Kyononis Shrine Walkthrough in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Location Guide

Guides

Hidden beneath Hyrule Field, the Kyononis Shrine tests your mastery of combat mechanics through precise blocks, parries, and counters. This walkthrough reveals the shrine’s exact location and the quickest way to conquer its Combat Training challenge.

We’ll help you get to the Kyononis Shrine and solve its “Combat Training” puzzle, find any treasure chests, and complete the shine to get Light of Blessing. Kyononis Shrine is one of the simpler shrines, with only a few steps covering combat basics of learning to parry, dodge and Flurry Rush.

When you’re done, our shrine locations page or interactive Hyrule map can direct you toward something else to do.

Kyononis Shrine location

Kyononis Shrine is found on the northern side of Hyrule Castle Town Ruins in Central Hyrule, just west of the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower. Its coordinates are roughly (-0204, 0451, 0021), making it one of the easier shrines to reach early in the game. The shrine sits on flat ground, surrounded by ruined structures, and can be approached safely from the south without encountering strong enemies.

The Kyononis Shrine is located in Hyrule Castle’s Central Square at the (-0205, 0451, 0021) coordinates, right by the Hyrule Castle Town Ruins.

Kyononis Shrine walkthrough

Kyononis Shrine focuses on basic combat training using standard weapons and shields. Enter the main chamber and follow the instructions on blocking, dodging, and performing flurry rushes as prompted by the tutorial guides. Each successful move triggers the next lesson, showing how timing affects attack opportunities. After completing all exercises, open the chest containing a Soldier’s Shield, then collect the Light of Blessing from the altar to finish the shrine.

The KyononisShrine and its “Combat Training” trial is fairly simple; it took us less than four minutes to complete. Basically, the shrine tests your ability in combat – how to dodge, attack, and land a backflip. The shrine will guide you through its steps, too, with prompts on screen.

1. Travel down into the shrine’s main room and approach the Construct in the middle. It’ll transform and activate.

2. Dodge the Construct’s attacks using side hops.

3. Once there’s an opening, use the Flurry Rush ability.

4. Practice parrying with a shield to do a Perfect Guard.

5. Do a charged attack by holding down the attack button before letting your sword fly.

6. Defeating the Construct will earn you a Construct bow and a Zonai charge. Grab them.

What are the best weapons for Kyononis Shrine combat

You don’t need “best” weapons for Kyononis Shrine specifically, because the shrine is designed as a tutorial where timing matters far more than damage.

What to use in Kyononis Shrine

  • Use any one-handed sword plus a shield so you can practice side hops, backflips, and Perfect Guard as intended (the shrine even gives you Rusty Broadswords and a Rusty Shield at the start).โ€‹

  • Avoid two-handed weapons or spears here; they make dodging and parrying feel clunkier and don’t help with the moves the shrine is teaching.โ€‹

  • You don’t need strong fused weapons: the construct has low HP and the lesson ends once you successfully perform the required techniques and a charged attack.

If you want an easier time

  • Make sure your shield is equipped and that you stay locked on (hold ZL) the whole fight; that alone makes dodges and parries much easier to time.โ€‹โ€‹

  • If you brought your own gear, pick any light one-handed weapon you’re comfortable with and a durable shield; the extra damage just shortens the last charged-attack phase. The core “best weapon” here is really a fast sword plus a reliable shield so you can focus on learning the combat timings, not on output damage.โ€‹โ€‹

Best fusions for Rusty Broadsword in Kyononis Shrine

Inside Kyononis Shrine, you’re better off using the Rusty Broadsword mostly unfused or with very simple, non-explosive fusions, because the trial is about learning dodges and parries, not dealing big damage.

What actually works best here

  • Leave it unfused: The construct’s HP is low and the shrine ends as soon as you complete the required moves (side hop, backflip, Perfect Guard, charged attack), so base Rusty Broadsword damage is enough.

  • Light, non-chaotic fuses are fine: If you really want to fuse, pick something small and easy to control (like a basic monster horn or a stone) so the weapon still swings predictably and doesn’t obscure your view.โ€‹

  • Avoid explosives or big elements: Bomb Flowers, large elemental ores, or big spiked balls can knock the construct around, break line-of-sight, or kill it too early, cutting practice short.

Example “good” early-game fusions (if you insist)

  • Small monster horn (Bokoblin/Moblin/Construct): Clean damage boost without changing the weapon’s feel; perfect for practicing Flurry Rush and charged attacks.

  • Simple rock or ore chunk: Adds blunt damage and slightly higher power; still doesn’t interfere with timing lessons or visibility.โ€‹

If your goal is to learn combat, think “clear camera and consistent swing” rather than “max attack” – once you’re outside, then you can start putting big monster horns or fancy elemental ores on your swords.
