Guides

Trapped at the bottom of the Arcane Tower with the elevator refusing to move? Here’s how to power it up, trace its hidden connections, and restore the lift that guards one of Baldur’s Gate 3’s most mysterious strongholds.

Read on to find out how to fix the elevator and learn what mysteries await you in the Arcane Tower’s other floors in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Arcane Tower location in BG3

The Arcane Tower stands on an island in the Underdark, reachable by boat from the beach near the Sussur tree grove. Players spot it after clearing Reithwin Tollhouse or exploring the northwestern Underdark area. Approach the base where four Sussur Blooms grow around the structure-interact with one to pick it up. This item powers the broken elevator inside, granting access to upper floors filled with magical experiments and the formidable arcane turrets.

The Arcane Tower can be found in the southwestern section of the Underdark. The fastest way to reach the Arcane Tower is by using one of the mushroom rings found inside of Auntie Ethel’s cave. Outside of the tower, there are two Arcane Cannons that will constantly shoot at your party members. They’re particularly weak to Lightning damage, so we recommend that you enter turn-based mode to take them out before they shoot you.

How to fix the elevator in the Arcane Tower in BG3

To fix the elevator in the Arcane Tower, find the four Stool of Hill Giant Strength power generators around the tower’s exterior. Shoot each glowing mushroom cap at their base with a ranged attack or spell to activate them-they turn blue when powered. Return inside and press the button at the console near the elevator shaft. The platform descends from the top floor, ready for use. Watch for nearby enemies like Arcane Turrets that activate during the process.

1. Enter the Arcane Tower and destroy the Arcane Sentries, which are especially weak to Lightning damage.

2. Head to the southern side of the room and open the door to the balcony to find large mushrooms on the side of the building.

3. Jump to the mushrooms and make your way to the next balcony.

4. Go inside to find the Timmask Spores and Tongues of Madness for the “Help Omeluum Investigate the Parasite” quest and the Threadbare Book on the shelves along the western wall. Make sure to read the book as it will be very important later on.

5. Return to the balcony and drop down to the next mushroom, but be careful because you will take a lot of fall damage if you don’t cast Feather Fall on your party.

6. Walk around the corner of the tower and grab one of the glowing Sussur Blooms.

7. Turn around to find a locked door that that has a difficulty check of 15 if you decide to lock pick it or you can break down the door.

8. Head inside and find the Power Generator at the center of the room.

9. Interact with it and place the Sussur Bloom in the empty slot on the right of the combine items menu.

10. Hit the combine button to restore power to the entire Arcane Tower, activating the elevator in the process.

Arcane Tower secret button and rewards

Inside the Arcane Tower, a hidden button can be found near the power source on the lower level, partially concealed behind some furniture. Activating it reveals a secret compartment containing a few valuable items, such as rare scrolls, enchanted gear, and alchemical ingredients. These rewards provide useful enhancements for magic users and add an extra layer of intrigue to the exploration of the tower.

Before you ascend all the way to the top floor, make sure to read every single book in the Arcane Tower. The text in the books will provide you with more dialogue options when you speak to Bernard on the top floor of the tower.

The most important book to interact with is the Threadbare Book from step 4, as it unlocks the “How can I trust?…” dialogue option, which will lead to Bernard giving you a Guiding Light ring. This ring will unlock a secret button on the elevator that takes you to the basement of the tower, which has more Tongues of Madness, Timmask Spores, scrolls, and a Staff of Arcane Blessing.

Where to find Sussur Bloom for Arcane Tower generator in BG3

Sussur Bloom grows exclusively in the Underdark near the Arcane Tower. The closest and most convenient spot for powering the generator is at the base of the tower.

Nearest Location

From the Arcane Tower entrance, head left along the ledge past the cannons to spot large mushrooms. Jump down them counterclockwise around the tower’s exterior balconies to reach the garden area at the bottom behind the tower-avoid fall damage with Feather Fall or Misty Step. A small glowing blue Sussur Tree grows here with 2 Sussur Blooms ready to pick.

Picking Tips

Approach on a non-spellcaster; the Blooms emit an antimagic field disabling spells and magic items while held. Send extras to camp immediately after picking. The nearby locked basement door leads directly to the generator.

Alternate Source

For more Blooms (up to 4), visit the Giant Sussur Tree northwest near Myconid Grove at coordinates X:-23, Y:-141 (Dread Hollow area), guarded by Hook Horrors-best at level 5+. Less ideal for the tower since it’s farther away.

How to use Sussur Bloom in Arcane Tower generator BG3

Sussur Bloom powers the Arcane Tower generator in Baldur’s Gate 3 by insertion through the crafting menu, restoring electricity to the entire tower.

Access Generator

Enter the basement through the locked door near the Sussur garden at the tower’s base (pick lock with DC 15 Sleight of Hand or break it). Interact with the inactive Power Generator in the room’s center, surrounded by clues like Withered Blue Petals and a nearby book on Sussur properties.

Combine Items

Select the generator to open the Combine Items menu. Click the empty slot on the right, choose Sussur Bloom from inventory, and press Combine to trigger a cutscene-power activates, turrets deactivate, braziers light up, and elevators function.

Key Warnings

Use a non-caster to carry the Bloom, as its antimagic field silences spells nearby. Pick extras but send spares to camp chest immediately to preserve them in the Underdark.
