Unlocking the Trickster vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is no ordinary feat-it’s a journey into illusions and battlefield control that transforms your gameplay into a masterclass of deception. To wield this hybrid class’s unique smoke and illusion powers, you must seek out Luz at the Reverent Shrine in Battahl, a mysterious oracle who will unlock the secrets of the Trickster for you. Ready to outsmart your foes and command the battlefield with cunning rather than brute force? Here’s how to unlock this elusive vocation and start weaving your tricks.
Trickster isn’t available as one of the game’s starter vocations, so you’ll need to find a special NPC in-game in order to unlock it. In this Dragon’s Dogma 2 guide, how to unlock the Trickster vocation and where you can find Luz to do so.
When can you unlock Trickster in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
You can unlock the Trickster vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 once you reach the Battahl region. To do so, head to the Reverent Shrine located east of the Enoa’Battahl Forest in northern Battahl, where you will meet Luz. Speaking with Luz and exhausting her dialogue will unlock the Trickster vocation for your character. For an additional reward, you can climb to the roof of the shrine to find Luz’s real form, who will then grant you the ultimate skill, Dragon’s Delusion.

You won’t be able to access the Trickster vocation until you can make your way into the nation of Battahl. There are a few ways into Battahl, but it’s a pretty dangerous area for low-level players.
Your best bet here is to work on the main story quests for Dragon’s Dogma 2 until the game directs you to head to Battahl.
How to unlock the Trickster vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2
To unlock the Trickster vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you need to reach the Battahl region and head to the Reverent Shrine, located east of the Enoa’Battahl Forest. There, speak with Luz, an oracle who will teach you the Trickster vocation upon conversation. After unlocking it, you can climb a ladder around the shrine to find Luz’s real form on the roof, where she will reward you with the ultimate skill “Dragon’s Delusion.” This vocation specializes in battlefield control through illusions and support abilities rather than direct damage.

Once you cross into Battahl, getting the Trickster vocation is very simple: Talk to Luz in the Reverent Shrine.
Southeast of the checkpoint gate, east of Enoa’s Battahl Forest, and north of Bakbattahl, you’ll find a small building by the river. That’s the Reverent Shrine. Walk into the shrine and you’ll find an incorporeal woman named Luz just standing there. Talk to her and exhaust her conversation options. When you regain control of your character, you’ll unlock Trickster.
Now, if you’re having trouble finding Luz, don’t worry. Continue to the game’s main questline to the capital city of Bakbattahl. Keep going and you’ll eventually get the “Flickering Shadows” quest, which will ask you to visit a special smith and an oracle. Follow the quest’s steps and it’ll take you directly to Luz.
Note that while “Flickering Shadows” does make finding Luz easier, you don’t need to have the quest to unlock Trickster.

What hidden tricks does the Trickster use to control enemies in Dragon’s Dogma 2
The Trickster vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 uses a variety of hidden tricks centered on illusions and smoke to control enemies and manipulate the battlefield. Key tactics include:
-
Simulacrum Creation: The Trickster conjures an illusory double of themselves using the skill Effigial Incense. This simulacrum draws enemy attention away from the caster, confusing foes and acting as a decoy. It has limited health and disappears if attacked or if the Trickster moves too far away.
-
Possession and Enemy Confusion: Using the Enthralling Aroma skill, the Trickster can possess an enemy with their simulacrum, causing other foes to mistake the possessed target for the Trickster and attack each other, turning enemies against themselves.
-
Smoke Illusions and Distraction: Swinging the censer releases smoke that distracts and taunts enemies, drawing their focus. Advanced skills like Sweeping Shroud and Suffocating Shroud spread smoke over wide areas to attract multiple foes, while Delusory Screen and Illusive Divider create illusory walls that block enemy vision and movement.
-
Buffing Allies: The Trickster can diffuse Aromatic Rally, a smoke that boosts the offensive power of allies and allows them to continue fighting even with depleted health, enhancing party survivability and damage output.
-
Tactical Battlefield Control: Skills like Fickle Floor or Tricky Terrace (mentioned in community tips) allow the Trickster to lure enemies into traps or environmental hazards, such as causing them to fall to their deaths.
Overall, the Trickster excels at deception, misdirection, and controlling enemy behavior rather than dealing direct damage, making it a unique and strategic support class that manipulates the flow of combat through illusions and smoke.
