” to ascend and slow down. Horizontal controls remain the same: “A” to fly left and “D” to fly right.
To land the hang glider, you can either nose dive straight down or press “S” until you slow down to a halt until you eventually reach the ground. You won’t take any fall damage for crash landing onto the ground, but make sure to stray away from any walls or trees because you will fall out of the sky.
How to use hang glider controls and tips for flying
In Sons of the Forest, the hang glider deploys automatically when you jump from a sufficient height, and you control it mid-air with familiar WASD keys while steering like a plane.
Controls
-
Equip and launch: Pick up the glider (it’s not inventory-storable), run and jump off a cliff or high edge-hold jump briefly as you fall for deployment.
-
Steering: Use A/D to bank left/right; W dives forward (pull down for speed); S pitches up to climb or slow; mouse look adjusts view but doesn’t steer.
-
Note: Pitch (W/S) is inverted by default-toggle in settings if it feels off; no dedicated landing button, just glide down gently.
Flying Tips
-
Gain height first: Launch from the highest points (mountains, ridges) and catch updrafts near cliffs or sunny hills for longer flights-avoid flat terrain.
-
Speed management: Dive (W) to build speed for distance, then pull up (S) to glide farther; don’t stall by climbing too steeply at low speed.
-
Land safely: Aim for open areas like beaches or flat snow; drop speed by pitching up near ground, and release (right-click or drop key) to dismount on impact.
-
Practice spots: Use the western mountain ridges-short jumps to learn controls before long ocean glides; combine with zip-lines for hybrid travel.
Hang glider landing techniques and common mistakes
In Sons of the Forest, hang glider landings rely on controlled gliding into open terrain, as there’s no dedicated landing button-aim for flat spots like beaches or snowfields.
Landing Techniques
Approach by diving (W key) to build speed over obstacles, then pitch up (S key) early to bleed velocity and enter a shallow glide 20-50m above ground.
Once near touchdown (5-10m up), pull up firmly (hold S) for a gentle “stall” that drops you softly; release the glider with right-click or drop (G key) on impact to avoid dragging.
Prioritize wind-facing approaches if possible (check flags or trees), and use short final turns over clearings to align straight-practice on low ridges first.
Common Mistakes
-
High-speed crashes: Failing to pitch up soon enough, slamming into terrain at full dive speed.
-
Stalls too early: Climbing (S) prematurely at low altitude, losing lift and tumbling.
-
Rough terrain picks: Aiming for sloped hills, trees, or water instead of flats, causing flips or instant drops.
