Star Wars Jedi Survivor Rancor Boss Fight Guide Defeat Tips Strategies

Guides

Few enemies in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor hit as hard-or terrify as completely-as the rancor. This monstrous brute can crush Cal in seconds, but with sharp timing, smart positioning, and the right Force abilities, you can turn this towering predator into nothing more than bones in the pit.

As you traverse the worlds of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, you’ll occasionally hear rumors from NPCs – side quests that send you to a nearby area where you’ll help out, explore, and earn some rewards. You’ll pick up the Find Missing Prospectors rumor in Rambler’s Reach Outpost on Koboh. It’ll send you into a nearby tunnel where you’ll do some spelunking, culminating in a boss fight against a rancor.

Our Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Sodden Grotto rancor fight guide will help you defeat the rancor and claim your perk reward.

‘Find the Missing Prospectors’ rumor

The “Find the Missing Prospectors” rumor leads players to the rancor’s lair on Koboh, hidden within the Sodden Grotto. Following the trail of missing miners will eventually reveal the creature’s den, where bones and mining equipment hint at its victims. Completing this rumor not only uncovers the source of the disappearances but also sets up one of the toughest optional boss encounters early in the game.

From the Rambler’s Reach Outpost meditation point (and workbench) just outside of the town’s gate, look toward the town and a little to the right. There’s a woman standing by the building there. Go talk to her, and she’ll give you the “Find Missing Prospectors” rumor.

To investigate it, you’ll have to head for the Sodden Grotto. Luckily, the entrance is just on the other side of the same meditation point in Hunter’s Quarry.

Go to Sodden Grotto on Koboh

Travel to the Sodden Grotto on Koboh, where the rancor hides deep within the cave system near the corpses of slaughtered miners. The entrance is found in the Corroded Silo area, accessible after gaining the Force Lift ability. Once inside, move carefully through the narrow tunnels and eliminate the smaller enemies before reaching the wide arena where the rancor emerges. Save your progress at the nearby meditation point to avoid losing ground after defeat.

There are several collectibles to find as you make your way through the Sodden Grotto, but the path through is relatively straightforward. When you reach the area’s meditation point, you’ll be right outside of the rancor boss fight arena.

Sodden Grotto rancor fight

The Sodden Grotto rancor charges aggressively and slams its fists down. Dodge sideways to avoid the ground pound, then attack its legs during recovery. Watch for the unblockable red grab-parry or Force push it away. When it rears up for a belly flop, sprint behind cover until the shockwave passes. Repeated leg strikes expose its back; hit there to build stagger and land heavy damage.

The fight against the rancor isn’t an easy one by any means, but it’s possible – even this early in the game. The only real trick is knowing what attacks to watch out for and what to do about them.

The rancor’s most devastating attack is a rushing grab. The rancor will pull its left arm back as it glows red and then rush toward Cal to grab him. If you don’t get out of the way, the rancor will kill Cal and end the fight.

The best way to avoid this is just a dodge (or, better yet, two) to the side. When you’re comfortable avoiding it, you can even follow up with a lightsaber slash or two.

The second unblockable attack is a ground pound. The rancor will glow red and raise both fists above its head. A couple of dodges to the side will get you out of the way, but it’s better to double jump and let the shock wave pass under you.

The rancor’s most common attack is two slams with its claws. It may or may not follow up with two stomps that send smaller shockwaves out. You can dodge both of the swipes without moving too far, which will leave you in a good position to follow up with a series of attacks – just make sure you dodge both swings.

Better than that, though, you can parry both of them to wear down the rancor’s block meter. If you get it all the way down, you’ll stagger the rancor and have an opportunity to land a few free hits.

There’s also a fun Easter egg attack you can do for a few more free hits. Use Force Pull to grab one of the several bones laying round the arena. When the rancor is facing you, Force Push it to jam the bone into its mouth. It won’t stagger it for long – and it only works once – but free hits are free hits.

Take the fight slowly. Dodge the attacks that you can, land a few hits afterward, and then back off to prepare for the next attack. Stagger the rancor whenever you can and use the bone trick for a few extra hits. Be patient – rushing this fight is a sure way to get eaten.

Sodden Grotto rancor fight reward

Defeating the Rancor in the Sodden Grotto rewards you with a powerful cosmetic and valuable skill points that can boost Cal’s combat abilities. After the fight, you can loot the area to find unique items, including a special customization piece for Cal’s lightsaber. Make sure to inspect the nearby chests and scan the environment for databank entries that add lore and experience points to your progress.

When the rancor is dealt with, your reward is an essence. Interact with it to pick up the Shatter perk, which you can equip at any meditation point. This perk makes Cal more effective at breaking an enemy’s block meter.

How to find all missing prospectors on Koboh

To find the missing prospectors on Koboh in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, start the “Find Missing Prospectors” Rumor by speaking to the Prospector near the Rambler’s Reach Outpost Meditation Point in Southern Reach.

Starting the Rumor

Climb the vines behind the Meditation Point and enter the cave through the left passageway. This leads into the Sodden Grotto mine where the prospectors were exploring. Rest at the Sodden Grotto Meditation Point inside for a checkpoint before the Rancor fight.

Search Path

Follow these steps through the cave:

  • Use Force Push on blue rocks to clear blockages.

  • Climb pipes and railings; slash ropes to lower a bridge.

  • Scan collectibles like Dead Gorgers, Massive Ribcage, and Prospector Remains Force Echoes along the way.

  • Take upper paths for shards and right forks to progress (left often leads to echoes).

Discoveries and Rancor

The prospectors were killed by a Legendary Rancor-defeat it in the final pit (as covered previously with Dual Wield attacks and bone throws). Interact with remains and echoes to gather evidence, then report back to the Prospector outside for completion (unlocks Shatter Perk).

How to defeat the Rancor in Sodden Grotto

The Rancor in Sodden Grotto is a tough early optional boss tied to the “Find Missing Prospectors” rumor on Koboh, but it’s beatable with Dual Wield or Double-Bladed stance for fast stagger buildup.

Key Attacks to Dodge

Prioritize evasion over blocking-its red-glowing lunge grab is a one-shot kill, so double-dodge sideways when its left arm pulls back. Jump over ground slams, stomps, and shockwaves; parry basic claw swipes (often 2-4 in a combo) to drain its block meter.

Damage Strategy

Hit 2-3 times after safe dodges, then back off to avoid counters; repeat patiently while building stagger for big openings. Force Pull a nearby bone (one-time trick) and Push it into its mouth for instant stun and free hits-do this early.

Advanced Tips

Climb back to the arena ledge to snipe with blaster or saber throws if low on health; phase 2 adds frantic swings, so stay mobile. Unlocks Shatter Perk essence post-fight for breaking enemy blocks faster.
