Our Elden Ring DLC guide will walk you through where to find Thiollier and St. Trina, and all the steps you’ll need to take to complete their questline.

Thiollier and St. Trina locations

Thiollier can initially be found near the Pillar Path Cross Site of Grace in the Gravesite Plain, southeast of Castle Ensis, where he acts as a merchant specializing in poisons and related items. After progressing through the questline and discovering St. Trina, Thiollier moves to the Garden of Deep Purple in the Stone Coffin Fissure area. His relocation is triggered either by informing him of St. Trina’s whereabouts or by advancing certain story events such as defeating the Golden Hippopotamus or burning the Sealing Tree in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh. Both NPCs are central to the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC questline and their intertwined story unfolds as you follow Thiollier’s journey from the Pillar Path Cross to the Garden of Deep Purple.

You’ll meet Thiollier first near the Pillar Path Cross Site of Grace in Gravesite Plain. You can reach him there before you take on Castle Ensis.

Later, after you enter Shadow Keep, you’ll be able to find St. Trina in the Cerulean Coast at the Garden of Deep Purple Site of Grace, and Thiollier will move to be with her there.

Thiollier first meeting in Graveyard Plain

You will first meet Thiollier near the Pillar Path Cross Site of Grace in Gravesite Plain, the initial area of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Thiollier introduces himself as a Tarnished with expertise in crafting poisons and expresses a desire to find St. Trina and hear her voice. At this point, he acts as a merchant selling poison-related items. Meeting him here sets the stage for his intertwined questline with St. Trina, which unfolds as you progress through the DLC. Optionally, after meeting Thiollier, you can visit Moore at the Main Gate Cross Site of Grace to obtain Black Syrup, which you can give to Thiollier to receive Thiollier’s Concoction, an item linked to other quests. Thiollier remains at the Pillar Path Cross until you advance the story or locate St. Trina, after which he moves to new locations to continue his quest.

There’s not really a rush to go find Thiollier at his initial location by Pillar Path Cross Site of Grace, but, since his questline overlaps with Moore’s, it’s probably best to get that initial meeting out of the way early before things get complicated. You can get there before tackling Castle Ensis by crossing Ellac Greatbridge, and then just taking the right inside the solider camp.

Once you reach the Pillar Path Cross Site of Grace and Miquella’s Cross, chat with Thiollier and exhaust his dialogue.

Check in with Moore after meeting Thiollier

After meeting Thiollier at the Pillar Path Cross Site of Grace, the next important step is to check in with Moore, who can be found outside the Belurat, Tower Settlement legacy dungeon near the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace. Speaking with Moore will provide you with a Black Syrup item, which you need to give to Thiollier to progress his questline. This interaction activates the intertwined questlines of Thiollier and St. Trina, setting the stage for further developments in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

After you have your first talk with Thiollier, head back to the Main Gate Cross Site of Grace in front of Belurat. Check in with Moore and talk to him, and he’ll give you some Black Syrup for Thiollier.

Head across to Pillar Path Cross Site of Grace to give the Black Syrup and then ask about the Black Syrup. Choose I’m tired of life next, and Thiollier will hand you Thiollier’s Concoction. This is an item you’ll use with the Dragon Communion Priestess on Igon’s questline.

Break the great rune (and the charm)

To break the Great Rune and the charm in the Thiollier and St. Trina questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, you must first progress through their intertwined missions by interacting with both NPCs and following St. Trina’s instructions, including imbibing her nectar multiple times and relaying her messages to Thiollier. This sequence leads to a pivotal moment where Thiollier invades and must be defeated, unlocking further quest stages. Eventually, after defeating key bosses like Needle Knight Leda and progressing through the story, you gain the ability to summon Thiollier for crucial battles, including the final boss fight. Completing this questline rewards you with Thiollier’s armor set and weapons, and is essential for summoning valuable NPC allies to aid in the final challenges of the DLC.

