Unlock the Slums’ silent code: one safe, one heartbeat-stopping gem.
How to find the safe
The safe is located in The Slums, near the area where the Guardian robot stands watch. From there, walk down the alley toward the musician sitting near a pile of cushions, and you’ll spot the safe tucked beside some garbage bags and a metal fence. Its presence is easy to miss unless you check the darker corners of the area, so explore carefully around the streets and back alleys near the central square.

If you’re in the first few chapters of Stray, proceed until you enter The Slums (chapter 4) and start interacting with the robot citizens in town. After you talk to the Guardian and they deem you safe, turn left.
Down a short slope you’ll run into Morusque, the local guitar player. You’ll need to gather Sheet Music for them in another quest, but just walk by for now. When you reach a gate, look left and you’ll find a shallow alley. Walk in and you’ll see the safe sitting there. Interact with it to get a clue item that you can show to the people in town.
At this point, you can look around to try and solve the mystery for yourself, or you can continue reading for the solution.
How to find the password and open the safe
Scan the Slums’ safe can be opened by locating a numeric clue on the nearby devices, then inputting the sequence into the lock. Start by inspecting the wall panels around the broken vending machine to reveal a small tablet showing the numbers 0219. Enter 0219 into the keypad, confirm, and the safe will unlock.

To find the code, you’ll need to make your way to the local bar. Face away from the Guardian and walk straight until you see a neon red sign, which adorns the entrance of the local watering hole. Go inside and you’ll see another neon red sign propped up against the wall that reads “Dufer Bar.” Above the sign is a picture of a beach.

Jump onto the counter and walk up to the sign and picture. Interact with it and the cat will knock the picture off of the wall and reveal the code written underneath: 1283. This is the code to the alley safe, so memorize it or take a screenshot (or just bookmark this guide).
