All attributes in Avowed

In Avowed, there are six core attributes that shape your character’s abilities and gameplay style: Might, Constitution, Dexterity, Perception, Intellect, and Resolve. Might increases your damage output and carrying capacity; Constitution boosts your maximum health and resistance to poison and bleeding; Dexterity affects your attack and action speed, including maneuvers like parkour; Perception raises your critical hit chance and effective range with ranged weapons; Intellect governs your maximum essence for magical abilities and elemental resistances; and Resolve enhances your stamina and the efficiency of your second wind revival. Players start with a set number of points to distribute among these attributes during character creation, with the option to respec later for a gold cost. As you level up, you gain additional attribute points to further customize your build according to your preferred combat style and role in the game.

There are six attributes in Avowed. They affect the following stats:

  • Might: Max damage and carrying capacity
  • Constitution: Max HP and resistance to poison or bleed damage
  • Dexterity: Attack speed and “action speed” (things like parkour)
  • Perception: Critical hit chance and maximum range (distance for ranged weapons)
  • Intellect: Max essence (your magic ability gauge) and elemental resistance (fire, frost, and shock damage)
  • Resolve: Max stamina and second wind efficiency (how much health you have on revive)

When making a new character, you’ll get ten points to distribute how you see fit. You can assign a max of three points per attribute.

Note that you’re not locked into your choices for the full game. You’ll earn one attribute point per level-up for the first 10 levels, and then an additional attribute point every alternating level after that. You can also respec your attributes at any time in exchange for gold (though note that the cost gets more expensive the more you level up).

Additionally, some equipment can boost your attribute points, as can regional collectibles called god totems. Certain food and beverage items also increase your stats for temporary periods when consumed. And if you’re looking for permanent increases, you can turn to your party members. Best attributes to pick in Avowed

The best attributes to pick first in Avowed are Might, Perception, and Resolve. Might is essential as it increases your overall damage output and carrying capacity, which is crucial for managing inventory weight. Perception boosts your critical hit chance and the effective range of ranged weapons, making it valuable for both combat and dialogue options. Resolve enhances your maximum stamina and the efficiency of Second Wind, allowing you to recover health upon taking lethal damage, which is particularly helpful in tougher fights. While Constitution, Dexterity, and Intellect have their uses, they tend to be more situational or build-specific, with Intellect mainly benefiting mage builds and Dexterity providing less noticeable improvements. Players can reallocate attribute points as they level up, allowing flexibility in customizing their character’s strengths.

Your exact attribute point allocation is largely up to your playstyle and role-playing proclivities. That said, we’d suggest putting more points in Might, Perception, and Resolve, with less of a focus on Constitution, Dexterity, and Intellect.

Might, Perception, and Resolve are important through the entirety of Avowed. Constitution, Dexterity, and Intellect are all helpful situationally, but not across the board. Let’s break it down.

The damage boost you get from Might is minimal, but if you’ve played any game of this ilk, you’ll know that carrying as much stuff as you can (and then selling it as soon as you can) is pretty much the backbone of the economy.

You’ll run into skill checks for all attributes in conversations, but Perception, in our experience, tends to pop up more frequently than the rest.

Resolve, meanwhile, increases how many hits you can land on enemies before retreating – not just with melee weapons but also with ranged weapons, like bows, guns, and wands.

The HP boost from Constitution is no doubt appealing, but between equipment and class abilities, there plenty of other opportunities to increase your max health. If you’re planning on running with a traditionally “rogue”-ish build, Dexterity is helpful, but the benefits you experience per attribute point are so marginal as to barely be perceptible. And lastly, Intellect is essential if you’re a mage, but next to useless if you’re not. To compensate for the lack of elemental resistance, you can just do what the 18th-century doctors recommend: Drink some grog.


Which attribute should I prioritize to dominate early in Avowed

To dominate early in Avowed, you should prioritize investing in Might, as it increases your overall damage output and carrying capacity, making your attacks more powerful and allowing you to carry more loot. Following Might, Constitution and Resolve are valuable for boosting your survivability by increasing health and stamina, which are crucial for tanking and sustaining in combat. While Perception enhances critical hit chance and ranged weapon effectiveness, it is generally a lower priority early on since gear often provides bonuses to it. Thus, focusing first on Might, then Constitution and Resolve, will give you a strong early advantage in combat and endurance.

Many guides recommend investing at least five to seven points into Constitution early on to ensure you can withstand enemy attacks, especially on higher difficulties where surviving hits is critical.

However, while Constitution boosts health and resistances, it is often advised to prioritize Might, Perception, and Resolve first for overall effectiveness throughout the game. Constitution and Resolve come next in priority because they improve health and stamina, which are essential for blocking, tanking, and stamina management. So, Constitution is crucial for survivability early, but balancing it with other attributes like Might and Resolve will yield the best results.
