Iris of Grace locations

The Iris of Grace in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree can be found in two main locations within the Realm of Shadow. The first is in the Shadow Keep, specifically in a corridor near the West Entrance, accessible via an elevator next to the Storehouse, First Floor Site of Grace. After descending and navigating through a large room filled with Innard experiments, the Iris of Grace is located below a balcony on the left side. The second location is at the Scadutree Base in the Church District, accessed through a tunnel behind the cathedral. After progressing through the tunnel, the Iris of Grace is found at the altar in a church near a headless Statue of Marika by the Tree-Worship Passage. These items are key to completing quests for NPCs like Queelign and Jolan, rewarding unique Spirit Ashes upon exchange.

There are two Iris of Grace locations: the Shadow Keep Infirmary and in front of a Statue of Marika near the Tree-Worship Passage Site of Grace.

Shadow Keep Infirmary

  1. Start from the Storehouse, First Floor Site of Grace in the Shadow Keep.
  2. Head northwest and enter the room on your left.
  3. Ride the elevator down to the lower level.
  4. Turn right into the corridor and watch out for the jar jumpscare from the doorway on your left.
  5. Enter the doorway on your left and spot the jar innard enemy below you.
  6. Drop down, defeat the innard monster, and collect the Iris of Grace.

Tree-Worship Passage Statue of Marika

If you’ve already drained the water in the Church District, skip ahead to step nine.

  1. Start from the Church District Entrance Site of Grace.
  2. Hop across the buildings to the northwest until you reach the building with a Fire Knight.
  3. Defeat the Fire Knight and move over to the southern rooftop.
  4. Jump over to the buttress to your southeast and climb up to the rooftop to find a large hole.
  5. Drop onto the arches below and move over to the large hold in the floor to the southwest.
  6. Drop into the hole and follow the northwestern path until you reach the second door on your left.
  7. Follow along this path until you reach a ladder, which leads to a turnstile that lowers the water level in the Church District.
  8. Lower the water level and head to the lower level to activate the Sunken Chapel Site of Grace.
  9. Enter the building to the northwest and progress forward until just before the Statue of Marika.
  10. Face northeast and follow this path until you reach another Statue of Marika with an Iris of Grace in front of it.

Iris of Occultation locations

The Iris of Occultation in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree can be found in two key locations within the Realm of Shadow. The first is in the Fort of Reprimand in Scadu Altus, where it is obtained by defeating a Lesser Omenkiller enemy in the fort’s cellar after dropping through a hole in the courtyard floor. The second Iris of Occultation is located in the Church District of the Shadow Keep, accessible after draining the flooded area; it is dropped by the Ulcerated Tree Spirit found on the north side of the courtyard. These items are essential for progressing certain side quests and exchanging for unique rewards in the DLC.

There are two Iris of Occultation locations: Fort of Reprimand’s basement and from an Ulcerated Tree Spirit in the Church District.

Fort of Reprimand Basement

  1. Start from the Moorth Highway, South Site of Grace.
  2. Enter the Fort of Reprimand and hug the left wall to find a square hole in the floor.
  3. Jump in to find an Omenkiller.
  4. Defeat them to receive an Iris of Occultation.

Church District Ulcerated Tree Spirit

  1. Start from the Church District Entrance Site of Grace after you’ve drained the water from the Church District.
  2. Go down the stairs to the south and pull the lever to activate the elevator.
  3. Ride the elevator down and head northwest until an Ulcerated Tree Spirit burrows out of the ground.
  4. Defeat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit to receive an Iris of Occultation.

Iris of Grace or Iris of Occultation rewards

The Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation are key consumable items in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree that play a crucial role in two NPC questlines involving Fire Knight Queelign and Jolan. These items can be found in specific locations within the Shadow Keep and surrounding areas. Instead of using them as consumables to activate Great Runes, players can exchange the Iris of Grace or Iris of Occultation with these NPCs to receive unique spirit ash rewards: the Fire Knight Queelign spirit ash or the Swordhand of Night Jolan spirit ash. The choice between the Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation determines which reward you obtain, making these items important for completing these quests and gaining powerful allies.

The Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation will change what reward you’ll get at the end of the Fire Knight Queelign and Count Ymir quest lines, but the irises will always give the same type of reward.

The Iris of Grace will always lead to a Spirit Ash, while the Iris of Occultation will always lead to a weapon.

If you don’t mind spoilers, the specific rewards for each quest are:

  • In the Fire Knight Queelign quest, the Iris of Grace will get you the Fire Knight Queelign Spirit Ash, while the Iris of Occultation will get you the Queelign’s Greatsword.
  • As for the Count Ymir questline, the Iris of Grace option will give you the Swordhand of Night Jolán Spirit Ash (which can be upgraded at the top of Rabbath’s Rise), while the Iris of Occultation option will give you The Sword of Knight.

What secrets do the Iris of Grace and Occultation unlock in Shadow of the Erdtree

The Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree unlock unique rewards tied to two key NPC questlines involving Fire Knight Queelign and Swordhand of Night Jolán. Using the Iris of Grace on these characters grants powerful Spirit Ash summons, while the Iris of Occultation yields their unique weapons. These consumables also unlock a hidden door in the Shadow Keep church, revealing more of the DLC’s lore and challenges.

Specifically, after acquiring both Irises, you return to the Prayer Room in the Shadow Keep to present one Iris to Fire Knight Queelign, who then disappears, leaving behind either his Spirit Ash (with Iris of Grace) or his greatsword (with Iris of Occultation). Similarly, Swordhand of Night Jolán offers a choice between her Spirit Ash or her weapon depending on which Iris you give her. Notably, the Iris of Occultation is not consumed and can be used on both NPCs, whereas the Iris of Grace is consumed upon use.

In addition to these quest rewards, the Iris of Occultation can also be used to receive the blessing of an equipped Great Rune at the cost of all runes currently held, reflecting its thematic connection to darkness and denial of light. Thus, these Irises serve as rare, strategic consumables that unlock powerful combat aids and deepen the narrative experience in Shadow of the Erdtree.

What story secrets are revealed when using the Iris of Grace and Occultation

Using the Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree reveals poignant story secrets about two key NPCs-Fire Knight Queelign and Swordhand of Night Jolán-who are caught in moments of despair and spiritual crisis. When you find them in the Prayer Room and Cathedral of Manus Metyr respectively, both are depicted as questioning their faith and seeking mercy from Marika, symbolizing their struggle with grace and darkness.

By choosing to give them the Iris of Grace, you grant them a final blessing of light, which rewards you with their powerful Spirit Ash summons, embodying their enduring strength and hope. Conversely, using the Iris of Occultation denies them this light, offering instead their unique weapons, which represent their lingering will to fight despite their fading grace. This choice between grace and occultation deepens the narrative, highlighting themes of redemption, sacrifice, and the duality of light and shadow in the DLC’s lore.

Additionally, these Irises unlock a hidden door in the Shadow Keep church, further unveiling the somber fate of Queelign and Jolán and enriching the player’s understanding of their tragic stories and the broader spiritual decay afflicting the world.