Before you can make any more progress, you need to break a great rune that’s blocking your path. You probably haven’t even seen it yet, but it’s time to get it out of the way.

To break it, you need to approachShadow Keep. Just before you reach the front door, you’ll get a pair of messages – Somewhere, a great rune has broken.” and “And so too has a powerful charm.” These both generally relate to Miquella and the NPCs you’ve met so far. For Thiollier and St. Trina specifically, the great rune was blocking a path you’ll need to head to now.

Reach the Stone Coffin Fissure and defeat the Putrescent Knight

To reach the Stone Coffin Fissure and defeat the Putrescent Knight in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, first ensure Miquella’s Great Rune is broken by approaching Shadow Keep or the Cathedral of Manus Metyr, which lifts the golden seal blocking access to the fissure. Head to the southern tip of the Cerulean Coast and find the fissure entrance; descend into the Stone Coffin Fissure until you reach the Fissure Depths Site of Grace. From there, jump into the seemingly bottomless pit to land in the boss arena where the Putrescent Knight awaits. This formidable, cleaver-wielding skeletal horseman relentlessly pursues you across the battlefield, requiring careful observation of its attack patterns and timely counterattacks to defeat. If you have followed Thiollier’s questline, his summon sign will be available to assist you in this challenging fight.

All the way at the southern tip of the Southern Shores, there’s a fissure you can climb (fall) down. That’s your next stop. At the bottom, you’ll find the The Fissure Site of Grace at the entrance to the Cerulean Coast and the Stone Coffin Fissure – this is where the rune we broke was blocking your progress.

A bit further along, you’ll face the Putrescent Knight and unlock the Garden of Deep Purple Site of Grace. Once you do, you’ll be right near where St. Trina has been hiding.

Head into the tunnel by the Garden of Deep Purple Site of Grace to meet St. Trina. She’s not very talkative. Don’t do anything with her yet. Instead, leave and then go check in with Thiollier.

Tell Thiollier about St. Trina’s whereabouts

To tell Thiollier about St. Trina’s whereabouts in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, first speak with St. Trina in the Stone Coffin Fissure area after defeating the Putrescent Knight boss. Do not accept her nectar initially. Then, fast travel to the Pillar Path Cross Site of Grace and talk to Thiollier, informing him where St. Trina is located. After this, return to the cave with St. Trina and exhaust the dialogue with both NPCs. This step is crucial to progress Thiollier’s questline and unlock further interactions and rewards.

Go back to the Pillar Path Cross Site of Grace and speak with Thiollier. Tell him St. Trina’s whereabouts, and he’ll relocate.

Imbibe the nectar

In the “Imbibe the Nectar” phase of the Thiollier and St. Trina questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, players must drink St. Trina’s nectar multiple times despite the warning that it will kill them instantly. This act is essential for progressing the quest, as each time you imbibe the nectar, you temporarily die and respawn, unlocking hidden dialogue from St. Trina and advancing the intertwined story of both characters. You need to drink the nectar about six times in total to fully complete their questline, which ultimately rewards you with unique items and further story revelations. This dark and mysterious ritual is a key step, requiring patience and trust in the process to unlock the quest’s full depth and rewards.

The next part of their questline is a little confusing (and dark). Head back to the Garden of Deep Purple and go chat with Thiollier.

Ignore his warnings, and go talk to St. Trina. When you have the option, choose to imbibe nectar. Just like Thiollier said, this will kill you immediately. That’s the plan, though, so trust the process.

Keep respawning at the site of grace and then imbibing the nectar over and over – four times in a row – until you start hearing St. Trina’s voice on the black screen before you respawn.

Defeat Thiollier

To defeat Thiollier in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, you will face him as an invader after progressing through the questline involving St. Trina and imbibing her nectar multiple times. Thiollier primarily uses poison-based attacks, making the fight challenging but manageable with proper preparation. Defeating him rewards you with the Talisman “St. Trina’s Smile.” After this battle, Thiollier can be summoned for key fights such as against Needle Knight Leda and the final boss of the DLC, providing valuable support. His defeat also grants access to his armor set and hidden needle weapon as loot, marking the completion of his questline.

