Lumiose City transforms once more as the Mega Dimension opens-bringing new forms, returning favorites, and mysterious challenges that bend the rules of Mega Evolution like never before.
New Mega Evolutions
Several new Mega Evolutions have been introduced, expanding the roster with striking designs and fresh strategic options. Classic species such as Zoroark, Flygon, and Milotic receive new Mega forms that enhance their abilities and typing, giving trainers more depth in team building. Each new transformation is crafted to reflect its Pokémon’s core traits while offering distinct battle mechanics tailored to the Mega Dimension setting.
A ton of Pokémon get new Mega Evolutions, like Mega Raichu X and Y. The Megas that were missing in the base game have also re-appeared (Mega Sceptile, Mega Blaziken, Mega Swampert, Mega Latios, Mega Latias, and Mega Rayquaza).
A few of these (Sceptile, Blaziken, Swampert, and Baxcalibur) are available to those without the DLC since they’re rewards for the Z-A Battle Club, but based on our playthrough, it doesn’t seem like you can get the other new Mega Stones without the DLC.

Hyperspace Missions with a new story
Hyperdrive into uncharted routes as new stories unfold across the Mega Dimension, revealing unexpected alliances, daring rescues, and fresh legends that reshape how trainers chase victory.
Rather than “Main Missions,” the game will branch into “Hyperspace Missions,” which follow the DLC’s story. To progress in the story, you’ll have to gather “Hyperspace Survey Points” by traveling into the various portals that appear around the city and completing objectives inside, somewhat similarly to the mission cards you can collect during the Z-A Royale at night. The gameplay loop is pretty similar to the base game’s: Complete a cutscene, farm some points, take on a Rogue Mega Evolution, and repeat.
Explore Hyperspace Lumiose
Hyperspace Lumiose introduces a surreal twist to the familiar city, blending futuristic architecture with interdimensional rifts that alter its layout in real time. Trainers can explore new Mega Zones where physics bends and wild Pokémon exhibit unpredictable Mega forms. Special portals connect fractured districts, offering rare Mega Stones and temporal challenges that test both strategy and reflexes. The city’s dazzling lights now pulse with mysterious energy, transforming battles into spectacular displays of Mega Evolution power.
As part of the story, you’ll need to dive into portals that appear around the map, but you can only dive in if you feed Hoopa a tasty donut that you bake with Ansha (more on that below). These maps are somewhat random and vary in size, but different blockades and features will appear throughout these pocket dimensions, making them a little bit different every time you go inside.
Hyperspace Lumiose is filled with the newly added DLC Pokémon, but also is a great place to farm Exp. Candy.
Bake donuts with Ansha
Ansha’s new donut event brings a sweet break from battles, letting players collect ingredients across Lumiose City and bake themed treats inspired by Mega Pokémon. Completing her recipes earns limited-time rewards such as rare Mega Stones, decorative outfits, and kitchen-themed accessories for Ansha’s café corner. The event also ties into the DLC’s friendship mechanic, boosting bond levels with partner Pokémon through crafted desserts.
You’ll use berries to make these donuts, though you don’t have to fret about having a low stock of berries initially. As you explore higher-leveled portals and complete the story, you’ll be able to unlock special Hyperspace-themed berries and upgrades to make better donuts.
Notably, some donuts can even increase encounter and shiny rates, just like sandwiches from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Pokémon levels above 100 for the first time
For the first time in the series, Pokémon can surpass level 100, pushing their growth and strength beyond traditional limits. This feature introduces a new training curve, where experience points continue to matter even after reaching level 100. Players can enhance stats further, face tougher opponents, and experiment with strategies built around these higher-level Pokémon, creating fresh dynamics in both battles and competitive play.
That’s right, Pokémon will be over level 100 for the first time. That is to say, this is temporary, and it only occurs while within Hyperspace Lumiose. The Pokémon you take on in Hyperspace will get tougher as you progress in the story, and you’ll need to make better donuts – which grant your Pokémon temporary levels – to keep up.
Pokémon you catch in Hyperspace also won’t retain their past-100 levels, they’ll scale down. So that level 132 Zangoose you saw will actually only be level 21 or so when you catch it. Dang.
