Finding Ganon’s Horse in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Location Guide

Guides

Few creatures in Tears of the Kingdom command attention like Ganon’s Horse – a massive, dark steed said to carry the shadow of the Demon King himself. Tracking it down won’t be easy, but those who manage to tame this legend will ride with unmatched presence across Hyrule.

How to prepare to catch Ganon’s Horse

Before approaching Ganon’s Horse, make sure you have plenty of stamina or stamina-boosting meals and elixirs prepared, as taming it requires a long struggle. Equip stealth-enhancing gear to avoid startling the horse, since it will flee if it notices you too soon. Save your game nearby in case the attempt fails, and clear any nearby enemies that might interrupt your approach. Having a few Endura Carrots or stamina-restoring foods on hand can make the process smoother once you begin the taming attempt.

Our advice for how to find and tame horses applies here – just like it does for Zelda’s golden horse or the Giant White Stallion. Increase your stealth with sneaky mealsand elixirs, and boost your stamina with energizing mealsandelixirs.

Make sure you bring along plenty of apples to feed it once you catch it as a way to speed up the bonding process.

Ganon’s Horse location

Ganon’s Horse can be found roaming in the Hyrule Ridge region, west of the Hyrule Field Stable. Head toward the Taobab Grassland or the area near the Owa Daim Shrine ruins, where this giant black horse with a fiery red mane often appears among a small group of normal horses. Approach slowly and use stealth to avoid startling it, then calm it after mounting. You’ll need high stamina or several stamina-boosting meals or elixirs to successfully tame and register it at a stable once captured.

Ganon’s Horse is located far to the southeast near Hateno Village. If you’ve done the Hateno Village Research Lab side adventure (which grants you the Travel Medallion and other pad upgrades) you’ll have the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab fast travel point unlocked – that’s the best starting point. If not, you’ll have to head to Zanmik Shrine near the village itself and make your way uphill.

Your ultimate goal is the little peninsula between Hateno and Deepback Bays to the southeast of Hateno Village. When you arrive, you should see Ganon’s Horse hanging out with a herd of wild horses.

How to catch and tame Ganon’s Giant Horse

Ganon’s Giant Horse can be found roaming the Taobab Grassland south of the Hyrule Field region. Approach it quietly by crouching and using stealth food or elixirs to keep from startling it. Once close enough, mount the horse quickly and prepare to soothe it using a large amount of stamina-multiple full wheels may be needed. After it calms down, ride it to a nearby stable to register it officially. This massive steed cannot use speed boosts but has unmatched strength and a striking appearance worthy of its name.

Ganon’s Giant Horse can be caught and tamed just like any other horse. Remove your clanky armor, weapons, shields, and bows. Better yet, equip the Stealth Armor set if you have it. If you don’t, sneaky meals and elixirs are great – meals cooked with things like silent shrooms, blue nightshade, or silent princesses and elixirs brewed with ingredients like sunset fireflies.

Crouch and sneak up on it to mount it. At that point, it’s time to mash the L button to soothe it. It’s going to take right around two full stamina rings. If you run low, energizing meals and elixirs will top you up.

Catching the Giant Horse is only the first step in claiming it. The next is getting it to a stable and, frustratingly, you’re a long way from the closest one.

From Hateno Beach, ride back to the northwest to meet the road. On the road back to Hateno Village, you’ll pass the Walnot Mountain Cave where you can find the Barbarian Leg Wraps. Follow the road through Hateno Village, and then keep north around Camphor Pond and the Cliffs of Quince. Shortly past there, you’ll pass through Fort Hateno – where you can complete the “Bring Peace to Necluda!” side adventure with Captain Hoz and the monster-control crew. Keep following the road around Ash Swamp to eventually arrive at Dueling Peaks Stable.

Pass Fort Hateno to the southwest early on-clear bokoblins quickly using your horse’s charge or dismount for combat-then veer right (northwest) over the small land bridge. Follow the path past the Fir River crossing and uphill into the village gate, avoiding off-road cliffs that slow horses.

Travel Tips

Maximize galloping stamina with Endura Carrots or food; soothe the horse (like Ganon’s) often with ZL to maintain control on turns. This road avoids deep water or steep climbs, making it ideal for giant horses despite their bulk.
