Find and Grow Mandrakes in Hogwarts Legacy Guide for Mac OS Finder

Guides

In Hogwarts Legacy, the call of mandrakes isn’t just a scream-it’s a seed for power, hidden in Dogweed and Deathcap, waiting for a witch or wizard bold enough to coax its roar into something useful.

In the Harry Potter books and movies, mandrakes are human-like plants that’ll loudly scream and knock out, or even kill, anyone who hears the sound. However, in Hogwarts Legacy, mandrakes are a combat item that will stun and damage nearby enemies. You’ll need mandrakes to learn a few spells from Professor Garlick, but they can be hard to get you hands on. Continue reading to find out where to buy mandrakes and how to grow them in your Room of Requirement.

How to get Mandrakes in Hogwarts Legacy

Purchase Mandrakes for 500 Galleons each from Dogweed and Deathcap on Hogsmeade’s northern edge, marked by a mushroom icon on the map. Buy Mandrake seeds for 800 Galleons there too, then plant them in a small pot on the herbology table inside the Room of Requirement after unlocking it, waiting about ten minutes for growth. Check the Forbidden Forest near a small house east of Jackdaw Floo Flame for three respawning Mandrakes next to a tree and corpse.

There are two ways you can get mandrakes in Hogwarts Legacy, purchasing them from Dogweed and Deathcap or growing them yourself in the Room of Requirement.

Buy from Dogweed and Deathcap

Head to Dogweed and Deathcap, which is located at the northernmost point of Hogsmeade. You can purchase two mandrakes inside for 500 gold galleons each.

Grow in the Room of Requirement

You can also grow mandrakes in any pot size in your Room of Requirement. Buy the mandrake seeds from Dogweed and Deathcap in Hogsmeade for 800 gold galleons, and then interact with any herbology station in your Room of Requirement. Select the mandrake to start growing it, and wait 10 minutes to collect one mandrake.

On your way to Dogweed and Deathcap, you may run into eye chests that can be tricky to open. You might also pass Spintwitches Sporting Needs, which is where you can buy some of the brooms in Hogwarts Legacy.

On numerous occasions in recent years, billionaire and Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling has taken public stances against inclusive transgender laws and trans rights, and has written fiction that has been condemned by LGBTQ organizations for its use of harmful anti-trans tropes. Hate crimes, as well as legislation that denies the rights of trans people, have become more prevalent in the U.K. since 2019, and, more recently, in the United States as well.

According to an FAQ from Hogwarts Legacy publisher Warner Bros. Interactive – the parent company of Avalanche Software, the game’s developer – Rowling is “not directly involved” with the creation of Hogwarts Legacy. Regardless, the sales and widespread attention generated by a AAA video game will benefit Rowling, and that has led some fans to decide not to buy the game. How to grow Mandrakes in Room of Requirement

To grow Mandrakes in the Room of Requirement in Hogwarts Legacy, first unlock the Room via the main quest “The Room of Requirement” and set up a Vivarium with a Potting Table.

Prerequisites

Purchase Mandrake Seeds for 800 Galleons from Dogweed and Deathcap in northern Hogsmeade (or ready-grown Mandrakes for 500 Galleons if you prefer not to wait).
Ensure you have at least one pot (small pots work fine; Mandrakes grow in any size).
Optional: Buy Fertilizer (300 Galleons from Dogweed or The Magic Neep) to plant up to 4 seeds at once for better yields.[ from prior]

Growing Steps

Enter the Room of Requirement, approach a Potting Table, and interact to open the planting menu.
Select an empty pot, choose Mandrake Seeds from your inventory, and plant them-add fertilizer first if using multiple.
Wait about 10 in-game minutes (real-time is similar; fast-forward by exploring or sleeping elsewhere), then return to harvest one fully grown Mandrake per pot.

Tips

Planted Mandrakes yield exactly one each, ideal for quests like Professor Garlick’s assignments.[ from prior]
Pots refill automatically after harvesting, allowing replanting without buying more seeds.
If early in the game, complete the Room setup quest first, as it’s required for potting tables.

How long does it take to grow Mandrakes in Room of Requirement

Mandrakes take about 10 in-game minutes to fully grow in the Room of Requirement’s Potting Table.

Growth Time Details

This timeframe is consistent across sources: plant the seeds in any pot size, then wait roughly 10 minutes before harvesting one mature Mandrake per pot.
Real-world time aligns closely with in-game minutes, though you can speed it up by leaving the area, exploring, or sleeping in a bed elsewhere.
Fertilizer doesn’t alter the timer but allows planting up to four seeds simultaneously for higher yields.

Harvesting Notes

Once ready, interact with the pot to collect the Mandrake-pots become reusable immediately after for replanting.
This quick cycle makes growing efficient for repeated needs, like Professor Garlick’s assignments.