Once you hear St. Trina’s words, head back and try to pass the message on to Thiollier. It’ll take two tries, and he won’t be receptive.

Imbibe the nectar (and die) again. You’ll hear a bit more from St. Trina in the darkness.

When you respawn, you’ll get invaded by Thiollier. Defeat him to pick up the St. Trina’s Smile talisman.

Pass on St. Trina’s words

To progress in the Thiollier and St. Trina questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, you must pass on St. Trina’s words to Thiollier after imbibing nectar multiple times. St. Trina’s messages reveal her tragic view that Miquella’s godhood would be a prison, urging that he must be stopped or even killed to grant him forgiveness. When you convey these words to Thiollier at the Stone Fissure Coffin area, it triggers a hostile invasion by him, and upon defeating him, you receive St. Trina’s Smile. This pivotal moment deepens the narrative, highlighting St. Trina’s sorrow and her desperate wish to prevent Miquella’s transformation into a god.

Head into the cave and talk to Thiollier again. Drink the nectar again. Die again.

This time, when you respawn and speak to him again, Thiollier will finally hear you out. Pass on St. Trina’s words to him.

Burn the Sealing Tree

Before burning the Sealing Tree in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, it is crucial to complete key NPC questlines, especially the St. Trina and Thiollier questline, as burning the tree acts as a point of no return and will lock you out of these quests. To progress in the DLC and unlock the final dungeon Enir-Ilim, you must defeat major bosses like Messmer the Impaler and Romina, Saint of the Bud, then use Messmer’s Kindling to ignite the Sealing Tree. However, players are advised to exhaust all desired side quests beforehand because once the tree is burned, NPC questlines end, though exploration and boss fights remain possible. After burning the tree, you can summon Thiollier as an ally for the final boss fight, which can significantly ease the challenge.

St. Trina and Thiollier’s questline won’t come to an end for a while. You’ll have to finish Shadow Keep, cross the Rauh Ruins, defeat Romina, Saint of the Bud at the Church of the Bud, and then finally use Messmer’s Kindling to burn the Sealing Tree.

That will open the Tower of Shadow and teleport you to the Enir-Ilim: Outer Wall Site of Grace in Enir-Ilim. Before you explore too far, though, it’s time to check in on Thiollier one last time.

Talk to Thiollier

To progress Thiollier’s questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, start by talking to Thiollier at the Pillar Path Cross Site of Grace in Gravesite Plain, where he acts as a vendor and introduces his connection to St. Trina. Engage fully in his dialogue to unlock the quest and later, after advancing through key story areas like Shadow Keep and defeating bosses, return to talk to Thiollier again. At this point, you will need to imbibe St. Trina’s nectar multiple times to hear her voice and relay her words to Thiollier, which triggers further developments including a confrontation with Thiollier himself. This interaction is crucial as it advances the intertwined questline of Thiollier and St. Trina, leading toward the quest’s conclusion in the Shadow Realm.

Head back to the Garden of Deep Purple and talk to Thiollier – he won’t have much to say. Imbibe St. Trina’s nectar again, hear what she has to say now, and then return to Thiollier.

He probably still won’t have anything to say, but this will ensure you can summon him for.

Summon Thiollier to fight Leda and her allies

To summon Thiollier to fight Needle Knight Leda and her allies in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, you must first progress through the Enir-Ilim area after burning the Sealing Tree, which unlocks the dungeon. Thiollier’s summon sign appears just before the boss fight against Leda, allowing you to call him for assistance alongside other possible allies like Sir Ansbach if you have completed their questlines. Summoning Thiollier can significantly aid you in this challenging battle against Leda, Redmane Freyja, Dryleaf Dane, and possibly Sir Moore. After defeating Leda, you can also summon Thiollier again for the final boss fight of the DLC, making his support invaluable throughout the climax of the questline.

