Nioh 3 Yokai Teardrops Farming Guide Efficient Collection Methods Tips

Guides

Yokai Teardrops gleam like forbidden jewels in Nioh 3’s shadowed realms, fueling your deadliest upgrades. Snag them from spectral bosses and hidden caches-here’s the path.

How to get Yokai Teardrops in Nioh 3

Yokai Teardrops drop most reliably from kappas with golden, spiky shells, so focus on ambushing them near shrines where you can reset and respawn enemies quickly. You can also gain a few by soaking in hot springs or catching Scampusses hidden along mission paths, though each spring works only once. Bosses, optional missions, and late-game Crucible runs add extra chances, making side content and repeatable loops the best way to stockpile this currency.

There are a few different sources of Yokai Teardrops in Nioh 3, but the one you’re likely to get the most from are kappas. These are Nioh 3’s version of a loot goblin, essentially. Identifiable by their shiny, spiky, gold shells on their back, killing one will result in a loot explosion, which is highly likely to include a Yokai Teardrop or two. Most kappas will run away when you attack, but some – more common as you progress further through the game in different regions – will fight back.

You can also get Yokai Teardrops consistently by finding hot springs. Stand in the water and use the hot spring to undress and bathe for a few moments, which heals you and rewards a couple of Yokai Teardrops. The problem is, hot springs are a one-time use, so you can’t farm them on repeat.

Scampusses – the rather rotund cats that lead you on a wild goose chase when you try to pet them – can also reward you with Yokai Teardrops when you eventually catch up to them. There are quite a few of these throughout the Warring States period, so keep your eye out.

Finally, crucible wraiths, lesser crucibles, bosses, and myths can all also reward Yokai Teardrops, so make sure you’re completing as much optional content as possible to earn more.

How to use Yokai Teardrops in Nioh 3

Spend Yokai Teardrops at Sudama merchants marked by skull icons on the map, then switch to the exchange tab to trade them for Skill Texts, Craft Guides, memorandums that expand your skill capacity, rare consumables, and other high-value items that strengthen your build and make later missions more manageable.

Yokai Teardrops can be spent at any Sudama merchant (those are the purple fellows with the skull helmets). Head to the exchange tab to find everything you can swap Yokai Teardrops for, including memorandums, which are a nifty way of increasing your skill capacity. There are also some secret skills to learn, along with other rare and valuable items. If you’re wondering where to find a Sudama merchant, the most reliable and easiest-to-access one is in the Eternal Rift.

What can I buy with Yokai Teardrops at Sudama merchants

In Nioh 3, Yokai Teardrops are spent exclusively at Sudama merchants (the purple, skull-helmeted creatures) via their “Exchange” tab for premium items like skill expansions and rare recipes.

Key Purchases

  • Memorandums – Warrior, Samurai, and Ninja types increase your skill capacity for those weapon styles, essential for build progression.โ€‹โ€‹

  • Skill Texts – Unlock new abilities and secret skills across combat styles, often game-changers for advanced play.

  • Craft Guides – Rare equipment recipes for forges, enabling unique weapons, armor, and accessories.

Other Items

  • Soul Cores – Powerful yokai abilities, with Sudama variants dropping as bonuses or purchasable after initial trades (e.g., 2-3 Teardrops each).

  • Consumables and Materials – Herbal Remedies for healing, rare crafting mats, and items like Lantern Plants or Summon’s Candles.

Best Sudama Location

The permanent Sudama in the Eternal Rift hub offers the full stock reliably, restocking select items after drops like Soul Cores unlock them. Prioritize Memorandums and Skill Texts early, as they’re finite per merchant.โ€‹

Best farming spots for Yokai Teardrops in Nioh 3

Top Yokai Teardrop Farming Spots in Nioh 3

The most reliable farming spot is the Tokaido region’s Forest of Souls shrine. Fast travel there, head south past initial enemies to the pond in the center, and defeat the “Kapat Yokai” (a Kappa enemy)-it consistently drops 1-2 Yokai Teardrops. Rest at the shrine to respawn, creating a quick loop ideal for all game stages.โ€‹

Battle Scroll Missions offer steady drops too. Access them via shrines on chosen difficulties for repeatable runs that also yield XP and gear alongside Teardrops.โ€‹โ€‹

Early-game alternatives include chasing Scampuss (pet after minigame for drops), clearing enemy bases/optional objectives, and defeating formidable foes like Bloodedge Demons or Crucible enemies. Boost drops with luck-boosting Soul Cores from Kappa.
