Find Taken Blight Locations in Destiny 2 Whispers of the Taken Quest

Guides

Embark on a high-stakes hunt in Destiny 2’s ‘Whispers of the Taken’ quest, where precision and speed are your allies. To upgrade the legendary Whisper of the Worm sniper rifle, you must track down and destroy three elusive sets of Taken Blights hidden within the perilous Legend version of The Whisper mission. Master the mission’s layout, wield your Whisper of the Worm with deadly accuracy, and uncover the exact locations of these sinister blights before time runs out-each successful strike brings you closer to unlocking powerful new perks.

In this Destiny 2 guide, I’ll walk you through how to complete “Whispers of the Taken” and where to find the special Blights.

If you’re after an additional upgrade to the Intrinsic perk, then you also need to find Oracle locations in “The Whisper”.

’Whispers of the Taken 1’ Blight locations

The Taken Blights for the “Whispers of the Taken 1” quest in Destiny 2 are located early in the Legend version of “The Whisper” mission. The first Blight floats near the ledge where you initially shoot it. The second is found above and to the right, tucked under some tree branches. The third Blight is hidden in a cavern on the left side of the mission, near a Taken Phalanx, nestled among the trees without descending into the hole. Players need to destroy all three Blights within 20 minutes to progress and unlock the Field Prep perk for the Whisper of the Worm sniper rifle.

Immediately after getting Whisper of the Worm from “The Whisper” mission, the game will direct you to speak to Eris, who will then give you the “Whispers of the Taken 1” quest. Completing this quest will net you the Field Prep perk for Whisper of the Worm, which you can use to replace the Mulligan perk while crafting.

The first step of the quest is to find 30 Taken Essence, which you can earn by killing any Taken enemies (look to the Dreaming City for this) while you have Whisper of the Worm equipped. Note that you don’t need to use the Exotic sniper to get the kills, but you do need to have it in your heavy slot.

Once you get all the Taken Essence, you’ll need to destroy a set of three Taken Blights hidden in the Legend difficulty version of “The Whisper.” On this advanced difficulty, you’ll only have 20 minutes to find the Taken Blights and complete the mission, so look ahead and know where you’re going before you start.

Once you’re ready, launch “The Whisper” on Legend and make sure you have Whisper of the Worm with you.

Blight 1 and 2

The set of Taken Blights you need to destroy for “Whispers of the Taken 1” are available very early on in the mission. All three of them are before you destroy the big Taken Blight and jump in the hole, so do not progress the mission that far or you’ll need to restart.

When you first start out in the cave on Io, walk forward and kill the Taken Thrall that appear. Walk up to the ledge and immediately look down. As long as you completed the Taken Essence part of the quest before launching “The Whisper,” you’ll see a little ball of Taken energy floating in the air (labeled #1 on the image above). Zoom in with Whisper of the Worm and shoot it.

From where you shot Taken Blight #1, look up and to the right, just under some tree branches. You’ll find the second Taken Blight for this set hovering in the air (labeled #2 in the above image). Shoot it.

Blight 3

Once you’ve shot the first two Taken Blights, hop over to the cavern on your left, where you’ll find a Taken Phalanx. Do not go down the hole, but walk toward it. When you can see the large Taken Blight, turn around and put your back to it. Look out ahead of you and you’ll see the small Taken Blight ball among the trees (labeled #3 in the image above). Zoom in and shoot it.

Once you destroy that Taken Blight, you’ll see the next step for “Whispers of the Taken 1” appear, which asks you to complete “The Whisper” on Legend. Do that, return to Eris, and you’ll unlock Field Prep for Whisper of the Worm.

’Whispers of the Taken 2’ Blight locations

In Destiny 2’s “Whispers of the Taken 2” quest, the Taken Blights are primarily located in the Green Room area of The Whisper mission. Players will find three distinct Taken Blights to destroy: one is positioned right in front of you upon entering the room, the second is located toward the back, and the third is situated above, requiring a slight angle to shoot. These blights are quite visible and must be destroyed using the Whisper of the Worm sniper rifle to progress in the quest. It is recommended to clear all three blights in the same run, although it is possible to reload the mission and destroy them in separate attempts if needed.

After you finish “Whispers of the Taken 1” with Eris, she’ll give you “Whispers of the Taken 2,” which rewards the No Distractions perk for Whisper of the Worm. The quest objectives here are the exact same as the first one, so get some Taken kills with Whisper of the Worm equipped and get your loadout setup for “The Whisper” on Legend.

This time, however, you’ll need to find a new set of Taken Blight balls, which are much further into the mission. Look ahead so you know where you’re going.

Blight 1 and 2

Make your way through the bulk of the jumping puzzle in “The Whisper” and into the infamous “green room,” which comes directly after jumping into the portal holes. Instead of quickly exiting the green room via the shortcut I pointed out in my guide for the mission, look straight ahead.

You’ll find the first Taken Blight floating in the middle of the room once you walk in. (It’s labeled as #1 on the image above). Once you clock it, zoom in and shoot it.