After you make it all the way through all of Enir-Ilim, you’ll come to a large arena where you face off against Needle Knight Leda and her allies – Redmane Freyja, Dryleaf Dane, and, possibly, Sir Moore.

You can summon Thiollier and, if you’ve followed his questline, Sir Ansbach to aid you in the fight.

Thiollier’s fight isn’t over yet.

Summon Thiollier for the final boss fight

To summon Thiollier for the final boss fight in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, you must first complete his questline, which involves interacting with him and St. Trina, imbibing nectar, and progressing through the Enir-Ilim area. After burning the Sealing Tree-a point of no return-you can summon Thiollier by interacting with his golden summoning sign before the final boss arena. Thiollier will assist you during the fight, making it easier, and after defeating the boss, you can loot his full equipment set. If you also completed Sir Ansbach’s questline, you can summon him alongside Thiollier for additional support.

After defeating Leda, you’ll make your way up to the Divine Gate for the game’s final boss fight. Before you step through the fog wall, there will (might) be summon signs for your allies, Ansbach and Thiollier.

No matter how the fight goes down, rest at the new Gate of Divinity Site of Grace. After, you’ll find Thiollier dead nearby where you can pick up Thiollier’s Hidden Needle and Thiollier’s set of armor. (Ansbach may be here as well.)

Receive St. Trina’s Blossom

After completing the St. Trina questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, players can receive St. Trina’s Blossom, a unique helm found at the Garden of Deep Purple on St. Trina’s fallen body. This helm is not part of any armor set but offers a slight boost to maximum FP, enhancing magical capabilities. To obtain it, players must progress through the quest by drinking St. Trina’s nectar multiple times, interacting with both St. Trina and Thiollier, and ultimately defeating the final boss of the DLC. Returning to St. Trina’s resting place after these steps allows players to pick up the helm, which also changes the player’s appearance when equipped.

With the fight done, head back to the Garden of the Purple Deep one last time. You’ll find St. Trina dead as well, but she left you the St. Trina’s Blossom (quite fetching) headgear.

What secrets does the Thiollier and St. Trina questline reveal in Shadow of the Erdtree

The Thiollier and St. Trina questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree reveals a complex and tragic secret centered on the fate of Miquella, a god trapped by his own divinity. Through repeated interactions involving drinking St. Trina’s nectar, the player learns that Miquella’s godhood is a prison, and St. Trina’s message urges the player to kill Miquella to grant him forgiveness and release him from his torment. Thiollier, a devoted follower of St. Trina and master of poison, initially distrusts the player but eventually comes to believe the message after a series of confrontations and dialogue exchanges. Completing the questline not only uncovers this dark truth but also enables the player to summon Thiollier as an ally in the final boss fight, adding a strategic advantage. The quest culminates after burning the Sealing Tree and defeating key bosses in the DLC, emphasizing themes of sacrifice, loyalty, and the burdens of divinity.

What does drinking St. Trina’s nectar multiple times reveal about her true intentions

Drinking St. Trina’s nectar multiple times reveals her true intentions as a tragic plea to stop Miquella from becoming a god, which would imprison him in a cursed divinity. After imbibing the nectar four times, St. Trina’s voice urges, “Make Miquella stop. Don’t turn the poor thing into a god.” Increasing to five and six times, her messages deepen: “Godhood would be Miquella’s prison. A caged divinity. is beyond saving,” and finally, “You must kill Miquella. Grant him forgiveness.” This sequence exposes that St. Trina desires Miquella’s release from his divine torment through death, rather than eternal godhood.

The nectar itself induces a death-like sleep, symbolizing oblivion or escape, and Thiollier’s obsession with it reflects addiction-like devotion to St. Trina’s cause. His reactions to the player passing on St. Trina’s message range from denial to hostility, underscoring the painful conflict behind her intentions. Thus, the nectar is not merely a poison but a medium for revealing a sorrowful truth and a desperate hope for mercy.
