Changing your character’s stats or appearance in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty isn’t just a cosmetic choice-it can completely shift your combat style and strategy. Here’s how to respec your build and refresh your look on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC without losing progress.
Defeat Wo Long’s Aoye boss in Part 3
Aoye is a challenging boss in Part 3, known for its long-range water spells and sweeping tentacle attacks. Keep your distance while observing its patterns, then strike after it finishes a big move. Fire-based attacks deal extra damage, so weapons or spells with fire attributes are useful. Dodge toward its body to avoid tentacle sweeps, and punish the openings that follow its charge or quake abilities. Patience and timing are key-wait for the right moments to attack instead of trading blows.
The first Main Battlefield in Part 3 is In Search of the Immortal Wizard. At the end of that quest, you’ll have to tackle the Aoye boss fight, and it’s a brutal one.

Once you’re victorious, though, you’ll meet the titular Immortal Wizard, Zuo Ci. He’ll unlock a new Divine Beast for you, and then he he heads to the Hidden Village.
Visit Zuo Ci in Wo Long’s Hidden Village
Zuo Ci can be found in the Hidden Village after you progress through the early chapters of the game. Speak with him to access the options for reassigning your Virtue points and changing your character’s appearance. He stands in his usual spot near other key NPCs, making it easy to visit whenever you need to adjust your build or refresh your look without starting a new save.
As soon as you arrive in the Hidden Village, you’ll be facing the Battle Flag. Zuo Ci is in the building directly behind you. (We spent far too long scouring the village before we even thought to look in there.)
When you speak with Zuo Ci, you’ll have several options:
- Reset Parameters – this is where you’ll redistribute your Virtue Points.
- Accolade Reward – cash in Accolades (which you get from avenging other players’ deaths) for items
- Character Creation – change your appearance
- Interact – Speak with Zuo Ci.
Resetting your Virtue Points in Wo Long
Resetting your Virtue Points in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty allows you to redistribute your character’s stats and try different builds. To do this, visit the Hidden Village and speak to Zuo Ci once you’ve progressed far enough in the story. He offers the option to respec your Virtue Points by spending a special resource called a “Coppers.” This gives you the freedom to adjust your playstyle, experiment with different weapon types, or focus on new elemental affinities without starting a new game.

When you select Reset Parameters from Zuo Ci’s menu, you’ll see a screen similar to the menu for leveling up at a Battle Flag. This is what allows you to respec your character.
As you flip between the Five Phases Virtues, you can hit down to remove Virtue Points from each Phase, and then add those points elsewhere. You can even drop every Phase back to rank one and completely start over.
To lock in your decisions, hit A/cross – there’s actually no prompt on the screen for you to do this.
And there’s no cost no matter how many times you do it.
Changing your appearance
You can change your character’s appearance in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty by visiting Zuo Ci at the Hidden Village once he becomes available. Speak to him and select the “Character Creation” option to access the customization menu, where you can adjust your character’s face, hair, body type, and other visual details without affecting your stats or progress. This feature lets you refresh your character’s look at any time, so you can experiment with different styles as you progress through the game.

Picking Character Creation from Zuo Ci’s menu takes you back to the Character Creation screen from the very beginning of the game. You tweak physical details, change your pronouns, or start completely from scratch.
Best stat builds for different weapon types in Wo Long
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty features five Virtues (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) that define stat builds, with weapons scaling best to specific ones for optimal damage and playstyle.
Wood Builds (Lightning/Tank Focus)
Prioritize Wood for max health and stamina, ideal for heavy weapons like Glaives, Hammers, or Great Clubs that benefit from sustained pressure. Allocate 50+ Wood early, 15-20 Earth for weight management, and minimal Fire (8) for spells like Amplify Damage. Pair with Lightning spells (e.g., Heaven’s Rage) and bows like Feathered Cavalry for ranged poke.
Fire Builds (Aggressive Melee)
Fire boosts attack power, suiting fast weapons like Dual Halberds, Straight Sabres, or Halberds for combos and Fire spells (Fiend Vanquisher, Engulfing Inferno). Aim for 40+ Fire, secondary Earth for defense, and Wood for HP. Use lighter armor to stay agile.
Earth Builds (Tank/Defense)
High Earth enables heavy armor and tanky weapons like Heavy Cavalry Spear, Glaives, or Hammers, with spells like Quakebound or Illusionary Shell. Target 35+ Earth (caps weight), 40 Wood for HP, and Water/Fire tertiary. Great for absorbing hits while countering.
Metal Builds (Spell/Poison Caster)
Metal reduces Spirit cost and amps poison/DoT, perfect for fast weapons like Curved Sabres, Dual Swords, or Cane (e.g., Night Owl Cane) with bows like Tiger Hunting. Go 50+ Metal, 8 Fire for Amplify Damage, and Wood secondary. Focus Venom Snare and Life Wither.
Water Builds (Stealth/Spirit Gain)
Water excels with quick weapons like Dual Swords (Chivalrous Swordsman) or Scimitars for Spirit buildup and stealth spells (Unseeable Form, Alacrity Haste). Prioritize 40+ Water, 11 Wood for buffs, 8 Fire minimum. Use light armor and bows for sniping.