More side missions
The Mega Dimension DLC packs in extra side missions that send players across Lumiose City and beyond. These quests involve tracking rare Mega Stones, aiding locals with Pokémon battles, and uncovering hidden Kalos lore through environmental puzzles. They offer solid rewards like exclusive items and EV training spots, perfect for powering up your team between main story beats.
You’ll also unlock more side missions as you play through the DLC story, many of which introduce you to some of the new Pokédex additions or just have silly stories. A lot of side missions will unlock in the post-game to give you encounters with legendary Pokémon, too.
How to get Mega Raichu X and Y Mega Stones
You get both Mega Raichu X and Y’s Mega Stones (Raichunite X and Raichunite Y) by clearing a specific Hyperspace side mission that only appears after you finish two Raichu-related trades in the base game and unlock Tier-2 rifts in the Mega Dimension DLC.
Prerequisites in the base game
-
Complete the side mission “A Use for an Evolution Stone,” where you trade a Pikachu for a Heracross; the NPC later evolves it into a Raichu.
-
Complete Side Mission 108: “Alola, Raichu!”, trading your regular Raichu for an Alolan Raichu with the woman in front of the Quasartico/Quastelar building.
Unlocking the Hyperspace side mission
-
Progress into the Mega Dimension DLC until you unlock Tier-2 Hyperspace rifts by finishing the first Hyperdimension Survey and the first Mega Evolution Rift (the one with Rogue Mega Absol).
-
After this, look for a yellow Tier-2 rift labeled something like “Unknown Side Mission Detected! Unidentified Mega Stone Detected!” in Hyperspace Lumiose.
Side Mission 139: The Dauntless Raichu Duo
-
Enter that rift to find the two women from the earlier Raichu quests, each with a Raichu; this starts Side Mission 139: “The Dauntless Raichu Duo.”
-
Battle them both at once; they use Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y at very high levels (around 110+), so bring strong Ground-type options or bulky resistances.
Getting Raichunite X and Raichunite Y
-
After you defeat both Mega Raichu, each trainer hands you a stone: one gives Raichunite X and the other Raichunite Y.
-
Once you have them, simply equip Raichunite X or Raichunite Y to any Raichu in Legends: Z-A to unlock Mega Raichu X or Mega Raichu Y during battle in the DLC’s Mega Evolution encounters.
Battle tips for defeating Mega Raichu X and Y duo
Mega Raichu X and Y hit very hard but are still just pure Electric-types, so strong Ground-types and smart target focus make the fight much easier.
Recommended levels and prep
-
Aim for level 100 with a donut that boosts your level in Hyperspace by at least 9-15 levels so you’re not massively under-leveled versus their roughly 115 range.
-
Use donuts that raise offensive stats and/or bulk instead of encounter-rate or item-boost donuts; this is effectively a boss fight, not a farming run.
Best Pokémon and typings
-
Bring at least one bulky Ground-type with high Attack, such as Garchomp or a similarly strong Ground attacker, to both resist their Electric moves and hit back super effectively.
-
Avoid relying on Water- or Flying-types; even with donuts, they are too vulnerable to strong Electric STAB from both Megas.
Target priority and battle flow
-
Focus all damage on Mega Raichu Y first (the one with larger, more “wing-like” ears), since it functions as a glass cannon and is the bigger immediate offensive threat.
-
Once Mega Raichu Y is down, play safer against Mega Raichu X: keep your Ground-type healthy and chip it down, healing when necessary instead of overextending.
Turn-by-turn tactics
-
Open with a Ground-type and a strong STAB Ground move (like Earthquake or High Horsepower) aimed at Mega Raichu Y; use items/defensive switches if Raichu Y survives on low HP.
-
Remember that you only need to defeat one of the two Raichu to clear the mission, so if you’re struggling, commit fully to bursting down Raichu Y and don’t waste actions spreading damage.
Safety tips
-
Bring plenty of healing items; the fight is a 2-on-1, so even a good matchup can get worn down by double attacks each turn.
-
If your Ground-type faints early, pivot into something neutral that can survive at least two hits while you revive and heal your main counter.
