Hidden deep within Grymforge lie rare Moulds used to forge some of Baldur’s Gate 3’s most unique gear. This guide pinpoints every Mould location, saving you hours of searching through molten tunnels and forgotten dwarven halls.
All Mould locations in Baldur’s Gate 3
Six moulds for the Adamantine Forge lie scattered across Grymforge in Baldur’s Gate 3. The Longsword Mould sits on a hanging platform after the iron ladder descent toward the forge, while the Mace Mould rests on a table beside the Ancient Forge waypoint. Scale Mail Mould appears southwest of that waypoint near Animated Armors and a torch, Splint Mould northeast by a skeleton after climbing stairs, Shield Mould on another skeleton past a locked DC 12 iron door east from the hanging platforms, and Scimitar Mould nearby the Splint one.

There are a total of six moulds scattered around the Grymforge. You can either make a longsword, mace, scale mail, scimitar, shield, or splint as long as you have mithril ore. Some of the moulds are a little easier to find, while a couple will have you go out of your way.
For more information on where to find each mould, check out the sections below.
Longsword mould location
The Longsword mould can be found in the Grymforge area, near the Ancient Forge waypoint. From the waypoint, head toward the eastern section where Duergar workers are stationed. The mould rests on a crate beside a large anvil, surrounded by broken machinery and ore. Collecting it allows players to craft a masterwork weapon once combined with the appropriate alloy in the Adamantine Forge.

The longsword mould can be found on the path toward the Adamantine Forge. After you climb down the iron ladder and hop onto the hanging platform, the longsword mould can be found on the very next platform.
Mace mould location
The Mace Mould sits on a table right next to the Underdark – Ancient Forge waypoint in Grymforge. Teleport there and spot it immediately by the fast travel point, possibly requiring a jump from the nearby platform. Coordinates X: -609, Y: 284 mark the exact position for precision.

The mace mould can be found on the path toward the Adamantine Forge. After you unlock the Ancient Forge teleport waypoint, search for the mould on the table beside the waypoint.
Scale mail mould location
The Scale Mail Mould can be found in Grymforge, located within the Underdark. It rests on a workbench near the central forge area, surrounded by other crafting materials and tools. Players can reach it after clearing out the surrounding duergar and activating the lava flow. Once collected, this mould can be used at the Adamantine Forge to create Adamantine Scale Mail, offering strong defensive stats and resistance to critical hits.

The scale mail mould can be found to the southwest of the Ancient Forge waypoint. There are three Animated Armor enemies loitering around the mould that you can avoid with sneak.
Scimitar mould location
The Scimitar Mould lies on a skeleton next to two levers in Grymforge. Descend the iron ladder toward the Adamantine Forge, cross the eastern hanging platform, and check the left side of the lever table for the remains. Those with Misty Step can teleport here directly from the nearby Splint Mould spot.

The scimitar mould can be found on the body of a skeleton beside a pair of levers. After you climb down the iron ladder on the way to the Adamantine Forge, ride the hanging platform across to the eastern side and continue along the path until you reach a pair of levers. On the left side of the levers, there will be a skeleton on the floor, which has the scimitar mould on their person. If you have Misty Step, you can reach this area from the location of the splint mould.
Shield mould location
The Shield mould is found in Grymforge, located near the Ancient Forge area. To reach it, follow the path leading toward the lava river, then check the broken walkway near a cluster of duergar corpses. The mould rests on a small ledge beside a set of furnaces. Keep an eye out for glowing metal parts nearby, as they’re a clear sign you’re close to the correct spot.

The shield mould can be found on the body of a skeleton on the eastern side of the Grymforge. After you climb down the iron ladder on the way to the Adamantine Forge, ride the hanging platform across to the other side. You’ll need to lockpick the double iron doors directly ahead of you, which have a difficulty class of 12. Head up to the top of the stairs to find a body of a skeleton that has the shield mould in their inventory.
Splint mould location
From the Underdark – Ancient Forge waypoint in Grymforge, head northeast up the stairs to a small ledge overlooking a lava-filled room with giant gears below. A body lies there at coordinates X: -597, Y: 309, holding the Splint Mould next to rusted weapons. Pick it up to craft Adamantine Splint Armour at the Adamantine Forge using Mithral Ore.

How to get Mithril Ore for the Adamantine Forge
Mithril Ore for the Adamantine Forge comes from just two special veins in Grymforge, both very close to the Ancient Forge waypoint in the Underdark.
Step 1: Reach Grymforge and the Forge
-
Travel to the Underdark, then go to the Decrepit Village and take the duergar boat there to reach Grymforge.
-
From Grymforge, work your way through to the “Underdark – Ancient Forge” waypoint; this is the area directly above the Adamantine Forge itself.
Step 2: Find the two Mithril Ore veins
-
Vein 1 – From the Ancient Forge waypoint, go down the main stairs toward the Forge, then hop off the stair path toward the glowing blue vein in the lava area beside the steps; this is one Mithril Ore deposit.
-
Vein 2 – From the same waypoint, head along the rocky path near the lava (described as southwest or off to the side of the main route) and jump across lava rocks to another large glowing blue Mithril Ore vein.
Step 3: Mine the Mithril Ore
-
Target the “Mithral Vein” interactable and hit it with strong bludgeoning attacks (warhammers, maces, war picks); the vein ignores most other damage types and has a “Sturdy” effect that reduces low damage hits.
-
When the vein’s HP is broken, it explodes and drops exactly one Mithril Ore each, meaning you can only ever get two pieces of Mithril Ore in the game for the Forge.
Step 4: Use Mithril at the Forge
-
At the Adamantine Forge, place one mould in the mould slot, then put a single Mithril Ore into the crucible in the center of the platform.
-
Activate the lever to lower the platform and run the Forge; each Mithril Ore lets you craft one Adamantine item, so you must choose only two items among the available weapon and armor moulds.
Which two Adamantine items are worth crafting first
The two Adamantine items most players get the most value from first are Adamantine Splint Armour and Adamantine Shield, with Adamantine Scale Mail as a strong alternative if your main tank cannot wear heavy armor.
Best default pair
-
Adamantine Splint Armour: Top defensive pick; 18 base AC, reduces all incoming damage by 2 and makes melee attackers Reeling for 3 turns, plus immunity to critical hits.
-
Adamantine Shield: Works on many classes, grants crit immunity, damage reduction, Reeling on attackers, and a Shield Bash reaction to knock enemies prone, so it remains useful even into late game.
When to swap Splint for Scale Mail
-
If your best front-liner is medium-armor only (e.g., Shadowheart, some Rangers, Druids), Adamantine Scale Mail is recommended instead of Splint so they can benefit from the same crit immunity and damage reduction without needing heavy-armor proficiency.
-
Many players and guides suggest pairing Scale Mail + Shield for early survivability on clerics and other mid-line characters until you find stronger unique sets later.
When to craft a weapon instead
-
Adamantine Longsword is the standout weapon and worth considering if you lack a good martial two-hander or main-hand for a Strength-based fighter or paladin, since it outdamages the mace and scimitar and ignores slashing resistance.
-
However, weapons get replaced more quickly in later acts, while the Splint/Scale + Shield combination can stay relevant for far longer, which is why most recommendations prioritize armor and shield over forge weapons.
