How do I catch a shiny Vanillite in Pokémon Go?

During the Vanillite Community Day in Pokémon GO, which runs from 2 to 5 p.m. local time, players have a significantly increased chance of encountering a shiny Vanillite, with boosted shiny odds of approximately 1 in 25. To catch a shiny Vanillite, it is best to actively search and catch as many Vanillite as possible during the event. Using Incense can help attract more Vanillite, and quickly tapping each one to check if it is shiny before deciding to catch or flee can save time and Poké Balls. If you miss the event, trading with friends is another way to obtain a shiny Vanillite. Additionally, evolving a shiny Vanillite into Vanillish and then Vanilluxe during the event or until May 4 will grant exclusive moves like Avalanche.

As per old research by the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), Shiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 24, which means that if you keep playing throughout the three-hour window, you should find quite a few shiny Pokémon.

If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, you can pop an Incense, then quickly tap each Vanillite to check for shiny ones, running from any that aren’t shiny. Notably, any Vanillite you’ve already tapped will face where your player is standing, so that should help identify which ones you may have already checked.

What Community Day move does Vanillite’s evolution learn?

During Vanillite’s Community Day in Pokémon GO, evolving Vanillish into Vanilluxe between April 27, 2025, 2 p.m. and May 4, 2025, 10 p.m. local time will grant Vanilluxe the exclusive charged move Avalanche. This Ice-type move is the featured Community Day move and can also be obtained later using an Elite Charged TM if missed during the event window.

If you evolve Vanillish intoVanilluxe starting on April 27 at 2 p.m. until May 4 at 10 p.m. in your local time, it will learn the charged move Avalanche.

If you miss out on evolving it during this period, you will likely be able to evolve it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get Avalanche. If you don’t want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get the move.

How does Vanilluxe do in the meta?

Vanilluxe struggles to find a meaningful role in the current Pokémon GO meta. Despite gaining the charged move Avalanche during Community Day, which significantly improves its damage output, Vanilluxe remains outclassed by many other Ice-type Pokémon due to its poor bulk, limited move pool, and vulnerability to common Fighting, Fire, Rock, and Steel moves. In PvP, even with Avalanche, its win rates are low, and it is often surpassed by its pre-evolution Vanillish, which has better bulk and more effective moves like Ice Beam and Icy Wind. In raids and gym defense, Vanilluxe is generally considered a weak choice compared to stronger Ice types such as Mamoswine or Kyurem. Overall, Vanilluxe is more of a niche or collector’s Pokémon than a competitive meta contender.

Unfortunately, Vanilluxe and its pre-evolutions have no space in any of the high-intensity Pokémon Go content, whether it’s PvE (raids and gyms) or PvP. I don’t recommend investing Stardust into it unless you just really like this Pokémon – in which case, let them (you) eat ice cream.

How do I make the most of Vanillite Community Day?

To make the most of Vanillite Community Day in Pokémon GO, focus on catching as many Vanillite as possible between 2 and 5 p.m. local time to maximize your chances of finding shiny variants, which have about a 1 in 25 encounter rate during the event. Use Incense and Lure Modules activated after the event starts to attract more Vanillite, and stock up on Ultra Balls and Pinap Berries beforehand to aid in catching and candy collection. Take advantage of the 3x catch XP bonus, which can be further boosted with a Lucky Egg, and evolve Vanillish into Vanilluxe during the event or up to a week after to obtain the exclusive Avalanche move. Don’t forget to complete special Field Research tasks for additional encounters and rewards, and enjoy trading with friends at reduced Stardust costs. Lastly, engage with the community and have fun while hunting for shinies and leveling up your Pokémon collection.

The following bonuses will be active during Vanillite Community Day:

  • Triple XP for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled candy for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled chance for level 31 trainers to get XL candy from catching Pokémon
  • Incense lasts three hours
  • Lure Modules lasts three hours
  • Vanillite special photobombs when taking snapshots
  • One additional special trade
  • Stardust cost halved for trading

That said, you should definitely pop a Lucky Egg and an Incense and try to nab some ice cream.

If you can Mega EvolveGlalie or Abomasnow, you’ll score additional Vanillite Candy per catch.

How can I maximize my chances of catching a shiny Vanillite during Community Day

To maximize your chances of catching a shiny Vanillite during Pokémon GO’s Vanillite Community Day, follow these key strategies:

  • Take advantage of the boosted shiny odds of approximately 1 in 25 by actively catching as many Vanillite as possible during the three-hour event window from 2 to 5 p.m. local time.

  • Use Incense and Lure Modules, which last the full event duration, to increase spawn rates around you, and play in areas with many PokéStops to attract more spawns and other players, which further boosts spawn density.

  • Quickly tap on each Vanillite to check if it is shiny; tapped Pokémon orient toward your avatar, helping you keep track of which ones you’ve checked and allowing you to flee non-shiny ones to save Poké Balls for more encounters.

  • Complete the Community Day Timed Research available until May 4, which rewards additional Vanillite encounters with the same boosted shiny rate, extending your shiny hunting opportunities beyond the event hours.

  • Stock up on Ultra Balls and Pinap Berries to maximize catch success and candy gain, and clear Pokémon storage space to accommodate many catches.

  • Consider trading with friends for shiny Vanillite, Vanillish, or Vanilluxe if you miss the event or want to complete your shiny collection.

By combining these tactics-maximizing encounters, using spawn-boosting items, efficiently identifying shinies, and leveraging research tasks and trades-you will significantly increase your odds of securing a shiny Vanillite during Community Day.

How many Vanillite do I need to catch to have a good chance at shiny

To have a good chance of catching a shiny Vanillite during the Community Day event, you should aim to catch as many Vanillite as possible because the shiny odds are boosted to about 1 in 25. Statistically, catching around 25 Vanillite gives you roughly a 63% chance of encountering at least one shiny, but catching more will increase your odds significantly.

Maximizing your catches during the three-hour event window (2 to 5 p.m. local time) by using Incense, Lure Modules, and playing in areas dense with PokéStops will help you encounter more Vanillite and thus more chances for shiny encounters. Additionally, completing the Community Day Timed Research available until May 4 offers further opportunities to catch Vanillite with the same boosted shiny rate beyond the event hours.
