Unlocking the elusive Mystic Spearhand vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a thrilling challenge that rewards players with a unique blend of spear-wielding melee combat and potent magick bolts. To claim this powerful class, you must track down the enigmatic Sigurd-an elusive warrior spotted after a fierce dragon attack in the village of Melve or later at his coastal hut in Harve Village. Engage him in conversation about his fighting style during the critical Readvent of Calamity quest, and you’ll gain access to one of the game’s flashiest and most dynamic vocations, capable of devastating foes with swift strikes and binding magicks.
Unfortunately, Mystic Spearhand is one of the mysterious hybrid vocations available only to you (and not your pawns) in Dragon’s Dogma 2. And it’s one of six locked vocations at the start. You’ll have to find a special NPC and unlock it before you change your vocation to the Mystic Spearhand.
In this Dragon’s Dogma 2 guide, we’ll walk you through how and when you can find Sigurd so you can unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation for yourself.
When can you unlock Mystic Spearhand in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
You can unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 shortly after completing Captain Brant’s main quest, Monster Culling. This triggers the Readvent of Calamity quest in the village of Melve, where you must help repel a dragon attack. After the battle, seek out Sigurd, a red-hooded warrior wielding a Duospear, who will be found near the cliff edges of Melve. Speaking with Sigurd and asking about his manner of fighting will unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation for you. If you miss this opportunity, Sigurd can later be found at his Coastal Hut in Harve Village or during the A New Godsway questline, allowing you to unlock the vocation at a later stage.

The Mystic Spearhand vocation is the first of the hybrid vocations that you can get in Dragon’s Dogma 2. If you know exactly where to look, you can get it within your first five hours with the game.
In order to set this unlock in motion, follow our guide on which of Captain Brant’s quests in Vernworth to do first. Once you’ve finished “Monster Culling” (which in turn helps you unlock the Warrior and Sorcerer vocations) and turn it in to Brant, you’ll be ready to unlock the Mystic Spearhand.
How to unlock Mystic Spearhand in Dragon’s Dogma 2
To unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you need to complete the quest “Readvent of Calamity,” which begins after you finish Captain Brant’s “Monster Culling” quest. Head to the village of Melve, where a dragon attacks, and help repel it alongside NPCs, including Sigurd, who wields a Duospear. After the fight, find Sigurd-usually near the eastern cliff of Melve-and talk to him about his fighting style to unlock the Mystic Spearhand. If you miss this chance, you can later find Sigurd at his Coastal Hut in Harve Village or near Dragonsbreath Tower in Batthal during subsequent quests. Once unlocked, visit any Vocation Guild to adopt the Mystic Spearhand class for 200 Dcp, receiving starter gear including the Initiate’s Blade and Friar’s Hood.

After you finish Brant’s first quest, travel back to Melve – the city that’s recovering from the dragon attack. I recommend you fast travel by ox cart from Vernworth, as it’s a pretty long and windy trip otherwise, and the cart can get you there in seconds.
Once you arrive, you’ll find that the village is under attack by yet another dragon – one with gross, pulsing sores all over its body. Rally to the town’s defense and fight the dragon off, climbing all over its body and stabbing the sores. Once it escapes, look for a man with a hood and a double-sided spear. His name is Sigurd (as shown in the screenshot above), and he’s here to hunt the very dragon you just drove off.
Speak to Sigurd and ask him about his unique fighting style. When you end the conversation, you’ll unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation.
Where to find Sigurd in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Sigurd can be found on the eastern side of Harve Village in his Coastal Hut overlooking the ocean. After defeating a dragon during the Readvent of Calamity quest in Melve, Sigurd will move to this location, where you can talk to him to unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation. If missed there, he may also appear at Dragonsbreath Tower in Batthal during the A New Godsway questline, where speaking with him will also grant access to the vocation.

But what if you missed the conversation with Sigurd after the battle? Or you just couldn’t find him in Melve? Once Harve Village is repopulated, following the “Scaly Invaders” quest, you can also find him there, in his home.
Anytime after the puss dragon attack on Melve, return to Harve Village. On the eastern side of town, in the last house overlooking the ocean – called the Coastal Hut on the map – you’ll find Sigurd. Invite yourself in and talk to him. Exhaust his dialogue options and you’ll automatically unlock Mystic Spearhand when you regain control of your character.
How can I find Sigurd early to unlock Mystic Spearhand in Dragon’s Dogma 2
To find Sigurd early and unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2, head to the village of Melve after completing Captain Brant’s main quest, Monster Culling. There, during the Readvent of Calamity quest, a dragon attacks near the well on the east end of Melve. After helping repel the dragon, locate Sigurd-distinguished by his red and black armor and duospear weapon-who will be near the eastern corner overlooking the river. Approach him and ask about his manner of fighting to unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation.
If you miss meeting Sigurd in Melve, you can find him later at his Coastal Hut in Harve Village, which becomes accessible after completing the A New Godsway questline or the Scaly Invaders side quest that rebuilds Harve Village. Speaking with him there and inquiring about his fighting style also unlocks the vocation.
What is the earliest point I can meet Sigurd for Mystic Spearhand
The earliest point you can meet Sigurd to unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is during the quest Readvent of Calamity in the village of Melve. This event occurs shortly after you complete Captain Brant’s main quest, Monster Culling. When you arrive in Melve, a dragon attacks near the well on the east end of the village. After helping repel the dragon, you can find Sigurd-wearing red and black armor and wielding duospears-near the eastern cliff overlooking the river. Speak to him there and ask about his fighting style to unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation.
Note that Sigurd will not remain in Melve indefinitely after the dragon fight, so it’s important to speak with him before leaving. If you miss this opportunity, you can later find him at his Coastal Hut in Harve Village or during the A New Godsway questline to unlock the vocation.