You can shoot the second Taken Blight from the same vantage point. Look up at the middle of the room and you’ll see a large crack that leads to a big, round hole. The next Taken Blight (labeled as #2 in the image above) is floating in the middle of this hole. Zoom in and shoot it.

Blight 3

For the third Taken Blight, walk forward to the big ball in the middle of the room and then turn around. Near the ceiling, in the direction you came from, you’ll see a Taken Blight floating in the sky (labeled #3 on the image above). Zoom in and shoot it.

Now, just like with the last quest, you’ll need to finish “The Whisper” on Legend and then talk to Eris. Once you do, she’ll award you the No Distractions perk.

’Whispers of the Taken 3’ Blight locations

In Destiny 2’s ‘Whispers of the Taken 3’ quest, players must locate and destroy three sets of Taken Blights within the Legend version of The Whisper mission. The final set of Blights is found near the end of the mission, just before dropping down to the final boss room. One Blight is on the right side, another is up to the left near the ceiling, and the third is positioned overlooking an open area-players need to shoot all three with the Whisper of the Worm sniper rifle in the same run to progress. Familiarity with the mission layout and quick execution are essential due to the 20-minute time limit.

Once you’ve finished both “Whispers of the Taken 1” and “Whispers of the Taken 2,” Eris will give you “Whispers of the Taken 3,” which is the final quest in this questline and rewards the Enlightened Action perk for Whisper of the Worm. The quest objectives here are the exact same as the first two, so get some Taken precision kills with Whisper of the Worm equipped and get your loadout setup for “The Whisper” on Legend.

There is another set of Taken Blight balls for this version of the quest, and they’re in the second-to-last encounter chamber – the one just before you jump into the boss room.

Blight 1

Make your way through The Whisper until you reach the big room with the triangle in the middle. Defeat all of the enemies but do not jump into the triangle pit, as this will lead you to the boss room.

Instead, head back to the doorway of this area, so you’re overlooking the pit. Turn to your right and you’ll find the first Taken Blight ball. Zoom in and shoot it.

Blight 2

Head over to where you shot Taken Blight #1 and stop at the edge. Look over the edge of the platform and to your left. You’ll see the second Taken Blight ball hovering just off to the side. Zoom in and shoot it.

Blight 3

From where you shot Taken Blight #2, turn to your left and look up toward the ceiling. You’ll see a bronze pillar shooting out of the side of the wall. Behind the pillar – or to the right, from your perspective – you’ll find the final Taken Blight ball. Zoom in and shoot it.

With all nine Taken Blight balls destroyed, hop down into the pit, defeat the final boss, and complete “The Whisper” on Legend once again. Return to Eris one final time and she’ll grant you Enlightened Action, the final perk for Whisper of the Worm.

Where are the hidden spots to find all Taken Blights in the quest

In Destiny 2’s ‘Whispers of the Taken’ quest, the Taken Blights are grouped into three sets, each hidden in distinct locations within The Whisper mission:

  • First Set of Taken Blights: After starting the mission, look near the initial area where you shoot the first blight. From there, look up and to the right, just under some tree branches, to find the second blight in this set.

  • Second Set of Taken Blights: In the green room area following the red jumping puzzle, you’ll find one blight right in front of you, another just behind it up high, and a third overhead within the same room. This cluster is all visible within the green room space.

  • Final Set of Taken Blights: Near the top part before dropping down to the final boss room, locate one blight on your right, look up to your left for the second, and then angle yourself toward the open area to find the third. Clearing these completes the quest step.

Additional details include that the blights are protected or hidden-some require using hidden flooring or careful observation near pillars and boss areas like the Hall of Souls, Mausoleum, and Trenchway. You must have the Whisper of the Worm sniper rifle equipped to shoot and destroy all three blights in the same run to progress.

If blights do not appear, changing matchmaking difficulty or reloading the activity can help trigger their spawn.

Which hidden areas are easiest to access for Taken Blights in the quest

The easiest hidden areas to access Taken Blights in Destiny 2’s ‘Whispers of the Taken’ quest are:

  • Hall of Souls area in the Nether activity: This spot is considered the easiest Taken Blight to spot. You can find it near the big section in the middle of the area where you fight a Tormentor. Small platforms spawn near a pillar, allowing you to reach the blight easily.

  • Entrance of The Whisper mission: The first set of Taken Blights spawns right at the entrance, with two blights visible from the ledge and the third accessible by jumping down near a tree branch. This area is straightforward to navigate and quick to reach.

  • Overgrown room inside The Whisper mission: The second set of Taken Blights is located in a ruined, overgrown room after the traversal sequence. The blights here are in plain sight-one straight ahead, one across the room, and one above-making them relatively easy to find and shoot.

These areas are favored because they require minimal complex platforming or backtracking, and the blights are visible or accessible with simple jumps or ledge drops. If you don’t see the blights spawn, reloading the activity or adjusting matchmaking can help trigger their appearance.
