Dragons, deceit, and heartbeats: the fiercest appetites hidden in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.
The best monster hearts in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined
Monster hearts transform recruits into powerful allies in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, each granting unique skills and stats. Prioritize the Liquid Metal Slime heart for its high evasion and item drop boosts, perfect against tough bosses. The Great Dragon heart delivers massive attack power and fire resistance, ideal for frontline fighters. Snag the Metal King heart to maximize defense and HP regeneration during long grinds. Hunt these in post-game areas or specific monster medals for the strongest team builds.
In Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, you can equip a monster heart in either of the two accessory slots a character has. You can equip two monster hearts in these slots, but since they don’t provide attribute bonuses, running two hearts is not the best option. There are builds that’ll utilize two hearts (which we mention below), but you’ll mostly want to pair a heart with an accessory instead.
That said, monster hearts are game-changers in the early- and mid-game, with some offering extremely powerful abilities. Considering the hearts available within the first hours of the game and those that remain useful until the end, we selected the best ones.
Heaslime heart
This heart belongs to a creature that thrives on the eerie glow of dragonfire, its pulsating glow echoing the rhythm of its fierce, protective nature, and its rough, jagged edges hinting at the battles it has endured while guarding the secrets of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.
- Effect: 10 HP restored each turn
The Healslime heart has a simple effect: at the beginning of their turn, the character equipped with it recovers 10 HP. It might not seem like much, but auto-healing can be crucial for winning a fight.
You are often forced to choose between recovering your characters’ HP or attacking enemies, but every time you need to heal a character, enemies gain another turn to attack and possibly kill you. Having any means to heal a character without spending their turn is extremely powerful and that’s why Heaslime heart is fantastic.

You can find the Healslime heart in Grotta del Sigillo – Level 2 in L’Arca (Present).
Golem heart
The Golem Heart offers strong defensive bonuses and turns the wearer into a durable fighter who can withstand heavy attacks. Its abilities enhance both physical resilience and earthy magic, making it a dependable choice for players seeking longevity in battle. While not as fast as other monster hearts, its toughness provides a great balance for frontline characters facing tougher bosses.
- Effect: allows the bearer to survive a killing blow with a 1HP remaining.
Some party members are so important that their death during a fight can be lethal for the whole group, whether that’s because they deal the most damage or because they’re the only healer you have. Regardless of the reasons, you want to equip them with the Golem heart. With it, a character will survive any deadly hits, remaining with one HP. Since Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined has turn-based combat, this heart helps to maintain your party healthy. Keeping them alive for another turn can make all the difference. You will have time to heal them and protect them from any future attacks.

You find the Golem heart in The Tower – Floor 5 in the Ballymolloy region. You will visit this place during the main quest so it’s hard to miss.
Meowgician heart
The Meowgician Heart grants power rooted in charm and agility, turning its user into a nimble sorcerer with a feline twist. It boosts magical attack and speed, letting characters cast spells faster while dodging enemy strikes with catlike reflexes. Players often use it to create agile mages that balance offense and evasion, making it a popular choice for those who enjoy tricky, fast-paced combat styles.
- Effect: critical spell chance increased by 10%.
Spells are one of the strongest sources of damage you have in the game. Leave Maribel casting Frizz or Boom at enemies and she will win most fights for you. Given the potential of magic in the game, the Meowgician heart is an excellent option for casters, like the Mage and Sage vocations. While the former vocation’s special ability allows a character to land only critical hits, this heart will help them maintain the highest possible damage output for longer periods of time.

To obtain the Meowgician heart, you must defeat the Vicious Meowgician. You can find them on the northeast side of the L’Arca region (Part).
Clawcerer heart
The Clawcerer heart pounds with the hunger of a predator, its jagged edges gleaming as it surveys the battlefield. It fuses raw, crustacean resilience with a savage, claw-driven rhythm, delivering brutal blows that force foes to rethink their approach. A prize for daring hunters, it embodies the fierce, unyielding spirit of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined’s most memorable monsters.
- Effect: makes the bearer’s critical spells 50% more effective.
Another great heart of the Mage and other spellcasting vocations, the Clawcerer heart makes every critical hit stronger. While it can have other applications, we mainly focused on using it to increase Maribel’s damage output. Additionally, although equipping two hearts is not ideal, you can combine the Clawcerer heart with the Meowgician heart to make the perfect buff setup for casters.

The Clawcerer heart is inside a chest in the Likeness of the Great Evil – Level 2 in the Al-Balad region (Past).
Cactiball heart
Cactiball Heart: A sturdy, spiky find with surprising reservoir power, it blends resilience with a touch of whimsy in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.
- Effect: 100% chance of reflecting physical damage taken.
Among the vocations available in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, making the ones focused on defending the party, like Paladin, capable of also dealing solid damage is a challenge. Most of their skills are designed to support the rest of the party, leaving little room for direct offense – which is why the Cactiball heart is one of the best choices for tank-like classes. For example, Paladin’s Forbearance makes the character intercept all incoming attacks, meaning every enemy will target them. With the Cactiball heart, the Paladin can cause damage to enemies whenever they hit them with physical damage while still protecting the rest of the party. It’s the perfect match!
Where to farm monster hearts efficiently in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined
You can think about efficient monster heart farming in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined in two layers: how the system works in general, and which spots / methods give the best return on your time.
Core farming principles
-
Monster hearts mainly come from:
-
Fixed treasure chests in dungeons and towns.
-
Drops from specific “menacing” (red aura) overworld monsters.
-
Drops from certain regular enemies that are known to carry hearts.
-
-
Drop rates on random enemies are low, so relying on standard encounters on story maps is usually inefficient compared to targeted methods like menacing monsters or special dungeons.
Best general farming method (tablet-style dungeons)
In both the original and Reimagined versions, the most efficient way to farm multiple copies of hearts is to:
-
Recruit monsters that can drop the heart you want (via the monster meadow / park equivalent).
-
Use those monsters to generate a custom tablet-style dungeon populated almost entirely by that species.
-
Run that dungeon repeatedly; heart drop rates inside these custom dungeons are noticeably higher than in normal areas.
This method is particularly strong when:
-
You want several copies of one heart (e.g., an early evasion or regen heart for multiple party members).
-
You are late-game and can clear the tablet dungeon quickly with AoE skills.
Efficient overworld / dungeon targets
For early and mid-game, some specific hearts are easier to “farm” by revisiting their sources:
-
Healslime Heart
-
How: Chest in Grotta del Sigillo, L’Arca Region (Present), Level 2.
-
Why: Strong early sustain (10 HP per turn) with zero RNG. Reaching and opening this chest is more efficient than hunting random heart drops at that stage.
-
-
Slime Heart
-
How: Chest in Rainbow Mines (Past), B5, northeastern corner.
-
Why: +10% evasion early on makes a big survivability difference and avoids grinding drops.
-
-
Golem Heart
-
How: Chest on Floor 5 of The Tower in the Ballymolloy Region (Past).
-
Why: Guaranteed access to one of the strongest defensive passives (survive lethal with 1 HP).
-
-
Cactiball Heart
-
How: Defeat the menacing monster Vicious Fandangow in the Al-Balad Region (Past), east of the Temple Palace.
-
Why: Reflects physical damage; farming this is done by repeatedly engaging this menacing spawn when it respawns, which is faster than hoping for random enemies to drop it.
-
These aren’t “infinite” farms, but they are the most time-efficient ways to secure some of the best hearts early without grinding.
Targeted menacing monster loops
Once you unlock regions with menacing (red aura) monsters that drop specific hearts:
-
Identify which heart you want (for example, Cactiball, Hammerhood, or Bodkin Archer).
-
Find its associated menacing monster’s spawn point in that re
What do Metal Slime Heart and Gold Golem Heart effects do
Metal Slime Heart and Gold Golem Heart are both “farming booster” accessories in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined:
-
Metal Slime Heart
-
Effect: Increases experience earned from battles by 20%.
-
Use: Best on characters currently leveling new vocations or lagging behind the party, since every fight gives them extra XP.
-
-
Gold Golem Heart
-
Effect: Increases gold earned from battles by 50%.
-
Use: Great for general questing or money-farming sessions to afford gear, alchemy ingredients, and other expenses more quickly.
-
Both are described as ideal “farming powerhouse” hearts and are included as DLC items in the Jam-Packed Swag Bag that comes with the Digital Deluxe Edition.
